[Bug 306398] [NEW] upgrading php5 package overwrites installed PEAR packages

2008-12-08 Thread Michael Gauthier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

There was recently an update pushed to the php5 package. I installed
this update and it downgraded my installed version of PEAR. Upgrading
PHP for security/feature fixes in the PHP binary should not affect the
installed version of PEAR packages, especially if I have newer versions
installed. At the very least, I should be prompted to overwrite the old
versions.

Before updating the php5 package, I had PEAR 1.7.2 installed. After
updating, I had PEAR 1.6.1 installed.

[Bug 305393] Re: Please upgrade php5 to new upstream version 5.2.7

2008-12-08 Thread Micah Gersten
PHP 5.2.8 Released!
[08-Dec-2008]

The PHP development team would like to announce the immediate
availability of PHP 5.2.8. This release addresses a regression
introduced by 5.2.7 inregard to the magic_quotes functionality, that was
broken by an incorrect fix to the filter extension. All users who have
upgraded to 5.2.7 are encouraged to upgrade to this release,
alternatively you can apply a work-around for the bug by changing
"filter.default_flags=0" in php.ini.

** Summary changed:

- Please upgrade php5 to new upstream version 5.2.7
+ Please upgrade php5 to new upstream version 5.2.8

[Bug 264943] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2008-12-08 Thread rossjenkins
I hate to be wet blanket, but I still have problems with samba/smbfs
under Intrepid. I installed the samba files from Thierry's ppa
repository. Nautilus indeed now lets me see and list the contents of my
Iomega 500 GB Home Network Hard Drive and copy files from the drive to
my Intrepid desktop. However, I can't write any files to the drive using
Nautilus and SMB/CIFS or via ftp. I tried using smbclient in a terminal
to "put" a test file onto the NAS drive and this is the output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ smbclient //192.168.0.198/ubuntu
Enter ross's password:
Domain=[MSHOME] OS=[R] Server=[R]
smb: \> put /home/ross/Desktop/test.file test.file
Error writing file: ERRHRD - 39 putting file /home/ross/Desktop/test.file as
\test.file Receiving SMB: Server stopped responding Call returned zero bytes
(EOF) closing remote file \test.file
smb: \>

The same test under Hardy from a laptop results in this successful
output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ smbclient //192.168.0.198/ubuntu
Password:
Domain=[MSHOME] OS=[R] Server=[R]
smb: \> put /home/ross/Desktop/test.file test.file
putting file /home/ross/Desktop/test.file as \test.file (135.9 kb/s) (average
135.9 kbs)
smb: \>

So something is still wrong with Samba, at least on my Intrepid desktop.
I am going to revert back to release Samba package for Intrepid and see
what smbclient does and see if I can at least get ftp to the NAS working
again.

Any thoughts? BTW, the Nautilus error that gets thrown up when I try to
write a file with the new Samba installed is:

Error while copying "test.file".
There was an error copying the file into smb://192.168.0.198/ubuntu/.
V Show more details
No space left on device.

Maybe that is how Nautilus interprets ERRHRD -39 ? The NAS disk is 500GB
with lots of room.

Ideas?

[Blueprint encrypted-swap-by-default] Encrypted Swap By Default

2008-12-08 Thread Przemysław Kulczycki
Blueprint changed by Przemysław Kulczycki:

Whiteboard changed to:

(steve.langasek) When I migrated my laptop from hardy to intrepid, I
turned on encrypted swap at the same time (swap LV on top of
LVM+encryption). Anything that makes heavy use of swap on my desktop
now brings the whole system to its knees. Please be cognizant of
performance issues when implementing this - I fear this may be untenable
as a default for desktop systems.

(Roderick Greening) It would never be expected to encrypt a swap file
which exists in a LVM encrypted drive. Given that to build a LVM system,
you have to use the alternate cd, the user would be in total control of
these choices. Via the regular live CD/DVD, LVM is not a option (that I
recall), so encrypting the swap by default should not be problematic.

