2012-08-28 Thread Sanjeev Gupta
Hi,

This stopped working for me on the weekend, and restarted yesterday
(GMT+0800).

I run the devel release (quantal), updating multiple times a day.

Ctrl+alt+T doesn't invoke terminal anymore.

2012-08-28 Thread John Kim
The handy keyboard shortcut ctrl+alt+T shortcut no longer works on the
development build. Is this a regression, a bug, or just something
Canonical decided to take out? Thanks.

Fwd: Minutes from the Ubuntu Kernel Team meeting, 2012-08-28

2012-08-28 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi guys and gals!

Full details are below, but the kernel team seem happy with the Quantal
kernel. Beta-1 release client lands on Thursday, please do have a play and
double check to see if there are any gremlins before we hit feature freeze.

Oh, and as usual, the new kernel will not be in until Wednesdays re-spins
:) No pressure, then a whole 24 hours.

Thanks,

Phill.

Few odd things going on - still not quite right.

First - not sure whether this is typical - but I've never got anything
other than an install screen from booting. If this is normal then ...
good.

The 'waiting' circle - blinks like a mad thing - but appears to work.

Yes same happens to me.

Ubiquity bug - 727842 appears - but it's a private one - so you can't

Same bug.

I'll try again to install and see if I can report bugs.

well almost lol

I've never been sure of how you can actually report bug in a 'fail' when
you can't actually get anywhere to do it from.

excuse me if I ask this, but I really cannot understand.

If you already know that RAID support won't be ready for 12.10, why
don't you wait for the NEXT release to remove the alternate install
Cds?
I cannot understand why it suddenly become so urgent to remove them.
Can't you just wait 6 more months?

Even more, alternate install CD is the only way for some PC to

As Brendan said, I would encourage those of you who have concerns to
post them back to the ubuntu-devel list @ Steve et la for discussion. If
you remember back to UDS, the original idea as discussed was that no
functionality would be lost (aka, the live cd would get support for
everything the alternate cd could do). They've come close, but RAID
support didn't quite happen.

Note that If the alternates are dropped for ubuntu, going forward, if
you wish to install with RAID (or simply want to use an alternative
installer) you still have the option of using the netboot or mini iso.

ARM sd-install

2012-08-28 Thread Elfy
Image appears to be right size now - got it written to card. Created
partiions as I expected to.

Few odd things going on - still not quite right.

First - not sure whether this is typical - but I've never got anything
other than an install screen from booting. If this is normal then ... good.

The 'waiting' circle - blinks like a mad thing - but appears to work.

Ubiquity bug - 727842 appears - but it's a private one - so you can't +1
it :)

I did find also while in tty doing the unmount that I Was getting

omapdss HDMI error: failed to enable GPIO's

Install crashes after going through the unable to add things to the
private bug palaver.

Eventually it boots to a unity screen - 2 error windows

1 is a system error of some sort - can't actually select it to find what
error is, the other is Software Centre error - again can't select
anything here. Perhaps they are both in fact the same error.

Andrea, I don't think you've read the email on ubuntu-devel properly.
Steve has outlined reasons why he thinks it is okay to drop -alternate
and invited comments/objections from others. I would recommend you
follow up there with concerns, as it sounds like you have some.

so you have already decided? I did think there was a discussion before
proceding, but it looks like this change will already take its effect
starting from the next beta. Don't you think we should ask first the
community what they think about? It's non sense that in less than 24
hours you start the discussion on ubuntu-devel and you have already
decided for everyone. I can't get it, sorry.

Let me say that this is the worst idea ever proposed! I won't be able
to use Ubuntu on my desktop anymore because I'm using a RAID 1 setup
and I want to do a safe installation not using some workaround later
after installation and risking to loose my data.

Even more, alternate install CD is the only way for some PC to
complete the installation. You can't imagine how many time I had to
use alternate installer because ubiquity was freezing.

I really cannot understand how you can propose something that will
make Ubuntu worse than it is,
We're supposed to make Ubuntu BETTER not worse.

Best regards,
