Hi Jackson,

Did you mean Sunday, August 10th? (UTC). That's the wiki page said.

By the way, I would like to come by. A great way to end summer break for

Hello Jackson et. al,

I don't think it is a good idea to have a Google+ Hangout all day long, we
don't have enough manpower to do a 24-hour marathon just on Testdrive
business (we aren't the Ubuntu Community Team, don't forget).

Good point. maybe if we have two, hour long segments where the hangout
is open. (maybe 1200 and 2000) I'd say the hackfest itself goes all
day (in irc) though, that will help with numbers.

G+ hangout's is a good idea. i'll make one that runs all day.
I'm working on a wiki page for the hackfest, i'll link it soon.

Which weekend in august does everyone want? I can get to any, with the
possible exception of the 24th and 25th.
Also, should it cross over friday night or saturday night?

Howard: If you could leave the ubuntuGNOME fix for someone at the
hackfest that would be great.

Re: [Lubuntu-qa] Testdrive hackfest.

2013-07-16 Thread Ho Wan Chan
Hello Ubuntu and Lubuntu QA Team,

It's great that Jackson will finally hold a Testdrive Hackfest for us. I
got my UbuntuKylin Testdrive code merged in just today, which is great.

As for time, it will be difficult for me to join Jackson, since when he is
morning I am sleeping, and when we are both on IRC everyone else will be
asleep!!! So probably I can't join it, sorry.

As for the date, just pick any weekend. I don't think we should actually
fit it to Ubuntu Touch's final freeze. It will attract less contributors
and I don't think we can fit Ubuntu Touch images ibto Testdrive anyway.

So Jackson, just pick any date you want on August.

Regards,
Howard Chan (smartboyhw)
(K)ubuntu member, Ubuntu QA Team member

P.S. Jackson, maybe you should do the hackfest using Google+ Hangouts.
Also, do you want me to do the Ubuntu GNOME flavour addition to Testdrive
when I come back or just do it yourself? Maybe you can do it yourself or
let new interested contributors join in, it's just copying;) I will
investigate on adding the Netboot ISO when I come back from London on 31st
July.

You can break down our work into contributing testcases, or
contributing results for those testcases :-) For learning about
contributing test results, testing a daily iso is a great first start
for learning how to submit test results and use the QATracker. Follow
the tutorial:

From there, look at dedicating a machine (real or virtual!) to testing
the development release. You can install and update your machine as
saucy is developed, and you can use it for testing as we track
packages throughout the cycle. We call this cadence testing and we're
currently inbetween weeks. Each testing week is announced and has a
different focus for an application for you to test.

RATIONALE:
Copy to / Move to -- options inadequate:

'Copy to' & 'Move to' have mainly 2 active options. For moving or
copying a file to other folders, the option is Copy & Paste. For
frequent use a short-cut is needed.

SOLUTION:
Customise and add to the list:

Provide an option for customising the list of destinations of 'Copy
to' & 'Move to'. Options should be given for selecting any folder in
'Home' & 'Desktop' and also for any selected sub-folder. Give the
option for customisation in a new background at the bottom of this
list or give an icon against this. An indication to show the change
as we see in Trash icon (at the left bottom corner) is good here also.

New G+ Community

2013-07-16 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
We now have a google+ community to go along with our g+ page. Please
interact and share cool ideas, get help, ask questions, etc. I'll be
continuing to post and share new things via social media -- not
everything posted on social media ends up on the mailing list, so don't
miss out by being disconnected!

Re: 13.10 daily image - Unity not launching after upgrade

2013-07-16 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
Vasudevan, yes, Mir is not yet default or active -- no worries your not
running it ;-)

The second is to re-iterate what phil said. Read about partial
upgrades.. Don't upgrade when you see them. Don't feel the need to
upgrade hour or everyday even as it's just going to cause heartache if
you upgrade a partial upgrade. Personally I upgrade something like 4-6
times a week, and I do so manually, making sure I don't get any funny
upgrades when I do.

Hi,

I'm not a ubuntu tester (I'm Lubuntu), so cannot answer about mir,
however I do suggest you look closely at what an update & upgrade is
planning to do as per the link on my earlier email [1]. If it is
*not* offering a partial upgrade then there may be a gremiln in the
works; if it *does* offer a partial upgrade, my advice is to refuse it
and try again some 12 hours later. However, at this early stage of
testing (in old language, we are still pre-alpha 2) things can get
out of sync for a few hours. If you are in doubt of what an upgrade is
proposing, ask on the #ubuntu-quality IRC channel.

Thank you for being a tester. Keep smiling and keep testing :)

Phill.

Thanks, Nicholas and Phil.
I am not using virtualbox. I have two test environments - one is
saucy-daily-guest image in kvm. Other is a bare metal installation

running alongside my 12.10 main desktop on a different partition.
I was getting these errors when trying to refresh daily build
using apt-get update and apt-get upgrade.
Yesterday I was able to download latest good zsync (i think it is
friday's image) from a location with faster connection, burned and
reinstalled on my test partition.
So I am good to continue my tests for now. It will be a problem if
I get the same error after the next apt-get upgrade.

Another question in this regard - does the display engine switch
over to mir automatically after an apt-get upgrade? Or is it a
user initiated task?
Is there any command to show which graphics engine is currently
running?
Thanks

Vasudevan, this is in a virtualbox image right? And your
using the 64-bit daily saucy image? Can you give us
anymore details about your setup that might help? If your
encountering issues, you can workaround them a couple ways.

1) Use a non-unity desktop enviroment. If something in
unity is broken, use lxde, xfce, or something else in the
interim.
2) Stay on an older image and don't upgrade until your bug
is fixed. Make sure you file it, but if your using a vm,
you should be able to clone it so you have a working
machine that you can use and a spare test version to check
and track progress on the bug preventing you from upgrading.

update & upgrade will indeed up date an installed

installation then use zsync [1].

Martin, I'm with these guys! I want my good not only ordered online but
delievered the same way. We can dream right? Let me provide you with
some more information about the team :-)

You can break down our work into contributing testcases, or contributing
results for those testcases :-) For learning about contributing test
results, testing a daily iso is a great first start for learning how to
submit test results and use the QATracker. Follow the tutorial:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/ISO/Walkthrough

From there, look at dedicating a machine (real or virtual!) to testing
the development release. You can install and update your machine as
saucy is developed, and you can use it for testing as we track packages
throughout the cycle. We call this cadence testing and we're currently
inbetween weeks. Each testing week is announced and has a different
focus for an application for you to test.

cooking food via broadband and emailing it directly to our stomachs.

JR, welcome to the team! Let me provide you with some links to
opportunities that exist.

For contributing testcases, since you have programming skills, check out
this page:
http://developer.ubuntu.com/resources/cookbook/mobile/how-to-write-autopilot-tests/.
Look interesting and cool? It's called autopilot and we could use more
testcases written! Let me know if this interests you!

Maybe doing this will help me learn the language faster.