(Paul Klapperich) As far as encrypted swap working with hibernate, it
sounds like this goes nicely on computers that have a TPM as per the
second link. I don't have one to test. For computers without a tpm, I
don't know how ecryptfs works, but for luks we could perhaps use a pam
module to hold the user account password for the duration of the login
and set it as an alternate key for the luks swap partition (which
previously had a random key only) if the user initiates a hibernate.
Alternatively a global "swap password" could be created instead of (or
somehow in addition to) random key encryption, but that's an extra
password that now all users of the system would be required to know. It
would, however, allow a resume from hibernate followed by a switch user
if the person who hibernated is not present.

(Przemysław Kulczycki) Will this block the system's ability to write
crash dumps to swap partition and to save it from swap partition to file
after a reboot?

[Bug 249824] Re: [intrepid] IPv6 unusable

2008-12-08 Thread MMlosh
No problems spotted (packages from "deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/cybrmatt/ubuntu intrepid main")

For testing I've one machine with these packages and one with dnsutils
from Debian Etch

I can confirm, that it works. When I try to force v6, then it uses
address " :::#53", but that behavior can be
intended...

[Bug 251337] Re: Shutdown from XFCE returns to login if inbound ssh session active

2008-12-08 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since
this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work,
I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

I can reproduce this bug using Xubuntu 8.04 as the SSH client and
Xubuntu 8.10 as the SSH server. If I SSH to the 8.10 system, and then
select Quit -> Shutdown, the system will logout the current user only.
It will not shutdown until I break the SSH connection at the client. I
am attaching the ~/.xsession.error log.

I changed the package to openssh, based on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/251337/comments/1
from Sebastien Bacher that it does not seem to be a gdm bug.

[Bug 251337] [NEW] Shutdown from XFCE returns to login if inbound ssh session active

2008-12-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gdm

(split off from bug #196816)
On Ubuntu Hardy Heron, if an inbound ssh session (from another system) is
active, a shutdown initiated from an XFCE session fails to shut down the system
and instead returns to the login screen. With a Gnome session the shutdown
proceeds normally. An outbound ssh session, from tty1 for example, does not
inhibit the XFCE-initiated shutdown sequence.

On Xubuntu Intrepid Ibex Alpha 2 this occurs with both XFCE and Gnome
(added via ubuntu-desktop). Neither will shut down if an inbound ssh
session is active.

I can't see any differences in the logs between a Gnome-initiated
shutdown and an XFCE-initiated one. The issue is 100% reproducible.

[Bug 303458] Re: segfault in pam_smbpass.so

2008-12-08 Thread Thierry Carrez
zedtux:
OK, then we can try to cleanup by hand:
$ sudo rm -rf /var/lib/samba
$ sudo mkdir /var/lib/samba

pam_smbpass.so is known to segfault if the /var/lib/samba directory
doesn't exist, or if it is non-empty, filled by something it doesn't
like. I never saw it segfault when using an existing, but empty
/var/lib/samba... yet :)

(As I said in comment 3, to clean up, you should have purged *both*
samba-common and libpam-smbpass, ensure that /var/lib/samba has been
removed, and then reinstall libpam-smbpass (which will reinstall samba-
common in the process). That's because the /var/lib/samba directory is
installed by the samba-common package, not the libpam-smbpass one.)

I'll do a simpler patch just removing the offset check Marcus talks

[Bug 305393] Re: Please upgrade php5 to new upstream version 5.2.7

2008-12-08 Thread Micah Gersten
It's been officially removed from php.net, here's the announcement:

PHP 5.2.7 has been removed from distribution
[07-Dec-2008]

Due to a security bug found in the PHP 5.2.7 release, it has been
removed from distribution. The bug affects configurations where
magic_quotes_gpc is enabled, because it remains off even when set to on.
In the meantime, use PHP 5.2.6 until PHP 5.2.8 is later released.

Not sure what to do with this request.

Thanks.

[Blueprint ldap-defaultdit-usergrp-mgmt] Default LDAP DIT for user and group managment

2008-12-08 Thread .Ru
Blueprint changed by .Ru:

Whiteboard changed to:

dendrobates: This is a good idea, but I would like to see a community
discussion about DIT layout. i.e. the use of dc=example,dc=com, over
o=example.com. I have almost always used dc, but not for any good
reason.

ru: having DIT in any form is very important for corporations. this
feature can (in future) replace MS AD ecosystem.
