Re: [Bug 604283] Re: network servers do not listen on 127.0.1.1
On 11/08/11 19:06, Clint Byrum wrote: Marking importance in bind as medium. I can see a definite need for the FQDN of the machine to always be addressable for services, and bind would need to work the same as other services that listen on 0.0.0.0. There are workarounds, and this is only some use cases, so Medium seems appropriate. ** Changed in: bind9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium The Bind Manual from the latest ubuntu bind9-doc package says: If no listen-on is specified, the server will listen on port 53 on all IPv4 interfaces. This statement is ambiguous. However, my /etc/bind/named.conf.options DID NOT contain a listen-on clause and yet it does not listen on 0.0.0.0:53 (or :::53). It listens only on the explicit addresses of localhost (127.0.0.1) and my ethernet interface. The Bind Manual goes on to say: When { any; } is specified as the address_match_list for the listen-on-v6 option, the server does not bind a separate socket to each IPv6 interface address as it does for IPv4 This implies that the IPv4 listen addresses will be selected after enumerating the available interfaces. If true, then bind9 will not discover the 127.0.1.1 address assigned in the default hosts file because it isn't defined as an interface. I tried a bypass of explicitly coding within the options section: listen-on { 127.0.0.1; 127.0.1.1; 10.1.252.11; }; After I restarted bind9, I was disappointed to see only: tcp 0 0 10.1.252.11:53 0.0.0.0:*LISTEN 15451/named tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:53 0.0.0.0:*LISTEN 15451/named udp 0 0 10.1.252.11:53 0.0.0.0:*15451/named udp 0 0 127.0.0.1:53 0.0.0.0:*15451/named ... it still isn't listening on 127.0.1.1! p.s. cvsd doesn't listen on 0.0.0.0:2401, but it probably doesn't matter. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bind9 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604283 Title: network servers do not listen on 127.0.1.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/604283/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 830154] Re: Login timed out after 60 seconds after winbind install
** Description changed: I can not log into my Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS. After I inputed my user and password the message 'Login timed out after 60 seconds' appears. I noticed that this problem has appeared after winbind install. I've just install winbind: sudo apt-get install winbind and then reboot. Local login via tty does not work. - Only after 180 seconds I try login again and it's succeeded. + Only after 180 seconds I try to login again and it's succeeded. I had tried to reconfigure pam: sudo pam-auth-update in order to disable login via winbind, but it didn't help. Also I had tried to change boot order of winbind in crontab. It may be loaded before network starts. But it didn't help too. [Bug 750371] Re: squid causing /var to stay busy during shutdown
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 688541 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/688541 On ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS the problem is on the start on line in /etc/init/squid.conf file. It is different from the one in ubuntu 11.04. You should have something like: start on runlevel [2345] or net-device-up IFACE!=lo stop on runlevel[!2345] This fixed the problem for me. Now squid shut downs properly. The /etc/init.d/sendsig works just fine and it has nothing to do with this bug since it ignores processes managed by upstart like squid. PD: I found a similar problems in /etc/init/sshd.conf causing problems when switching runlevels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to squid in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/750371 Title: squid causing /var to stay busy during shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/squid/+bug/750371/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Re: ServerGuide reviewers needed
On 08/17/2011 06:33 AM, Ahmed Kamal wrote: Hi folks, As you know Adam the maintainer of the serverguide had stepped down. I'm trying to assemble a team of server oriented folks who are interested in reviewing the Ubuntu server guide (making sure all the info inside is fresh and accurate), this is only part of it, the team would also work on creating a fresh chapter on UbuntuCloud (openstack+orchestra+Ensemble). If you are interested, please raise your hand Cheers Hi Ahmed, Is there a general idea of what level we ought to be aiming the documentation at? There is a bunch of things that could be added to the MySQL section, for example, without turning it into a full on MySQL Guide (unless that's what we're aiming at?). Currently it's focussed along the lines of 'this is how you install it, start it and a couple of minor tweaks'. It could be filled out with brief discussion of the different storage engines provided by the packages, their strengths and weaknesses etc. The approach seems to vary between different sections of the documentation, and even within the same chapter. It would seem in general that the database section is woefully lacking in detail compared to other chapters.
