[Bug 201799] Re: Confusing mysqld startup failure with apparmor (Hardy)

2008-04-25 Thread Lost In Tokyo

Alternative solution:

1. Edit /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld and add the following two lines:

/home/mysql/ r,
/home/mysql/** rwk,

somewhere in the middle of the file. After the /var/lib/mysql lines would
be fine.
2. /etc/init.d/apparmor restart
3. /etc/init.d/mysql restart

You retain the benefis of apparmor. Maybe the comments in
/etc/mysql/my.cnf regarding apparmor can be expanded to cover exactly
what you should do if you reset mysql_data.

[Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...

2008-04-25 Thread Pirx
Installing resolv.conf had been the solution for me, though it ain't no
longer a solution.

Some of the recent updates in the run-up to (still beta-buggy) 8.04
something installed that neuters the soultion via resolv.conf. In
NetworkManager - Manual Configuration I have saved several
configurations with different DNS servers. Before connecting to the VPN,
I load one of them manually. Super-weirdly, the system needs a minute or
two to get used to the alternate settings. Or you restart networking.

Anyway, it ain't what it should be, and a permanent fix to this would be
highly desirable, to make Ubuntu fit for a production environment. At
this time, it is not fit for that.

I disabled app armor and now it is working.

/etc/init.d/apparmor stop
update-rc.d -f apparmor remove

We should really fix this since many are using this application in
Ubuntu.

[Bug 222224] [NEW] likewise-open: blows up session when joining the domain

2008-04-25 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: likewise-open

Logged in as a local user, I used 'domainjoin-cli' to join the windows
domain. This instantly killed the gnome panel, dbus, and the
NetworkManager applet, and therefore networking.

Now domainjoin-gui and domainjoin-cli indicate that I am joined to the
domain, yet likewise's winbind log says things like:

[2008/04/25 18:24:58, 0] libsmb/cliconnect.c:cli_session_setup_spnego(856)
  Kinit failed: Preauthentication failed
[2008/04/25 18:25:00, 0] libsmb/cliconnect.c:cli_session_setup_spnego(856)

[2008/04/25 18:25:00, 1] winbindd/winbindd_util.c:trustdom_recv(258)
  Could not receive trustdoms

'lwiinfo -u' says "Error looking up domain users"

'getent -s lwidentity passwd' returns nothing.

sudo takes forever to do anything.

It seems that the domainjoin utilities are lying through their teeth.

Ok, thanks, this is also useful information, and makes me suspect more
strongly that it may be an issue with insufficiently-tight dependencies on

Re: [Bug 221737] Re: upsd doesn't start on system startup

2008-04-25 Thread Dustin Kirkland
I tend to agree with Mathias here. I installed nut and was surprised
to find out I had to go digging around /etc/default to turn it on. I
think we should update that config file on installation.

[Bug 221427] Re: package samba-common 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 failed to upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy

2008-04-25 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Andreas,

I see that, at least presently, you have the current version of the ucf
package installed from Ubuntu 8.04.

Can you tell me if this error is reproducible for you if you re-attempt
the upgrade? It may be that this dependency on ucf needs to be a
versioned dependency because the previous version of ucf is
insufficient.

This doesn't seem to be a very common problem, since no one has reported
it before now; there may be something very particular to your
installation that causes this hang, which we'll try to get to the bottom
of.

If it hangs on a subsequent attempt, the output of 'ps awx | grep -A5
samba-common' may help diagnose this further.

Why is upsd not started by default ? Is there a reason why the upsd

When a package is installed it should work out of the box with a sane

Might also explain why I get a security prompt when I double click the

[Bug 217984] Re: Totem exits fullscreen mode when playing from Samba share

2008-04-25 Thread Michael Lueck
Today I reloaded my Hardy test box with the release version - formatted
all partitions. Problem as described still exists.

The test box has an empty /var/crash directory. I decided to investigate
if the PID really goes away. I discovered something I think is rather
odd.

mdlueck 6964 15.6 2.1 138528 44196 ?Sl 13:23 0:00 totem
smb://ldslnx01/data/AppData/Estonia/tallinn.mpeg

Even though I launched in Nautilus from the mounted Samba share, it
shows "smb://" in the process list... so is it using the Samba mount, or
a Nautilus "smb://" type connection? If the latter, might be a Nautilus
bug after all.

[Bug 221881] [NEW] dhcp3-client does not send hostname

2008-04-25 Thread Obleak
Public bug reported:

Just noticed my fresh install of hardy is not sending it's hostname to the
dhcpd3 server (and thus no entry is being added to a dynamic bind dns).
All worked as expected when I added "send host-name ""; back into

Alternatively I could have used the dhclient.conf.dpkg-dist which is the conf

I did see bug 10239 which reports the same problem with the same

[Bug 184747] Re: number handling in php broken on 32bit system

2008-04-25 Thread Russell Smith
My understanding is 64bit machines use 64bit integers, so 1 <<31 doesn't
overflow on 64bit. However on 32bit is does overflow. Even though an
unsigned integer is being printed, a signed integer is being calculated
as shown below;

printf("%s\n", (1 << 31)); returns -2147483648

This suggests it's wrapped back to the other end of the signed loop.

I believe the issue is that you wrap a signed integer on 32bit, and then
php doesn't get you back from the edge to give meaningful values. I
don't have the php debugging skills to nail down the specific issue with
integer wraparound. But that is certainly what's being experienced.

important because it breaks SMB share for a lot of people.
