Workaround field for bugs

2011-06-28 Thread Paolo Sammicheli

Hi everybody,

Unfortunately I missed the last IRC Meeting but I've seen on the log that Brian
Murray
informed you about his research (thanks again Brian!).

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, this is the relevant links:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugsKnownWorkAround
https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/54652

So, at moment around 10.000 bugs have information about workaround but the
point is that
the information is not properly exposed.

One example is the bug #753971 ( http://pad.lv/753971 )

Workarounds for this bug would be:

- Log in on Classic Mode since only Unity is affected
- Downgrade unity to 3.8.10-0ubuntu2
sudo apt-get install unity=3.8.10-0ubuntu2 unity-common=3.8.10-0ubuntu2

But the information is spread on the comments, although this is a well known
bug in
Natty in which many well known developers have ran into (and as far I
understand this
case isn't included in Brian research because there's no workaround keyword on
the
description).

So, my opinion is still that we need to improve the workaround exposition
improving
launchpad itself, but I don't know where to move the next step.

Suggestions?

Ciao!

Hi Lee,

take a look to the Open Week Schedule (1); today at 15.00 UTC we'll talk about
ISO
testing. I hope to see you in there.

Hello Grant!

Yes, IMHO we should do that.

Do you have an idea about how integrate these pages?

I'm all setup with profiles and accounts to be a tester but was wondering
 about a couple issues.

Hello Andrew, thanks for help us testing Ubuntu!

 1) If we're testing something is in active development like Natty, should we
install the Milestone release and then not do any updates before doing the
testing or should the system be full updated?

All Laptop tests are expected to be tested with milestone release. Actually
there's a
Natty fake build, the official Natty release will start next week with the
Beta1
release. Please note that on the Laptop tracker there's also the previous
stable
version. It's important to have laptop tested also with previous version so
that we can
compare tests and find regression.

 2) How important is it too remove all configuration from the home directory
before doing testing? I haven't looked through the instructions for every
test yet, but I'm wondering if it's possible that existing configuration
 could mess up the tests?

Normally it's important because some configuration can impact the results. If
you have
configuration on your home and you don't want to delete it, you could create a
new fresh
user.

Tests from Italian LoCo Team

2009-12-09 Thread Paolo Sammicheli
Hi everybody,

My name's Paolo, from Italian LoCo Team. During last UDS I attended to the
Increase community involvement in testing session and with my friend Alessio
Treglia (https://launchpad.net/~quadrispro) we decided to set up a testing
team inside our LoCo to make easier testing Ubuntu.

I just set up the Italian wiki page (1) where we're traslating English pages
to Italian. Also we'll provide mentoring for new member in reporting test and
bugs in a proper form.

During this initial phase I would like to know what you suggest us for first
test cases. I was wondering to suggest to new contributors Live CD testing
making it really easy and creating a first community around tests. What do you
think? Do this make sense for you or it should be better cover another kind of
tests?
