Re: ibook g4

2012-10-03 Thread Greg Faith
If you want to be in experiment mode, try desktop 12.10 powerpc. Of course
I will try nearly anything (probably a left over view from the 60's) .. You
should be fine using the alternate 12.10 for a testing install.

I still have 12.04 on my G4 PowerBook and it is stable as..as..as debian ..
q:o)
I use about 115MB when it is idling.

Pushing the envelope .. Ubiquity Entire Drive Encrypted Install

2012-08-27 Thread Greg Faith
Okay, since we are might see the demise of the d-i this cycle.. I decided
to install the encrypted entire drive with ubiquity on a Lubuntu Desktop
amd64 12.10 current daily build 20120827.. Well even on my Lenovo with
nvidia-xorg issues I did complete the install and now I am thinking about
trying out the Ubuntu Desktop amd64 current daily build too.

Anyway it appears we will need some tests added to the qa-tracker for the
new ubiquity encrypted install. Guess I will log this one under normal
entire drive and note that it was encrypted install ??

qa Tracker ahead of Spins?

2012-08-23 Thread Greg Faith
So I decided to do a few live sessions on Ubuntu quantal amd64 just
now the qa-trackers show the current 20120823 but the downloads most
current is 20120822 ?? Anyway I had a few bugs and could not log the
test on qa-tracker strange days indeed or is this normal and I have
been in la-la land.

Re: Seeking some advice

2012-08-22 Thread Greg Faith
Thanks Phill.. I think the Xserver-Nvidia issue is the problem.
I was not having the problem on live sessions and iso installs
on say 20120817 or there about.

20120820
The first time I tried the USB everything went fine plymouth
finished and I was expecting the session to start normally.
But I got a graphics mess that I could do nothing with.

Second boot same USB I picked nomodeset as I had heard it
works on some graphic issues. I get the low graphic plymouth
and low resolution live session but installs worked well.

I will continue to check this from time to time... Maybe even drop
a bug against xorg/nvidia

Anyway Thanks again for asking around for me.. you r da-man

Seeking some advice

2012-08-19 Thread Greg Faith
Here is the situation.

I am using a live persistent USB of the Lubuntu quantal desktop amd64
20120819 to

run live and install test cases. Presently I using a Dell D620 and
Lenovo T61p to do full

hardware installs. The Dell D620 boots up live with no problem, but
the Lenovo with

nvidia graphics requires me to set F6 "nomodeset" to get the Live
session working.

Now with all that said a week ago I did not have to set the
"nomodeset" on the Lenovo

to get the live session working. It is not really a big problem for
me as I have worked

through the issue, but I can see where a new user with a Lenovo kit
with nvidia graphic

might have a difficult time.

I guess I am wondering should a bug be filed against the kernel as it
appear to be a

regression?

Nicholas et al,

Personally I think the testing last week was well timed with the
changes that are taking place in Ubiquity. We found some bugs that
will allow the devs a little more time to fix before the next cycle.
If those changes led you to call for the cadence testing you did well.

It appears a couple of critical ubiquity bugs will be cleared with
ubiquity - 2.11.21.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1034954

Maybe in tomorrow's spins. I will test a few tomorrow for sure.

As far as fun goes.. Yeah I have fun testing mostly on my new/refurb
Lenovo T61p.

My 2 & 1/2 cents,

coming soon. Be ready to test your laptop. Date: Fri, 23 Mar 2012

   To:

 Hi all!

Thanks to the superb work of Stéphane Graber, we now have the new
version of the Laptop tracker [1].

 There are two major difference:
 a) The integration with Ubuntu Single-Sign-On service; now you'll only
require a launchpad account in order to authenticate on the new
 tracker.
 b) The laptop profile; as you see here [2] there is a new "Hardware
Profile" field available when you add a test report, in which you
should put the URL of your laptop hardware profile. Have a look here
 [3] for more information.

Precise Beta 2 is due next week (Mar. 29th), so in order to be ready
for testing we recommend you to prepare your laptop hardware profile
 in advance.

Thank you very much for your help!

Noticed we had new isos for 20120224 so I zsync both desktops and alternate
isos 32bit & 64bit. Tried the desktop 386i 32bit first got the

Tried the desktop amd64bit got the exact same command prompt.

Not one to give up... I decided to try the alternate 386i iso. Sorry to
say it looked like it was going to install but upon boot I get the command
prompt again. I am going to try a few more things here.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] PPC LiveCD black screens, makes install unusable

2012-02-24 Thread Greg Faith
I just did a clean install of Ubuntu precise-desktop-amd64 it went well
with all visible screens. I also noted there was no change to the
current-daily zsync's for Lubuntu desktops amd64 & 386i .. so i would think
the black-grey screens are probably still there.

I will dd a flash drive and start an install if the first screen shows the
ugly black mess I will just abort and report.
