I already replied on ~server-vip, but just to make it more visible: I
raised this question yesterday on #ubuntu-devel, and the official answer
(from Julian) is that add-apt-repository will *not* be deprecated and is
still the recommended way to add PPAs to one's system. Having said
that, there are certain functionalities of add-apt-repository (not
related to PPA support) that can be considered as deprecated.

Monday triage report (2023-09-05)

2023-09-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Bugs last updated between 2023-09-01 (Friday) and 2023-09-04 (Monday) inclusive
Found 35 bugs

Almost everything was either already handled and in process or correctly
triaged and just on the list due to administrative modifications. The
only ones requiring action, are:

LP: #160631  || D   | Triaged   | openssh | scp
does not validate existance of file before connecting t… |
  - Reported to be fixed in new openssh release, available in Debian but
not yet Ubuntu. I left a note to this effect.
  - Given this is an ancient bug, it may not be a good candidate for
backport. Colin Watson maintains this package and we can assume
he'll handle whatever else might need done.

LP: #1880157 | *  | DJK | Confirmed | realmd  | realmd
generates wrong 'services' section in sssd.conf duri… |
  - Is on the list due to just a drive-by ping that it affects Ubuntu
Pro images as well.
  - Andreas is aware already and appears to have triaged the status
properly.

LP: #2007055 | *  | DJ  | Incomplete| samba   |
 cifs/samba mount not preserving file timestamps |
  - Mitchell had been investigating this recently but I gather it's
blocked due to unreproducibility.
  - The reporter has offered to help with reproducing but sounds like he
could use some direction on how to generate images/containers for
testing purposes.

LP: #2029431 | *  | D   | Fix Released  | libslirp|
  Provide static library in libslirp-dev |
  - There's a request to backport this fix to jammy. I've opened a bug
task against jammy for that work. Ubuntu-server is already
subscribed and its already tagged server-todo.

LP: #2033687 | *  | D   | New   | open-vm-tools   |
 open-vm-tools 12.3.0 has been released  |
  - New release needing packaged in Debian, mantic, and MRE-like SRU
backports
  - I took ownership of this, and requested Christian pull it into
Debian.
  - Although "no new features" there are enough non-bugfix changes
that I think it warrants an FFe.

LP: #2033905 || D   | New   | qemu|
  qemu-system-arm is missing dependency seabios |
  - Looks like might be trivial (just add a build depends) so would go
to server-todo, but set to server-triage-discuss in case there are
considerations to be considered.

Bugs not touched in 60 days:

LP: #1993356 |  + | D   | Triaged   | qemu|
udisks doesn't make sense from cdrom |

Bugs not touched in 180 days

LP: #1957924 || D   | Confirmed | libvirt |
rpc-worker: debugfs access is restricted |

  - If add-apt-repository is indeed deprecated as suggested, that might
be impactful to us. This might be worth further investigation.
