[Bug 249824] Re: [intrepid] IPv6 unusable

2008-12-02 Thread Matt LaPlante
I've built a patched version for intrepid and uploaded to my PPA:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/cybrmatt/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/cybrmatt/ubuntu intrepid main

Very preliminary testing looks positive. Will continue running it.

Debdiff is attached as well.

[Bug 302026] Re: likewise-open prevents local passwords from being changed

2008-12-02 Thread Buddha
I also ran into this issue... but with even more dire results.

I can login with domain accounts, but not local accounts. Even the
local admin account no longer works which means I can't even get
updates.

If I boot with

rw init=/bin/bash

and then try to reset the local admin users password I get
"Authentication token manipulation error".

Sadly, I've found this to be the case more and more recently with bugs I
file with Ubuntu. I file bugs with complete full stack traces even and
all I get are "stab in the dark" "can you try this, or that, or the
other" guesses, if I get any response at all.

I've taken to skipping the filing of bugs at Launchpad and filing with
upstream -- for major packages such as gnome, evolution, mozilla, etc.
anyway. Not that responses upstream are any better.

It seems that everybody wants to work on the new, shiny, whizbang and
nobody wants to cleanup the mess the new, shiny, whizbang leaves in it's
trail.

I finally just downloaded the the Bind9 source from Jaunty and built it
myself. That's an option, not a good one in my opinion but at least it
works. I think the only problem I had was that it downgraded one of my

think.

[Bug 304574] [NEW] package nagios2-common 2.11-1ubuntu1.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2008-12-02 Thread Georges Jamieson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nagios2

I can't tell if it's a new bug. I have spent a lot of time going through
the various bugs. I upgraded to 8.04, used synaptic to install nagios.
It failed to configure and start. Once I started to investigate I found
a "working" Nagios 1.4 (my apache server could display the page). I
tried to uninstall nagios and had to do all sorts of things listed in
the various bugs as well as manually remove some directories.

After an apt-get purge (after touching( per several recomendations in
the bug reports) the apache2 nagios.conf which was deleted) I
reinstalled using apt-get.

The system generated a report and suggested I send it in which is what I
am doing in the hopes it may be helpful. Use the information if it's
helpful.

The NAS is Iomega Home Network Harddrive, the 500mb model.

The NAS It is running the most current firmware K1.08 L1.0 W1.5
Downloadable here http://is.gd/9VJ3

The NAS is pretty much a closed box and I do not know how to diagnose
which version of Samba it is running, if you can send me instructions on
how to determine the Samba version on the NAS I could run them.

This is some output of communicating with the device

[Bug 132077] Re: [gutsy] invoking smbpasswd with insufficient permissions dumps core

2008-12-02 Thread Steve Langasek
This is an unrelated issue. You appear to have a corrupted
/var/lib/samba/secrets.tdb file.

If you have a backup of this file, you should try restoring from it. If
not, you should move the file aside and allow samba to regenerate it.
Note that if your system is joined to a Windows domain, you will have to
re-join the domain and your host SID will change, invalidating any
remote ACLs.

[Bug 304437] [NEW] null_callback: error code 0x12

2008-12-02 Thread Will Nowak
Public bug reported:

Using 4 machines with slapd 2.4.9-0ubuntu0.8.04.2 on hardy. Master with three
syncrepl slaves. After a week or so of proper operation, syncrepl replication
stops functioning, and updates are no longer propagated from the master to the
slaves.
Deleting the slapd DBs in /var/lib/ldap and restarting the slave will fetch a
new dataset from the master, but it will not remain up to date after that.
Re-initializing the master and slaves all together will reset to the beginning
success, soon to be followed by a replication failure.
Sample log of replication failure from a slave perspective is here:

I haven't had a change to test this yet but when I do, I will make a
backup of /var/lib/samba so that the fault can be traced exactly.

In my case, the system was upgraded from hardy. I don't believe the
failure started until a few days after and I don't think they would have
installed libpam-smbpass manually.

[Bug 304388] [NEW] Gratuitous file /etc/samba/gdbcommands

2008-12-02 Thread era
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba-common

The directory /etc/samba contains a spurious file gdbcommands which does
not appear to be documented. To the extent that I am able to guess what
it's for, it should probably simply be removed, or else documented e.g.
in the /usr/share/doc/samba-common/README.Debian.gz file (which does not
currently exist).

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=299919 hints that it
may have been useful at some point, but I don't see any reference to it
in /usr/share/samba/smb.conf or /etc/samba/smb.conf any longer (if there
ever was one).

[Blueprint groupware-server] Groupware Server

2008-12-02 Thread James Hyland
Blueprint changed by James Hyland:

Whiteboard changed to:

2006-12+21 khaeru: might this be handled by the ubuntu-server-tasks spec?
é
21/12/2006 - I think we should pick an existing suite, i.e. hula and then
create the ubiquitous middleware to achieve what we want

13/07/2007 (stephan-impilinux) - We have recently evaluated a load of
these solutions and have some professional experience in it.

