Re: Hardware Raid Controller Card.
I'm using LSI raid controllers ( supermicro branded sometimes ) and they perform really well. Anyway I used it to set up RAID1 and now I want to monitor it. I've installed raidutils and configured it to start at boot time, taken from this site As discussed in more detail on the raidutils upstream web site: http://i2o.shadowconnect.com/index.php , the package is actually specific to a fairly small group of RAID cards using the I2O subsystem. (In fact, in more recent versions of Debian, the package was renamed to dpt-i2o-raidutils to emphasize this point: http://packages.debian.org/sid/dpt-i2o-raidutils http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/dpt-i2o-raidutils ) As I understand it, the I2O cards are getting pretty rare now, so your first step is to make sure that the card in your machine is actually one of those; if not, you'll need to look for a different software package on the Linux side to manage it (If you think your card should be supported by the I2O driver, the next step will be to look for messages mentioning i2o or dpt [do a case-insenstive search] in your /var/log/dmesg file.) fwiw, I had multiple data corruptions with 3ware 9550 card as well as bad performance, I would surely not buy from them again. I've also had good luck with the Areca controllers. Just be aware that the arcmsr module that ships with Lucid and Maverick does not support the newest 1880 series controllers. If you do choose to go that way I have a pretty detailed post on my blog on how to install Ubuntu Lucid on a server running an Areca 1880 series or any other unsupported controller. http://www.3dinfluence.com/blog/installing-ubuntu-server-unsupported-raid-controller -- David -- ubuntu-server mailing list ubuntu-server@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server More info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam

Re: Hardware RAID
Maybe try during the boot sequence to get into the raid setup and look there? Some control key or function key should get you into it, if you can do this the particular key should be displayed as part of the pre ubuntu boot messages mark On Fri, Oct 9, 2009 at 9:29 AM, Kaushal Shriyan kaushalshri...@gmail.comwrote: Hi, is there a way to know what type of Hardware RAID has been configured on the running ubuntu 8.04 server Thanks, Kaushal -- ubuntu-server mailing list ubuntu-server@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server More info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam -- ubuntu-server mailing list ubuntu-server@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server More info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam
