[Bug 721108] Re: Regression in 4.71-3ubuntu1.1 (lucid) when using macros

2011-02-18 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Unfortunately, this is the way upstream Exim has decided to fix the
security issue. Use of macros is no longer supported. Even the
WHITELIST_D_MACROS compile time option is just temporary and will be
removed in later versions.

Here is a extract from the new EDITME file that has some information:

# By contrast, you might be maintaining a system which relies upon the ability
# to override values with -D and assumes that these will be passed through to
# the delivery processes. As of Exim 4.73, this is no longer the case by
# default. Going forward, we strongly recommend that you use a shim Exim
# configuration file owned by root stored under TRUSTED_CONFIG_LIST.
# That shim can set macros before .include'ing your main configuration file.

In other words, for each macro that you used to be using, you should
create a new configuration file that includes the main configuration
file. These configuration files should be set as trusted by being
listed in /etc/exim4/trusted_configs.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

[Bug 692775] Re: linking two virtual machines does not work

2011-02-18 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Tried the same. OK if done on *ONE* system. I can ping every vm running
on this Server.

Now back to my setup.

First system:
ifconfig eth0.5 0.0.0.0 up
brctl addbr vm5
brctl addif vm5 eth0.5
ifconfig vm5 192.168.1.1/24 up

Second system:
ifconfig eth0.5 0.0.0.0 up
brctl addbr vm5
brctl addif vm5 eth0.5
ifconfig vm5 192.168.1.2/24 up

On first system:
ping 192.168.1.1
- OK. Works
ping 192.168.1.2
- no output. Only lost pings

On second system:
ping 192.168.1.2
- OK. Works.
ping 192.168.1.1
- no output. Only lost pings

Both systems are connected.

Adding VMs to the vm5-bridge on first system all guests can ping each other.
Adding VMs to the vm5-bridge on second system all guests can ping each other.

if a guest on first system tries to ping one on second system, the guest on
second system is unreachable.
If a guest on second system tries to ping one on first system, the guest on
first system is unreachable.

Are you sure you meant to mark this bug as a dupe? It's certainly a bug
in the samba source package and not in smbldap-tools (which doesn't ship
the schema file).

[Bug 692775] Re: linking two virtual machines does not work

2011-02-18 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi Thomas,

exactly how are the systems connected? How are eth0 and eth0.5
configured?

If you simply

First system:
ifconfig eth0.5 192.168.1.1/24 up

Second system:
ifconfig eth0.5 192.168.1.1/24 up

are they able to ping each other?

How about if you use eth0 rather than eth0.5 in the bridge?

[Bug 714335] Re: KVM SMP Linux Guests Hang

2011-02-18 Thread Brian Knoll
Hi Serge,

Yes, that PPA kernel does indeed fix it. I used the PPA kernel in the
guest and it made everything work perfectly. So I'm thinking one of
those fixes you mentioned solves the problem.

Note that I am still using the standard Lucid kernel in the host, but I
don't think that's relevant since it seems like the issue is in the
guest-mode kernel, not the host. In any case, I think it would be very
helpful to have those fixes backported to the Lucid kernel, so those
running the LTS in their guests can have stable SMP configurations.

Thanks for all of your help!

[Bug 716026] Re: regression: ssh-agent running but not working

2011-02-18 Thread andrew
I did some further testing based on your input.

my ~/.ssh/config has the following lines:
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/my.key
ForwardAgent yes

Before the update to natty, it seemed like the agent would see that the
passphrase for my.key was not cached and would pop up the pinentry
program to obtain the passphrase. This seems to be where the breakage
occurs.

On a fresh login, ssh-add -l shows no keys. Executing ssh user@box_a
contacts the agent (I am watching the agent with strace -p) but since
the agent knows nothing about my.key, it does not bother running
pinentry.

SSH knows about the key (from ~/.ssh/config) and since the agent failed,
it asks me for the passphrase. I enter it and all is good. However,
since the agent knows nothing, the agent forwarding doesn't do any good.

I can test this theory by manually running ssh-add ~/.ssh/my.key and
entering the passphrase. Now ssh-add -l shows the key and ssh
user@box_a works flawlessly. Further, once logged in to box_a I can
ssh user@box_b and the forwarding works, since I can log in (box_b
requires the key, and box_a does not have the key).

Did something in the configuration requirements change for ssh-agent to
obtain keys that ssh knows about from its config files? I did not have
to run ssh-add ever before.

Note: I have also just tested the following:
ssh-add -D (erase all keys from the agent)
ssh-add -c ~/.ssh/my.key
ssh user@box_a

In this instance, ksshaskpass pops up... so the agent appears to be able
to execute programs similar to pinentry.

I've verified the path for pinentry again, and verified that it does
indeed execute and pop up a window by manually running it.

