Re: Jenkins Failure - saucy-adt-python-qt4 5

2013-06-30 Thread Pierre Equoy
Weird, especially since it says there were no changes in the builds, and
since the build before and after are all correct...

Maybe some connection issues to another repo during the build? But then it
would have been notified in the console output...

Let us know if you find out!

The only source for changes to support Mir is the graphics system
 vendors, so
until they develop and release the code, there won't be any. Canonical
 has
announced they are discussing it with them and that they expect
 support, but
they can't actually promise it will be provided, only the vendors can
 do that.

Re: Mir instead of Xorg-server

2013-06-30 Thread Istimsak Abdulbasir
I hope it does.

Here is what I read on,
http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2013/06/27/mir-plans-in-13-10/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ubuntu-news+%28Ubuntu+News%29
,

"For 13.10 we plan on delivering Mir by default in Ubuntu Desktop with XMir
(an implementation of X running on Mir) and our current Unity 7 codebase
(the same Unity codebase that is currently in the Ubuntu 13.10 development
release).

This will be enabled for graphics hardware with Open Source drivers
supported by Mir (primarily Intel, Nouveau). For binary graphics drivers
(e.g. many NVidia and ATI cards) we will fallback to the normal X server
that we usually ship. This will mean that all users are well served in
Ubuntu 13.10."

This means, starting with 13.10, ubuntu will ship XMir for GPUs that can
use open source drivers supported by Mir. By any chance your GPU needs its
proprietary drivers, then you can rollback to X.

Re: Mir instead of Xorg-server

2013-06-30 Thread Istimsak Abdulbasir
I understand that. I was not referring to the proprietary drivers.
Hopefully, those will supported in the near future.

What I was referring to was X running on top of Mire called "XMir". As I
have understood, Both X and Mir will be available for 13.10. If Mir will
not work on some hardware, for whatever reason, then, the system will
rollback to xorg. Going forward, the X rollback will be replaced by XMir.

Please, tell me if I'm mistaken. I am here to learn.

Re: Mir instead of Xorg-server

2013-06-30 Thread Scott Kitterman
I think you're missing the point. The drivers in question are proprietary.
The only source for changes to support Mir is the graphics system vendors, so
until they develop and release the code, there won't be any. Canonical has
announced they are discussing it with them and that they expect support, but
they can't actually promise it will be provided, only the vendors can do that.

Re: Mir instead of Xorg-server

2013-06-30 Thread Istimsak Abdulbasir
It is a work in progress. There is a video displaying the workings of XMir
for compatibility for X applications. Once this is fully developed, X
rollback will be removed and XMir will take its place. Up to 14.04, Mir
should have optimal support for most GPUs.

Canonical have said they expect such support. I haven't seen any vendor

up in the air about when/if such support will be delivered.
