Activities page

This is a good wiki for the essential ubuntu QA activities.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Activities

It is possible to add hackfest and QA classroom logs on this page for
bookkeeping? These events are all part of QA activities.

Re: WhoWeAre Page - Suggestion

2013-07-19 Thread Istimsak Abdulbasir
Ali, were we using the http format to shorten web URLs? For all my
websites, I don't have many, I gave them all short aliases. They can also
be descriptive or very basic.

phillw did a good job posting the http format to shorted url's on the top
of the page table.

Hi Nicholas,

I do believe that Chads request falls squarely in the automated test
department Is there some kind soul who will set up the test case for
Chad? (Begs). This is really a case of an urgent automated test case to
check the incoming releases, as they can be security releases as well.

If you follow the instructions on the page and your name is not " I HAVE A

P.S. We do reserve the right to trim names if they break the table :D

It certainly went.

according to the logs it went 14th June, Nicholas found a web copy which I
have reinstated. But that is still a lot of work to do as it has no images,
links wiki formatting etc. Still, it is better than nothing.

Cadence Week 3 is here :-)

2013-07-19 Thread Nicholas Skaggs
Yay! Week 3 is here! Starting July 20th, we'll be testing images and
packages over the course of the next week.

So what is cadence testing? Have a look at this page to get more
information:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Cadence

In short, as a community we're testing different things about every ~2
weeks in ubuntu, and sharing results to flesh out bugs and problem
areas. The full schedule is here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Cadence/Saucy

So what's up for testing this week? The daily images, and the default
applications in ubuntu

Full details are here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Cadence/Saucy/Week3

If you need help submitting results, have a look at the ISO testing and
Cadence Week testing walkthroughs.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Cadence/Walkthrough
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/ISO/Walkthrough

Do note that you don't need anything special to participate in cadence
week testing! Both an installed version of the development branch of
ubuntu (aka saucy) in a VM or on a real box, or even a live session of
the lastest daily image will work.

Good luck! As always, feedback is very much appreciated. Thanks and
Happy Testing everyone,

Nicholas

Hi all. I'm happy to keep chromium building and testable in a public
place, but upstream releases come about every week, and between patch
integration, ARMHF architecture build failures, ARMHF build time, and
#security review and re-build, often the next release has arrived. People
are already screaming for updates days before QA could even begin to test.
I value assurance of quality, but I can't wait for long on human testing.

One thing I would like QA help with is automated tests. I've started some
autopkgtest smoketest and build-time unit testing, but I'd like to have
automated

- simple performance test
- UI translation test for languages that will be patched in from Launchpad
soon (?!)
- integration test with webapps patches and extension
- learning what tests I didn't know to add to this list

I would love some patches or guidance.

Hiya, QA team!

I may not be a tester, but I watch the ubuntu-quality list almost as
closely as I watch the bugsquad and bug control mailing lists.

I noticed this email chain here, so if you don't mind, I'd like to give a
suggestion as to a solution.

long links in the "Website" column. Now, I'm not a wiki expert, but it
looks like the whole long links, and especially the wordpress blog links,
are causing the column to flow past the edges of the default page format.

My suggestion would be to add those as [[http://webaddress.tld/|Link]]
replacing only the webaddress.tld part, which in turn makes "Link" display
instead of the web address, which may help to fix the
overflow-past-the-side issue.

In testing, I went in and used "Edit" / "Preview" to test this, and this
will solve the too-wide-a-column issue, although it will not show the full
link(s).

For the second idea, I think we have a reason to include such things: For

WhoWeAre Page - Suggestion

2013-07-19 Thread Ali Linx (amjjawad)
Hi everyone,

May I suggest something, please?

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/WhoWeAre

Can we adjust the table so that it won't stretch to the right?

If I may, I would suggest to remove "Website" Column. After all, all these
details should be on Testers' Wiki Page. I for one keep all my stuff on one
place for easier access and more organized.

Just a thought :)

By the way, GREAT WORK on QA Wiki Area ;)

Hi Michael,

Please, please... do take your time! even on the condensed version it is a
lot to take in. All the information is there, but as the guy who has put
the new area up... I, (and the QA team), would really appreciate your
feedback. It's very hard for us to write stuff up that newcomers can
understand. And, that is really important part QA ... make it easier to
understand.

just so as you don't think we sit around and do nothing about the

of weeks a fair few man hours have been spent on an edit of of the
 activities page[1].

It is now live, please pass comments to this email thread (reply to
all) and it can be tweaked. The major change is that the page that had
become frankentsiens monster as it grew ever larger (and totally against
wiki guidlines) has now a structure and all the areas it refers to are
 bite-size chunks of information.

Please check that the sub pages which are of your own interest are
fully up to date, as from now on... you will be responsible for keeping
them updated :D QA is now too big to have one person oversee the entire
wiki area and this is the start of making it so that people can volunteer
 to look after various pages.

Joking aside, there has been a lot of hours put into the new look.
I've even gone so far as to have a human read them and make some edits
[sharp intake of breath]. I hope you like the new area and look forward to
 your comments.

Hi, Phill.

Congratulations on the job done, the page looks great.

I just want to ask you something, in the section Who are you?
 people
are encouraged to register themselves and their testmachines.
Thing is, how can that be done? Both WhoWeAre
 and Hardware
 are non editable
since they are Immutable Pages.

have been spent on an edit of of the activities page[1].

It is now live, please pass comments to this email thread
(reply to all) and it can be tweaked. The major change is
that the page that had become frankentsiens monster as it
grew ever larger (and totally against wiki guidlines) has
now a structure and all the areas it refers to are
bite-size chunks of information.

Please check that the sub pages which are of your own
interest are fully up to date, as from now on... you will
be responsible for keeping them updated :D QA is now too
big to have one person oversee the entire wiki area and
this is the start of making it so that people can
volunteer to look after various pages.

Joking aside, there has been a lot of hours put into the
new look. I've even gone so far as to have a human read
them and make some edits [sharp intake of breath]. I hope
you like the new area and look forward to your comments.
