I see this issue on and off. It's a race condition in the boot process. It is
not a security issue because if you skip, you don't have access to the
encrypted area, so there's no information exposure.

For me, if I wait a few seconds it just goes away on it's own.

For Kubuntu, it looks like the KDE U/I for the lvm and encryption changes will
land before beta 2, so we'll need to make sure those test cases appear for
Kubuntu live images as well. We're also likely to drop the alternates during
beta 2 if we get a fully qualified set of desktop images, so we'd also need the
alternate only cases added to Kubuntu desktop as well.

This isn't supposed to happen, so please file a bug against launchpad with the
details.

For Kubuntu specifically, I think you're better off writing kubuntu-devel.

Mine would be that the world wide ubuntu-qa list is probably not the best venue
for local release party coordination.

Tested by people either on bare metal or in a VM. Same as any other ISO.

This should be discussed on ubuntu-devel too. It doesn't just affect QA and
triage.

Need new Kubuntu test case

2010-09-02 Thread Scott Kitterman
We are currently missing a test case for the "Guided" option for the Kubuntu
live images. This will probably be renamed, but that's what it's called for
now. It replaces the existing O/S install in a partition with a new one.

Post Beta 2 Testing of Kubuntu Live CD Installer

2010-04-09 Thread Scott Kitterman
There were a concerning number of issues associated with Live CD installs
during Kubuntu Beta 2 testing. We now have an updated build of the installer
[1] that will hopefully make a significant improvement. In order to pave the
way for a great Kubuntu 10.04 Release Candidate, we have produced and updated
set of images [2] for testing.

Please try to take some time this weekend and test these images. The Beta 2
test results are available on the Ubuntu QA ISO Tracker [3]. Please see if
these issues are fixed and if necessary file new bugs. The ISO tracker is
still
open for test results, so you can add your results to the tracker, but please
include a comment that you tested with kubuntu/daily-live/20100410/ and not
the Beta 2 image if you do. You can also reply to this mail.

If you have questions, mail the list or come visit us in #kubuntu-devel.

IIRC, that project ended in 2005 (it was a Canonical QA project FWIW).

I think in cases where users have not opted into be mailed (subscribed to the
test case) it would be inappropriate to email them. I would consider this
rude at best and is not something that I think would encourage long term
participation.

I took a look at this. One small point is that the way to start USB
creator is slightly different in Kubuntu. The wiki says:

Open System->Administration->Startup Disk Creator

In Kubuntu it's:

Open System->Startup Disk Creator

It would be nice to have that difference noted so Kubuntu testers won't be
confused.
