[Bug 315896] Re: freeradius upgrade broken in hardy backports

2009-01-10 Thread Alan DeKok
Performing automated upgrades across major revision numbers of a program
isn't recommended.

There are a large number of changes in the configuration files and in
their processing from version 1.1.x to version 2.1.x. Writing scripts
to do automated upgrades is extremely difficult. The upgrade process
MUST be done by hand.

My suggestion is that the 2.1.x installer check the major version number
of the previously installed package. If they don't match, it should
refuse to do the upgrade.

[Bug 286119] Re: firefox 3.0.3 crashes (no SIG) on most pages w images: 8.10beta AMD64

2009-01-10 Thread bongey
I can test i386 and amd64 but I don't see a version for samba-3.2.3.

Debian I think is moving to the next version of samba , this might get
fixed that way?

[Bug 315190] Re: package samba-common 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1p

2009-01-10 Thread mike stewart
I was applying a normal patch update.

the update was proceeding normally when the patch seemed to apply my
"patched nvidia drivers" during upgrade - my screen went black and then
seemed to hang. i hit the power switch after waiting some time, and a
"shutdown" broadcast message appeared (typical of a shutdown -now).

i haven't yet checked my logs (and not certain which one to check), but
this seemed to be more related to new nvidia driver patch and samba was
simply the next package in line in the update patch script.

** Summary changed:

- package samba-common 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
post-installation script returned error exit status 1p

[Bug 315896] [NEW] freeradius upgrade broken in hardy backports

2009-01-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When upgrading from freeradius 1.1.7 to freeradius 2.1.0 from the hardy
backports repository, the upgrade isn't clean, and left freeradius on my
system unusable without remediation.

It seems that the freeradius package from 1.1.7 has been split into
several smaller packages in 2.1.0, and while the upgrade correctly pulls
in the new freeradius-common package, it doesn't also pull in the also
new freeradius-utils package as a dependency. This means that many
binaries, such as "radtest", that were previously installed, are no
longer available, until the new "-utils" package is installed.

Additionally, there seem to be issues with the supplied configuration
and initscripts.

With the configuration as delivered by the package, freeradius won't
start due to configuration errors, where files that don't exist are
pulled in using "$INDLUDE". The main issue here is with some of the SQL
config files. Commenting out the relevant $INCLUDE lines in
/etc/freeradius/radiusd.conf means that `freeradius -XC` has a return
code of 0, indicating the config is clean, and freeradius will then
start.

The initscript gives the impression that the daemon should use
"/var/run/freeradius/freeradius.pid" as it's $PIDFILE, and that if the
containing directory doesn't exist, it will be created. This only
partially happens -- the directory is created, and correctly chown'd,
but no PIDFILE is created within it. However, a logentry in
"/var/log/freeradius/radius.log" states: "Error: Failed creating PID
file /var/run/radiusd/radiusd.pid: No such file or directory".

If I create that directory, then a PIDFILE is created correctly, but
when shutting down freeradius, the initscript looks for the configured
PIDFILE in /var/run/freeradius, doesn't find it, and therefore can't
kill the process, leaving freeradius running, and un-restartable (it
can't bind to it's socket, because it's already in use, by the previous,
unstopped, freeradius process), leaveing the system in an inconsistent
state -- the PIDFILE, which isn't used, says one thing, but `ps aux |
grep rad` says another. Editing the initscript seems to clear up this
ambiguity, but it's not a clean fix as it means that it's no longer in
sync with the repository package, and while that's usually OK and
expected with config files, it's not normally a good idea for
initscripts.

Has anyone else had this issue? I can't see any other bugs relating to
it here on launchpad, but maybe I just got here first...

Cheers.

Dameon.

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2009-01-10 Thread nukedathlonman
Yes, it most certainly does effect Debian as well.

My desktop has this problem (Ubuntu Intrepid) and I cannot connect to my
D-Link DNS-323 NAS unless I mount it manually from the command prompt.
I did try all of the suggestions here. I can see the server, I can see
the share, I get prompted for log in info, and then I see empty folder
with the message about not being able to display contents of the share.

My Laptop, running Debian Etch worked fine until I did some apt-pinning
to pull newer stuff in from Lenny & Sid. I ended up needing to pull
Gnome in from Lenny. And now I'm having the same results - cant access
the smb share unless mounted via command prompt.

For now, I'm watching and trying new things as they come up - until it's
fixed I'm just using the ftp service on the DNS-323 (slightly
inconvenient, but it works)

[Bug 286828] Re: Access to samba 3.0.24-3.0.25 shares using CIFS is broken on 8.10

2009-01-10 Thread simonm
Symptom: When mounting remote CIFS shares from my Apple Time Capsule
(either by /etc/fstab or mount command) I would only see around 150 of
the 5000 directories in my "Media" folder.

Also, redirection from stdout to a file would work when the file was
created, but appending would not work.

so:
% pwd
/remote/mount/
% echo "1 2 3" >> test_file
% cat test_file
1 2 3
% echo "4 5 6" >> test_file
% cat test_file
1 2 3
cat: test_file: Input/output error

I updated to 2.6.27-11-generic (via Intrepid-proposed) and added the
"nodfs" option to my /etc/fstab entry.

Now, I see all directories as expected.

However, stdout redirection to a file still seems to be misbehaving...
% uname -a
Linux freya 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 8 08:38:33 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
% pwd
/remote/mount/
% echo "1 2 3" >> test_file
% cat test_file
1 2 3
% echo "4 5 6" >> test_file
% cat test_file
1 2 3
cat: test_file: Input/output error

Additional info:
% mount | egrep -e '(cifs|smb)'
//192.168.0.2/storage on /media/storage type cifs (rw,mand)

% grep cifs /etc/fstab
//192.168.0.2/storage  /media/storage cifs
credentials=/root/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0664,dir_mode=0775,uid=simonm,gid=audio,nodfs
 0 0

So, still having some issues with appending to files. Creating /
deleting seems fine.

[Bug 201736] Re: "Hammering" via ssh crashes Ubuntu Server

2009-01-10 Thread Aero9000
I built a new kernel (2.6.27.8) and on at least one occasion the server
dropped into initramfs. This occurred after the server had remained
switched off for quite some time (about 4 weeks). It had remained
powered, though. At that particular occurrence I was not been hammering
the server. In fact, I have not been able to have the server drop in
initramfs by hammering it via SSH.

To rule out any hardware related issues, I will re-set up the server
with Ubuntu 8.10. Since I am in no real rush to do that, would you have
any preference for me to upgrade the existing install or do a fresh
install?

Thanks.

It reports that Apache 2 and Apache 2 Development Headers are not

Development Headers (apache2-prefork-dev) fails to install suggesting
the package is broken. This is on an x64 Intrepid install. I have a very
similar setup on an x32 Intrepid install and it installs fine. Here is
the error I get:

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
