Problem using zsync

2012-08-19 Thread John Kim
Hello QA Team,

I want to use zsync. After browsing the web for some more information, I
understood that the iso file must be in the harddrive, namely the home
folder, for zsync to work. So I placed a recently downloaded quantal image
on my home folder and copy-pasted the command. But this came out as my
output.

john@thunderbolt:~$ zsync
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20120819/quantal-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync
cdimage.ubuntu.com: Connection timed out
failed on url
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20120819/quantal-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync
could not read control file from URL
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20120819/quantal-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync
john@thunderbolt:~$

It failed to read control file. What have I done wrong? How can I make
zsync work? Thanks.

Re: Problem using zsync

2012-08-19 Thread Phill Whiteside
As a very quick reply, they have been relocating the server.

I've asked on the IRC channel to check if it is all completed.

I'll go and try it out myself.

regards,

Phill.

The quantal-desktop-amd64.iso file must be in the directory you are
downloading to, which is not always /home/USER. It is possible that the
files on the server were broken at the time, also. 2012-08-18, the
servers were down for while, that would also give this error.

Hi Charlie,

I'm just on IRC with -release to see why the links from the iso tracker [1]
are not working, they should have been back up by now.

Regards,

Phill.

Re: Problem using zsync

2012-08-19 Thread Phill Whiteside
Hi John,

sunday evenings are not the best time to grab admin people. I'm in contact
with IRC area. As soon as I have news, I will ensure it is posted to this
list. Moving servers is not a fun task (I still bear the scars), please be
patient. Thanks for flagging it up, we rely on you good people to alert the
team to a problem. This seems like a glitch somewhere.

Regards,

Phill.

The ISO does not need to be present -- if it is not present (wherever
you you decided to be the download directory), zsync will create it new:

[cerdea-aws]cerdea@xango3:/opt/VM/iso/ubuntu$ ls
quantal-desktop-armhf+omap4.img
ls: cannot access quantal-desktop-armhf+omap4.img: No such file or directory
[cerdea-aws]cerdea@xango3:/opt/VM/iso/ubuntu$ zsync
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/quantal-desktop-armhf+omap4.img.zsync
 100.0% 188.4 kBps DONE

No relevent local data found - I will be downloading the whole file. If that's
not what you want, CTRL-C out. You should specify the local file is the old
version of the file to download with -i (you might have to decompress it with
gzip -d first). Or perhaps you just have no data that helps download the file
downloading from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/quantal-desktop-armhf+omap4.img:
 0.0% 8.7 kBps
 100.0% 5214.8 kBps DONE
