yes, I was asked to make selection at which I chose to "keep the local version currently installed", then the installation stopped at the terminal screen. I exit the terminal screen and the installation seems continue and later again I was asked to make the same selection. Again I chose the same option with the installation skipping the Cleaning up the System and Restart steps and end. The strange thing is my systems now working very fine as the update was done correctly, despite the errors. thank you > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2008 17:22:56 + > Subject: [Bug 221963] Re: package samba-common 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 failed to > install/upgrade: > > Thanks for you post. > > It seems that you were asked to handle samba configuration files changes > - what did you do exactly ? [Bug 224945] [NEW] memory leaks in apache2 when running mod_ssl
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apache2 The following came in an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I asked the sender to file a report, but it hasn't happened yet, so I am filing it on his behalf (essentially pasting the email here). --- EMAIL FROM USER --- After upgrading our servers from Ubuntu 6.06 to Ubuntu 8.04 we started seeing MASSIVE memory leaks in Apache 2.2 (mpm-worker). Before decreasing MaxRequestsPerChild we actually got kernel panic OOMs so in our view this is a serious DenialOfSerivce vulnerability. I have spent some time debugging the issue using valgrind and some custom debugging printf's and I have so far concluded that it is related to SSLv3/TLSv1 zlib compression. How to reproduce the leak: (1) Set up a SSL-enabled host in Apache2.2. Session cache and the like does not seem to matter, but make sure that the childs run long enough to notice the leak. (2) Verify that zlib compression is enabled: $ openssl s_client -tls1 -connect host:port (3) Flood the host with compression enabled requests (no SSLv2): $ ab -n x -c y -f tls1 https://XXX Valgrind indicates that the leak occurs inside crypto/comp/c_zlib.c in libssl0.9.8g: static int zlib_stateful_init(COMP_CTX *ctx) { int err; struct zlib_state *state = -> (struct zlib_state *)OPENSSL_malloc(sizeof(struct zlib_state)); My debugging printf's seem to indicate that (in the same file): static void zlib_stateful_finish(COMP_CTX *ctx) is called correctly, but static void zlib_stateful_free_ex_data(...) which is supposed to free the zlib_state allocation is never called. The zlib_stateful_free_ex_data function seems to be called when I use openssl s_server instead of Apache as the SSL server. I am therefore not completely sure whether the root of this bug is in apache or openssl. BTW, bug #186339 looks like it is the same issue. ** Affects: apache2 (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Summary changed: - memory leaks when running mod_ssl + memory leaks in apache2 when running mod_ssl ** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- memory leaks in apache2 when running mod_ssl https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224945 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 224791] [NEW] nut upsmon not observing it's config file
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nut This bug concerns the ill-fated nut 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7 in ubuntu 8.04. The bug is that upsmon, which I've configured to write its warnings to tty sessions is frequently reporting spurious low-battery conditions. I immediately run upsc to check the battery and it's at 100%. Worst, I've tried to turn off low battery warnings in upsmon.conf without defeating the spurious warnings. The only relief has been to shut down nut entirely. [Bug 217787] [NEW] cups crashes when using web-gui and refuses to print
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: cupsys I tried to print today but the printing job was just put in the queue and nothing was printed. I did not get the printer icon in the notification area. I noticed how I got errors in auth.log from cups: Apr 15 15:42:56 thnov-desktop cupsd: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pam_smbpass.so) Apr 15 15:42:56 thnov-desktop cupsd: PAM [error: /lib/security/pam_smbpass.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory] I found that in bug #216990 this was solved by installing libpam- smbpass. Why was i missing this package? Anyway, after I installed it, still I cannot print. I restarted cups via '/etc/init.d/cupsys restart' and I can see that user lp has a couple of processes which seems to be handling by printing jobs. When I go to localhost:631 in a browser cups immediately crashes. This crash is not picked up by apport nor is anything written in /var/crash. I started the process manually so I could see the crash: $ sudo /usr/sbin/cupsd -f sh: /usr/share/samba/panic-action: Permission denied Aborted (core dumped) So, every time I restart cups now my jobs are being processed but nothing is being printed. I see no activity at my printer. [Bug 217137] Re: Hardy Heron: Nautilus fails to open directory with more than 140 subfolders
There is still no fix for this problem. I'm very disappointed that 8.04 was shipped with these kind of showstoppers. Yeah, they are showstoppers. I've found SMB shares in 8.04 to be very unstable, everyone in my organisation has. Some folders won't display, X is killed while browsing shares and you can't copy files directly from a share to the inbuilt CD burning folder!! Gutsy Gibbon didn't have these problems, not for anyone working where I am. The only two things that I can put my finger on are these: 1) bad implementation of Samba (or buggy release) 2) untested, buggy and incomplete implementation of gvfs I feel it is the latter. :( -- Hardy Heron: Nautilus fails to open directory with more than 140 subfolders https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217137 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 222761] Re: [SRU] upsd doesn't start NOT 221737
I rejected the latest upload, too, since the changed call to adduser looks invalid to me: -adduser --quiet --system --ingroup nut --ingroup dialout --home /var/lib/nut --no-create-home nut + adduser --quiet --system nut --ingroup dialout --home /var/lib/nut --no-create-home nut It specifies two non-option arguments now (nut nut), which isn't valid according to the manpage, and the semantics is unclear, too. Also, the user won't be in group nut any more. The changelog is inconsistent, too: + * debian/nut.preinst +- Make sure the nut user is acutally in the nut group or upsd wont start. + (LP: #222761) Please document the dialout change, too, and fix the adduser calls to put them in both groups. I suggest to make 'nut' the primary group and add a second "adduser nut dialout", and wrap both commands into a "getent passwd nut" check, and only do the two adduser calls if the user didn't exist before. -- [SRU] upsd doesn't start NOT 221737 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nut in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
