[Bug 305901] Re: Intrepid gcc -O2 breaks string appending with sprintf(), due to fortify source patch

2009-01-28 Thread Mathieu Marquer
Actually :
* On the time I've seen this problem, it was still there after three reboots.
But it has now disappeared...
* If I try to revert to an earlier version of glibc, synaptic wants as well to
remove 56 packets including some important ones... So I prefer not to try.

So for the moment, this problem has disappeared.

[Bug 322214] [NEW] php incorrectly opens stdin

2009-01-28 Thread Edward Z. Yang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

PHP appears to be opening stdin improperly. You can see the behavior by
running:

$ php -i | less

Notice how less does not redraw the screen correctly, and pressing the
up or down arrow keys results in ^[OB being written to the bottom of the
screen. I think that this is because of a race condition between php and
less. The following command does not have the problem:

$ php -i  /dev/null | less

This has been reproduced on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid as well as a clean
Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy machine (with php-cli installed first, of course). It
could not be reproduced on Debian 4.0 etch, or a minimal, clean build of
PHP 5.2 off of the CVS source tree (on intrepid). I suspect one of
Ubuntu's patches is causing this problem, but I don't know which.

The PHP package version is 5.2.6-2ubuntu4

** Affects: php5 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 84899] Re: SSH with GSSAPIAuthentication option on SSH servers are very slow

2009-01-28 Thread Erno Kuusela
This bug is ~2 years old and cripples ssh use pretty badly. People waste time
hunting it down and working around it by disabling avahi or ssh's gss-api
stuff. I just upgraded to Jaunty alpha and it's still the same.
Is there some mechanism to propose this be fixed before Jaunty is out (i'm not
too familiar with this launchpad stuff)?

If there is an SRU for hardy, would it be possible to correct this bug

unintuitive.

[Bug 307408] Re: System freeze when working on Samba or Cifs mounted share of NetApp server

2009-01-28 Thread basketcase
I copied/pasted my /etc/fstab from my working 8.10 box with the proposed
kernel to my latest 9.04 install. Paths are the same as far as mount
points and location of .smbcredentials and I get this error:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //10.10.9.42/oit$/systems,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
(for several filesystems (e.g. nfs, cifs) you might
   need a /sbin/mount.type helper program)
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
   dmesg | tail or so

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //10.10.9.42/bmorriso,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
(for several filesystems (e.g. nfs, cifs) you might
   need a /sbin/mount.type helper program)
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
   dmesg | tail or so

Now if I just go to 'Places' 'Connect to Server' and connect to the
shares that way. It works. I'm able to browse the share, open
documents, files, whatever else...even write to them. Never crashed
once, unlike the old 8.10 that would crash almost instantly. I'd say it
is fixed in 9.04.

[Bug 84899] Re: SSH with GSSAPIAuthentication option on SSH servers are very slow

2009-01-28 Thread DaveAbrahams
I've reproduced the problem on: Intrepid Minimal CD Install + ssh

There's no apparent avahi installed or activated

In that configuration, -o GSSAPIAuthentication=no on the client
command line has no effect, nor does setting it in the server's
ssh_config file (though why that would change anything, I have no idea).
The only way to suppress the delay seems to be to put

UseDNS no

in the server's /etc/ssh/sshd_config

[Bug 282876] Re: drbd doesn't start on boot

2009-01-28 Thread brainsik
Steps 1, 2, and 3 are now in the bug description as well.

** Description changed:

- On a fresh install of Intrepid Server drbd is not started on system
- boot. However, manually running /etc/init.d/drbd start works fine. I
- noticed that the startup link in /etc/rc2.d/ is missing. After running
- update-rc.d drbd defaults the link is still missing, it only exists in
- rc3.d and rc5.d
+ The DRBD package is currently mentioned on one of the Ubuntu marketing pages:
+
+ DRBD is used in HA clusters to provide a redundant storage device. In
+ Intrepid's current state, DRBD will not start after a reboot. Thus, the
+ underlying storage will become unavailable. This is not the standard
+ behaviour and is due to incorrect LSB headers in the init.d script (it's
+ using redhat style runlevels instead of debian). A fix to the LSB
+ headers will allow the package to correctly start on system boot.
+
+ This packaged is fixed in the development branch according to the
+ Launchpad janitor comment below. The relevant section:
+
+ This bug was fixed in the package drbd8 - 2:8.3.0-1ubuntu1
+
+ * Modify init script's default runlevels (LP: #282876):
+ - start by default on 2, 3, 4 and 5
+ - stop by default on 0, 1 and 6
+
+ 52 days prior I attached a debdiff patch that did the same:

[Bug 313959] [NEW] package update-manager 1:0.93.34 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: SystemError in cache.commit(): E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Release is 8.04, despite the above tips returning 8.10, because it
happened during a distribution upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10

Upgrading from a patched/repaired 8.04 release following a power
failure and a smashed filesystem.

Failed when I tried an experimental 3 way merge of the dovecot
config file - an error panel popped up immediately saying that
the dovecot upgrade had failed.

