[Bug 213716] [NEW] dnsutils is not built with gss-tsig support

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dnsutils

dnsutils is not built with gss-tsig support. Without this, clients will

[Bug 155947] Re: ldap config causes Ubuntu to hang at a reboot

2008-04-07 Thread Dustin Kirkland
@Brian-

A few more questions, then...

So you can reproduce this problem reliably on a Hardy Beta fresh
install? And by reproduce, the machine hangs on boot (and not just on
login)?

Your process for reproducing this problem involves a fresh install of Hardy
Beta, and then customizing the config files as follows:
* /etc/ldap.conf: a hostname (not an IP or URI)
* /etc/ldap.conf: "bind_policyhard"
* /etc/nsswitch.conf: "group ldap files"

Then you remove connectivity to the ldap server, and you reboot the
Hardy Beta machine. At that point, your machine hangs on reboot? Is it
responsive to anything? Ping, etc?

On a subsequent reboot, can you check /var/log/syslog and paste any
relevant log messages from the previous boot?

2008-04-07 Thread Brian Zachary
Sorry I can't provide more detailed config info, but as I explained before,
the machine has been wiped and reinstalled and reconfigured many times since
the original problem. But mine was a clean Hardy install, and all our
configs lived in ldap.conf (no pam_ldap.conf or anything like that), and we
were using a hostname for the ldap server, not an IP.

Ok. It's a production system that started with Debian stable, then Ubuntu

No re-installs, could not afford downtime. All the time very problematic

Ahh... Okay, so this tells us something very interesting.

pam_ldap.conf hasn't existed since Feisty. There, it was part of the
libpam-ldap package.

What distro version are you running on the system where you've seen this

Re: [Bug 155947] Re: ldap config causes Ubuntu to hang at a reboot

Same happened to me. I think the problem lies in the reference to ldap
server.
With "pam_ldap.conf" my ref is a uri and works, but when I make it a
straight host name ref, then it hangs.
Dunno if this helps.

This thread points to /usr/share/doc/postfix/TLS_README.gz, which
claims:

NOTE: Do not use Gnu TLS. It will spontaneously terminate a Postfix daemon
process with exit status code 2, instead of allowing Postfix to 1) report
the error to the maillog file, and to 2) provide plaintext service where
 this is appropriate.

But that is the extent of the explanation. This doesn't explain why postfix
(but no other ldap-using apps) manages to trigger this issue with GnuTLS.

I find three locations in the libgcrypt11 source where exit(2) is invoked.
Two of them are related to a failure to allocate secure memory. The third
is when an internal logging function is called with GCRY_LOG_FATAL. For the
most part, this seems to be called in the case of memory corruption errors,
or when keys that have just been generated fail to pass a self-test, or upon
failing to initialize a mutex, etc; while it's always unfriendly for a
library to ever call exit() directly, these are at least cases where the
library is in such an inconsistent state that it's probably dangerous to
continue, and if postfix is triggering any of these it's almost certainly a
bug in postfix that needs to be fixed.

The other case where I see log_fatal() being called that may be problematic
is when libgcrypt can't get any entropy. This could point to a real problem
of interactions between libgcrypt and libcrypto (GnuTLS/OpenSSL).

It would be helpful to capture the stderr output from this process before it
dies, since libgcrypt appears to log all fatal errors to stderr; that will
help narrow this down to a GnuTLS vs. Postfix bug.

[Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...

2008-04-07 Thread BeBoxer
I took a stab at writing a script to be put into
/etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d to try and fix this problem. It is
quite simplistic, and simply unset's new_domain_name_server if the value
is the same as old_domain_name_server and reason is RENEW.

The logic is, if it's a RENEW and the name server hasn't changed, then
resolv.conf is either still up-to-date from when we BOUND the lease or
it has been updated by some other program. In either case, we can leave
resolv.conf along and assume it's contents are good.

Really though, this logic should be in dhclient-script itself. After
all, dhclient-script checks other important data to see if it's actually changed
rather than just blindly updating it. There is no reason why the
nameserver should be different. I can't think of any case where 1) it's
a RENEW and 2) the nameserver hasn't changed, where updating resolv.conf
is safer/better than leaving it alone.

/var/lib/samba/usershares is created during the postinst of the samba
package while the net command is part of the samba-common package.

However it doesn't stop nautilus from running properly.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Could you post the content of /var/log/daemon.log at the
time of the failed upgrade ?

[Bug 211915] Re: Insecure dependency when using sql for Log Reporting

2008-04-07 Thread Scott Kitterman
I'm not sure if it's wontfix or invalid. Either way I don't think
there's any actual amavisd-new fix needed. Perhaps the reporter could
suggest documentation changes that would have made this easier to
solve/prevent?

Re: [Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...

2008-04-07 Thread Markus K.
David,
in a way you are right. I can either redefine the client script and put
my own or I can take care that the ip is never renewed. I think it would
be better to a have a default configuration in ubuntu that leaves
resolv.conf alone when a vpn has been opened.

 Markus