2008-06-07 (pixelpapst) - Just a quick reminder that the hula project
ist effectively dead since late 2006, and the community created a fork
called "bongo project". However, by now they ripped out all of Hula's
LDAP connectivity, which makes this a very pretty but useless solution
for SmallBusinessServer.

2008-06-08 (Guy Van Sanden) Citadel seems a very good choice. IT offers many
features (including a Jabber server) and is completely GPL'ed.
The only caveat is that it does not have LDAP support (yet)

2008-06-19 (Art Cancro) -- yes, definitely go with Citadel. Ubuntu
packages are already being maintained, and the project would be
delighted to cooperate with the Ubuntu team on integration issues.

2008-06-19 (Todd Hanna) I would also like to give a big +1 to Citadel.
They already have the .debs and there is even a connector to use it as
an "Exchange" replacement if you have clients using Outlook. I have run
it without issue on Ubuntu server since version 6.06. It's head and
shoulders above the rest at the moment.. and it is easy to setup,
update, and maintain.

2008-07-08 (Stuart Cianos) - I'll also give major points to Citadel, and
have been a longtime user of it. It is the only open-source groupware
package that is self maintaining and straightforward to configure.

2008-07-09 (Stephan Buys) - Please also dont forget Kolab (Citadel
implements the Kolab v1 format). Kolab has 3 plugins for Outlook,
support Horde Webmail, Thunderbird/Lightning and Kontact.

2008-07-09 (Guy Van Sanden) RE Kolab - Kolab is not a full groupware
AFAIK, it does not have a web interface. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2008-07-09 (Christian Merlin) Remember also SOGo
(http://sogo.opengroupware.org/) it use LDAP for users and PostgreSQL
for database. So It could be easy to integrate with Ebox (http://ebox-
platform.com/). So Ubuntu can became an'easy and powerfull groupware
server like the commercial one.

2008-07-10 (Stephan Buys) Kolab does have a web interface (for admin and
email) through Horde (www.horde.org). Calendars, Contacts and Tasks can
be shared between Outlook/Kontact/Horde/Thunderbird

2008-07-10 - Personally I prefer bongo, however it is still in its
infancy. It has a great UI, and is targeted at being simple to install
and use

2008-11-14 - (Guy Van Sanden) Zarafa is becoming an option too. It was
AGPL'd recently and offers many features including CalDAV in the
upcoming 6.30 release.

2008-11-14 - (Stuart Cianos) Only the server-side components of Zarafa
were opened up... There are still numerous proprietary functions that
are unavailable in the AGPL version. There are plenty of completely open
solutions out there (Horde, Citadel, Kolab, etc.) Personally, I use
Citadel (with Funambol for push e-mail) due to its funtionality,
reliability, speed and flexibility... They also have a fantastic
developer/user community that is supportive and communicative.

2008-11-15 - (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart Cianos Actually most of it seems to be
in the AGPL version except for the client license required for Outlook usage.
Which is logical, if you are paying for closed source outlook you should also
pay for the connector...
I know about citadel, have been running it for 2 years but it does have some
issues and lacks certain features like LDAP integration.

2008-11-16 (Stuart Cianos) @Guy Van Sanden: Citadel will allow you to
authenticate against any service which support the underlying
authentication of the operating system (in this case, PAM). I have used
this to authenticate users against PAM using modules such as pam_ldap;
additionally, it can automatically populate an LDAP directory with
information from its global address book for use with external clients.

2008-11-29 (Giorgio Zarrelli) I do not see eGroupware, what about it?

2008-12-01 (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart: I tried PAM based authentication on
Ubuntu, but it only works with pam_unix and not pam_krb5 or pam_ldap for me.
Though I really like Citadel in many ways, it has too many limitations to use
it as a full-blown groupware server like Zimbra or Zarafa. Zimbra is nice, but
it really needs a dedicated server to run properly.
@Giorgio: eGroupWare is not a groupware server but rather a Web frontend to
other servers.

2008-12-01 (Giorgio Zarrelli) @Guy. I agree on Zimbra. It's too
"expensive", not all people can afford a dedicated server just for a
groupware. Zarafa looks nice, but never tried it

Zimbra or potentially bongo are the prettiest of the groupware products
available which would make them great marketing tools for ubuntu.
However Zimbra has too many u

[Bug 286828] Re: Access to samba 3.0.24-3.0.25 shares using CIFS is broken on 8.10

2008-12-02 Thread Skokie
Thank you to all who have taken the time to investigate! The DNS323
suffers from this server side DFS bug but it is possible to work around
it!!!

Connect to the DNS using the web GUI and goto tools->system.

In this page you can save the configuration to your workstation.
After saving edit the file and add the following line under ;[ global ]
msdfs root = no

Save the file and now back in the GUI for the DNS323, upload the config
you edited. The device will reset but the settings will be passed on to
the samba server and all will be well in wellsville.

Thanks again!