At the very end of the upgrade, an error panel popped up titled
Could not install the upgrades and whose body said:
The upgrade aborts now. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery
will run now (dpkg --configure -a).

When I re-ran update-manager it did not offer the option to do
a distribution upgrade. It's possible it thinks the upgrade completed
( I see that /etc/issue says it's 8.10, although I have still not
attempted a reboot to see if it's really upgraded and working).

From apt.log (don't know if this is relevant, but I remember tetex
package had been broken some months earlier somehow):

[Bug 313959] Re: package update-manager 1:0.93.34 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: SystemError in cache.commit(): E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

2009-01-28 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve
Ubuntu.

Failed three-way merges of config files are the responsibility of the
package invoking ucf, not of ucf itself; it's the nature of three-way
merges that some will always fail, and this is not a bug in ucf.
Reassigning to dovecot.

[Bug 308647] Re: dhclient fails to be run during boot of Intrepid

2009-01-28 Thread du...@gmail.com
Well, suppose I forget the hostname part (Alt-FN shows
localhost.localdomain, even if a meaninfull value is in /etc/hostname,
and seems to stay that after dhclient).

Was having same problem after upgrading to Intrepid from Hardy.
I uncommented (removed the #) the following line from /etc/network/intefaces:
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Then I renamed /etc/rc2.d/S28NetworkManager to
/etc/rc2.d/K72NetworkManager to disable the NetworkManager.

After that, Internet works fine again.

I suppose the line was commented out of /etc/network/interfaces because
NetworkManager should call dhcpclient itself when it is not configured
but it does not?

Anyway, the bug seems to be with NetworkManager not dhcp3 client.

Russel, can you confirm that this workaround works for you?

[Bug 310211] Re: MySQL table check fails in ANSI mode

2009-01-28 Thread Andreas Olsson
I'm attaching a debdiff which applies DonQuichotes modifications to
debian-start.inc.sh. Above mentioned SQL query is the only thing being
modified.

It works well both with and without the ANSI sql mode. Just to be on the
safe side I've also tested the new query against these sql modes: DB2,
MAXDB, MSSQL, MYSQL323, MYSQL40, ORACLE, POSTGRESQL and TRADITIONAL.

[Bug 316974] Re: Mysql dead after update

2009-01-28 Thread Matteo Settenvini
Broken again for me with mysql-server-5.1 version 5.1.30-2ubuntu4; fails
upong trying to start the service. It was okay in the version before
this by following directions as per bug 316849, so that's not the case
anymore.

ChangeLog says:

mysql-dfsg-5.1 (5.1.30-2ubuntu4) jaunty; urgency=low

  [ Jonathan Riddell ]
  * Move data files to /usr/share/mysql-5.1 with
--datadir=/usr/share/mysql-5.1 to make them co-installable with mysql 5.0
  * Update debian/rules for the above change
  * Split out /usr/share/mysql-5.1 into new mysql-server-data-5.1 package.
These files are needed for embedded use of mysql (e.g. by Amarok).
  * Make mysql-server-5.1 conflict on mysql-server-core-5.0 (LP: #321185)

  [ Harald Sitter ]
  * Update all remaining references of usr/share/mysql/
  * Conflicts for the Kubuntu Intrepid deployment (subject for upgrade testing):
+ libmysqlclient16 replaces conflicts amarok-libmysqlclient16
+ libmysqlclient16.dev replaces conflicts amarok-libmysqlclient-dev
+ mysql-data-5.1 replaces conflicts amarok-mysql-data
  * Link /usr/share/mysql-5.1/aclocal/mysql.m4 to /usr/share/aclocal/

By the way, starting mysqld by hand via console, brings up the following
error:
090128 22:23:38 [ERROR] Can't find messagefile
'/usr/share/mysql/english/errmsg.sys'

In fact, that file is now in
'/usr/share/mysql-5.1/mysql/english/errmsg.sys', so I believe someone
should fix it.

The complete output to the console is:

mat...@dahlia:/usr/share/doc/mysql-server-5.1$ sudo mysqld
090128 22:29:20 [ERROR] Can't find messagefile
'/usr/share/mysql/english/errmsg.sys'

090128 22:29:22 InnoDB: Shutdown completed; log sequence number 0 36380721
090128 22:29:22 [Note]

Finally, running sudo /etc/mysql/debian-start brings this output:

[Bug 301104] Re: mysql-server-5.0.postinst causes seg fault

2009-01-28 Thread AlexF
I know this is kinda old, but I had the exact same thing happen on a Xen
VPS running 8.04.01 LTS as well. Made me flip out when everything
stopped working. The answer is here:

http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenFaq#head-
0c65b14e7ee88a250189f43f83138a3f712d8e4e

Under 4.1 of that FAQ:

Some modern distributions ship with a 'TLS' version of glibc that is
not fully compatible with Xen. To use Xen reliably and with maximum
performance you must disable the incompatible glibc. You can easily do
this by moving the /lib/tls directory (e.g., mv /lib/tls
/lib/tls.disabled).

Alternatively, install a Xen-specific GLIBC, see XenSpecificGlibc.

Not sure if that's a Xen issue or a glibc issue.
