Re: [Bug 236830] Re: cifs does not support kerberos authentication

2008-07-31 Thread wzzrd
I suspect that you're seeing a periodic TGT refresh from Likewise; pam_krb5
doesn't provide infrastructure to refresh tickets automatically for you, but
 winbind/likewise do.

I figured as much. I knew Heimdal provided a similar feature, but I
had too little to do with recent versions of Winbind and Likewise in
general to have noticed this before. Nice though.

I haven't gotten krb5i working yet here either.
I see Jocelyn *is* able to use krb5i. I haven't been able to
downloaded the rebuilt packages from Intrepid Jocelyn provided. Maybe
I have time to try it today, else it will be after my vacation.

[Bug 192594] Re: unplug - plug again network cable

2008-07-31 Thread Thierry Carrez
I reproduced it (likewise-open goes to unplugged-mode and never comes
back) but a reboot fixes it (or a restart of likewise-open, as cfrein
suggested). You might be hitting bug 205111 on the reboot (likewise-open
removes init script links on domain join, resulting in likewise not
restarting automatically at reboot).

I reproduced the problem on the latest sources, I'll check if it is
known upstream.

[Bug 253032] Re: likewise-open-gui needs a better menu item name

After discussing it with pitti, we'll go for Active Directory

We also agreed that the features of likewise-open-gui should probably
migrate into network-manager in Intrepid+n, but that's a part of a
future spec targeting better AD integration of the desktop in general

[Bug 33649] Re: root raid installs have bad grub config

2008-07-31 Thread tricky1
@Dustin:

a) Even if smart status is not perfect it is a good idea to warn user
during boot in case of errors detected.

b) What I tried to suggest is not a visible timer (good idea but not
urgent), but the possibility that during _installation_ one can specify
if automatic degraded booting will ever occur. (default timer=0 - no
automatism)

and if automatism is disabled or the user intervening during the timers
run, she can make a well informed decison what arrays shall be run in
degraded mode.

[Bug 237115] [NEW] nscd: nss_ldap: server is unavailable

2008-07-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: libnss-ldapd

Since Hardy's release, when doing e kerberos connexion, a refusal to
open a gdm session may occur. Error message in gdm is : The system
administrator had temporarily disabled connexion to this system. In
auth.log: nscd: nss_ldap: server is unavailable

The problem occurs in the account phase, when the user account
information is beng pulled. The kerberos authentication is successful
but the user is not know by the system.

when this occurs, from another session we can do a:
# getent passwd user_having_issue
and we do not get a reply. After a certain time lapse, without any change to
the setup, the user becomes known again.
Note: during this period, other users are tested and work succesfully, which
shows that the ldap server does function properly.

To understand the issue better, a network trace was done and it can be seen
that on the TCP connexion use by the request
1- earlier: the LDAP server sent a end tcp session packet (FIN)
2- nssldap sends back an ACK
3- nssldap continues on using this connexion that he acknoledged closing

To try to go around the issue, it was tried to configure nsslap to not
use persistent connexion (ldap.conf : nss_connect_policy oneshot), but
once this is applied and the client rebooted, then gdm crashes
consistently at each authentication try (clearly identified in syslog).
The crash goes away after restoring the original config
(nss_connect_policy persist).

I still don't see this as practical, as it would necessitate moving
smartctl (and dependent .so's) into the initramfs. But if you have a
working patch, I'll gladly look at it.

 b) What I tried to suggest is not a visible timer (good idea but not
urgent), but the possibility that during _installation_ one can specify

This is handled by the patches for Bug #120375. With that code, you
are able to provide on the kernel boot parameters one of:
 * bootdegraded=true
 * bootdegraded=false

The default is 'false'. The timer is fixed at 30 seconds, which will
be spent in 0.1 second intervals, looking for new devices that might
have shown up, or a clean RAID device.

[Bug 253648] [NEW] bacula-director-pgsql postinst script uses UTF8 to create database instead of SQL_ASCII

2008-07-31 Thread ebl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula-director-pgsql

Release: hardy
Version: 2.2.8-5ubuntu7

The postinst script of bacula-director-pgsql package create the bacula
postgresql catalog in UTF8.

Bacula doesn't work with a postgresql DB using UFT8 encoding. If users
try to backup non-UTF8 files (ISO8859 for example) then postgresql will
refuse to insert filename into the database.

This issue is documented on bacula documentation
http://www.bacula.org/en/rel-manual/Installi_Configur_PostgreS.html#SECTION00522

To correct this, the package have to dump/drop/create/restore the bacula
database.

According to the bacula-director-pgsql.postinst script, the bacula user
is allowed to create database. This is not mandatory, and should be
avoided.

[Bug 253743] [NEW] [SRU] Add status to init script

2008-07-31 Thread Ante Karamatić
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2

In intrepid we included apache2 which does have 'status' function in
init script. I would like to request SRU for apache in hardy which would
add status function in hardy's apache.

This is needed cause, at the moment, redhat-cluster-suite requires init
scripts to have 'status' function. At the moment, apache in hardy
doesn't have it, so redhat-cluster-suite restarts apache every 5
seconds. Problem is described in bug 250847.
