Kernel Bug Day Tuesday, February 1, 2011

2011-01-25 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Folks!

I'd like to announce that the next kernel bug day will be next
Tuesday. Our focus will be on triaging bugs in the new status and
getting them to the next state or requesting more information for them
to move further toward closure.

I look forward to seeing all of you there. I will be available in
all of the usual places: IRC[0], e-mail, etc. so feel free to chat with me
if you have questions. I'll be blogging this to the Kernel Team's voices
page[1] as well, so there may be updated information available there.

Thanks for all of your help!

~JFo

CORRECTION:Re: Reminder: Kernel Bug Day Today!

 Folks,
This is a gentle reminder that today is the Kernel Bug Day focusing
on bugs that have patches attached. Our goal is to close out all of the
old bugs and work through the bugs that are relevant from an SRU or
development standpoint. One major aspect of this effort will be to
correctly identify and remove the indicator on those bugs that do not
 have valid patches.

It seems I incorrectly identified this for bugs with patches (one of my
work items for today)

The correct focus should be the bugs tagged regression-update as
identified in my previous e-mail on the subject as well as the bug day
page on the wiki.

Apologies for any confusion. :-)

~JFo
I'll be available in #ubuntu-bugs and #ubuntu-kernel on the Freenode IRC
server if there are any questions. :-)

 Thanks!

Kernel Bug Day Tuesday, 7 December, 2010

2010-11-30 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Folks,
It's time for another Kernel Bug Day. We'll be focusing on the Bugs
tagged as regression-update [1]. There are currently 118 of these bugs
with the vast majority needing tobe tested against the current release
as well as the version under development. Any of you who would like to
get a head start on triagingthes bugs, please feel free to do so. As usual,
the resources needed to triage these bugs appropriately are located on the
ubuntu wiki: General Triaging [2], Kernel Specific triage topics [3] and
the Kernel Tagging page [4]. I'll be putting more information concerning
this bug day up on the wiki [5] so check it often. Please feel free to
contact me with any questions you may have.

Thanks!

Kernel Community Bug Day Tuesday 5 October 2010

2010-09-29 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Kernel Community Bug Day Tuesday 5 October 2010

Hi Folks!

The Kernel Team is pleased to announce our next bug day for Tuesday
the 5th of October.[0] We will be addressing bugs in the New state that
have been incorrectly set to New whether by well-meaning bug reporters
or individuals incorrectly reopening a previously expired bug to the new
status. In some cases the proper state is Triaged or confirmed. We will
be attempting to correct the status mismatches as well as properly
tagging bugs with the appropriate subsystems.[1]

All triagers are welcome to assist us on this day. Any questions as
to the state of a bug or any general questions can be directed to me in
the #ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. You may also find
useful information in the Kernel Wiki. [2]

Thanks!

Kernel Bug Day Tuesday 21 june 2010

2010-06-21 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Folks,
Apologies for the late reminder, but this week's Bug Day will be
tomorrow Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010.

We will be reviewing confirmed bugs and ensuring that they have all the
required information to be changed to Triaged. Also, if they are missing
information, they will be changed to Incomplete. The goal herre is to
get as many of these into the Triaged status as possible. Additionally,
I'd like for them to be tagged according to the tagging information
located on the wiki [1]. I have not yet migrated the old BugDay pages
over from the old wiki namespace [2], but when I do they will have a
home in the new wiki namespace [3].

Thanks for all your work thus far. Please don't hesitate to send me
feedback on the new wiki pages [4] as we work to move everything over
and work it into a new layout that should help you find information
easily.

Thanks!

Kernel Community Bug Day Thursday June 3rd, 2010

2010-06-02 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Folks!
I apologize for the late reminder, but I have planned a Bug Day for
Tomorrow to address bugs with patches attached. The effort will be
focussed on identifying those misidentified patches and removing the
patch designator while also asking for updates from original reporters
to determine if they continue to have issues in the current release.
Once we have completed this review, the team will be able to take a hard
look at the proposed patches and determine their candidacy in the
Maverick release as well as the possibility of SRU to Lucid. Thanks in
advance for your help and, as always, look me up in the #ubuntu-kernel
channel on FreeNode if you have questions.

Thanks!

which were not properly explored.  Had a thorough study been done the
development community would not have removed it due to the chaos for
  many users it would cause.

It wasn't exactly removed. The entire tool was replaced with a
frontend for xrandr because X (as you've noticed) has changed
significantly on the backend. Nobody has gotten around to adding that
functionality to the GUI for xrandr. Are you volunteering to write a
tool that lets you add modes through a GUI? If not, this'd be a
feature request on GNOME Control Center. This list is not a bug
 tracker.

I'd also like to point out that Modesetting now occurs in the kernel and
such a tool would have to take that into consideration as one would need
to work with the kernel to change mode. This change occured fairly
recently and, with the changes in DRM being backported into Lucid and
subsequently being different in Maverick, one would need to consider
these changes as well.

Kernel Bug Day - Tues 16 Feb, 2010

2010-02-16 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi All,

This is a friendly reminder that the next Kernel Bug Day will be held
Tues. 16 Feb, 2010 [1].

For those of you who are unfamiliar with what a Kernel Bug Day is, we
have a wiki page [2] that should help explain things in greater detail.

We'll be focusing on suspend/resume bugs with a 'New' status as well as
identifying duplicates where possible. Please join us Tuesday(tomorrow)
in the #ubuntu-kernel IRC channel on FreeNode as we tackle this list of
bugs together.

Thanks in advance,
~JFo