$ ls -l /usr/bin/pinentry
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 2010-02-14 16:15 /usr/bin/pinentry -
/etc/alternatives/pinentry
$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/pinentry

2011-02-18 Thread Scott Kitterman
This isn't a bug in the package, but a consequence of you having
manually created the clamav user. What you need to do is remove
(deluser) the clamav user you manually created and then retry the
installation. I'm turning this into a support request so you can get
help with how to do that.

[Bug 721514] [NEW] Samba should be more selective when importing accounts

2011-02-18 Thread Etienne Goyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

The Samba postinst maintainer script systematically import all account
with uid = 1000. This is so that user account and such have
corresponding Samba account. In most case, this is a good thing and
make. However, where the machine has been configured with a network
directory as the source of user account (ie, using nss_ldap), this may
not be desirable. Especially if the network directory host a large
number of user accounts, this could be very wasteful.

The behavior of the account import is preseedable with the
samba/generate_smbpasswd debconf template. This is good, but it's an
either/or proposition.

Perhaps it would be better if we where only importing local users (those
listed in /etc/passwd)? We could do that by specifying the compat
service to getent (-s compat) in the samba.postinst maintainer script,
such as:

if [ ${GENERATE_SMBPASSWD} = true -a ! -e /var/lib/samba/passdb.tdb -a ! -e
/etc/samba/smbpasswd ]; then
getent -s compat passwd | mksmbpasswd /etc/samba/smbpasswd
pdbedit -i smbpasswd -e tdbsam -d 0
rm /etc/samba/smbpasswd
fi

I guess the implication owuld need to be considered, and the first thing is to
decide whether there is a good reason to import the non-local account in Samba.

[Bug 720440] Re: /etc/hosts is updated based on /etc/cloud/templates/hosts.tmpl

2011-02-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package cloud-init - 0.6.1-0ubuntu1

---
cloud-init (0.6.1-0ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * fix for puppet configuration options (LP: #709946) [Ryan Lane]
  * fix pickling of DataSource, which broke seeding.
  * turn resize_rootfs default to True
  * avoid mounts in DataSourceOVF if 'read' on device fails
'mount /dev/sr0' for an empty virtual cdrom device was taking 18 seconds
  * add 'manual_cache_clean' option to select manual cleaning of
the /var/lib/cloud/instance/ link, for a data source that might
not be present on every boot
  * make DataSourceEc2 retries and timeout configurable
  * add 'bootcmd' like 'runcmd' to cloud-config syntax for running things early
  * move from '#opt_include' in config file format to conf_d.
now local config files should live in /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/
  * move /etc/cloud/distro.cfg to /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/90_dpkg.cfg
  * allow /etc/hosts to be written from hosts.tmpl. which allows
getting local-hostname into /etc/hosts (LP: #720440)
  * better handle startup if there is no eth0 (LP: #714807)
  * update rather than append in puppet config [Marc Cluet]
  * add cloud-config for mcollective [Marc Cluet]

Re: JeOS and ISCSI ISO testcases moved to optional

Srly, I was pointing this it out because lots of people mistakenly think
you need a big $$$ NAS/SAN to test iSCSI.  There are software solution
for that, and they work.  Just saying.

Right. Perhaps what we need, then, is to snapshot a working iSCSI vm
disk image that can be imported into virsh/virt-manager, and upload
that to the iso.qa.ubuntu.com site, along side the instructions. That
way, the iSCSI target itself is static, and it's just thing we're
testing (the iSCSI initiator) that's varying.

Sorry Robbie! You guys are always so helpful, and I give nothing back.
  Shame on me, really! :)

Heh, well, if you could get just such a minimal iSCSI target image,
we'll store it somewhere and use it for the testing that you're asking
us to do ;-)

Cheers,

actual IP not logged when requests come forwarded by a reverse proxy

2011-02-18 Thread Tapas Mishra
My apache2.conf
http://pastebin.com/uTVKt1wD
and apacche vhost file
http://pastebin.com/QDd3LDZ4
the apche2.conf and vhost file I gave the link are the machine on LAN
where site is actually hosted.
When some one from internet access the site then I expect a log of IP in
access.log
instead of which I see the IP of machine which is working as Reverse
Proxy server for all such requests.
What mistake did I do above.

Tapas,

http://stderr.net/apache/rpaf/

you want to enable this module and configure it correctly.

Installing Maverick on XenServer?

2011-02-18 Thread Pandu Poluan
Hello!

I noticed that XenServer 5.6 fp 1 supports Ubuntu Lucid. It seems to
be able to pull the Xen-optimized kernel from
/ubuntu/dists/maverick/main/installer-i386/current/images/cdrom/xen/
and use that image to boot.

However, if I use the Maverick Minimal CD, apparently it will not pull
the same image.

Can anyone point me to a HOWTO to install Ubuntu Maverick on XenServer
5.6 fp 1 the same way as it currently installs Ubuntu Lucid?

Thank you for your help.

Rgds,
