[Bug 330883] [NEW] Browsing samba shared printers show nothing

2009-04-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

I use a box to share printers on a windows network. It's a Trendnet TE100-P21
http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=145_TE100-P21&cat=46

Using Jaunty and s-c-p 1.1.3+git20090217-0ubuntu1 I try to add network
printers.

I use the Network Printer->Find Network Printer
add the IP (192.168.1.200)
click on "find"
-> but "No printer was found at that address."

I attach the screenshot of the trendnet configuration. You can see that
there are multiple protocol enabled.

For informations printers attached to the Trendnet are :
Canon Pixma iX4000 (USB)
Epson EPL-5700 (//)

[Bug 296327] Re: smb:/// No application is registered as handling this file

2009-04-02 Thread Michael Gefen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 9372 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/9372

regarding the original bug report:

i resolved this issue in ubuntu by using those commands:

$ gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/command
'nautilus "%s"'
$ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/enabled true
$ gconftool-2 --set --type=bool /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/smb/need-terminal
false

i thing that this information should be in the gnome config in the first
place.

this adds nautilus as smb:// protocol handler.

oh, and i don't think this is a samba issue, at least not the first part
of the report.

Are you running NetworkManager in system mode or session mode? If the
latter network will come up only when a user has actually logged in.

I have just suffered this bug too, and it was after installing cups.

Now I can login again, and I have Samba, but I don't have CUPS. Is there any

According to http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24564973/my.cnf, mysqld is

issue with NetworkManager. Could you provide the output of the following

The apparmor profile should be put in complain mode when upgrading from

Could you post your mysql configuratioon file? Did you set the location

[Bug 303458] Re: segfault in pam_smbpass.so

2009-04-02 Thread Rafael Soares
"
Release: Jaunty

Since a recent upgrade (around the 16th of March), sudo has been broken.
Entering the correct password causes sudo to simply exit and not run the
command, it was found that this could be fixed by commenting/removing
the line

"auth optional pam_smbpass.so migrate"

in /etc/pam.d/common-auth

If the above line is present and not commented out, sudo or even su, will not
work.

SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address

These two errors are because dhclient-script does not support alias
interfaces. If you don't use this script, those errors go away. However
it's likely dhclient doesn't support alias interfaces at all, a
different dhcp client may the solution.

[Bug 351378] Re: dhclient fails for virtual interfaces (IP aliases)

2009-04-02 Thread Bryan McLellan
I believe this is a missing feature of ISC's dhclient. I can't find any
mention in the source of supporting virtual/alias interfaces outside of
the alias declaration in dhclient.conf(5) that allows you to specify a
static address to be applied to an alias interface in addition to the
address acquired by DHCP.

I did test and confirm that dhcpcd=1:3.2.3-1.1 does work on alias
interfaces on intrepid.

[Bug 354188] [NEW] Add apport hook to gather relevant information

2009-04-02 Thread Mathias Gug
Public bug reported:

It would be nice to add apport hooks [1] to gather relevant information
to help in debugging mysql bugs.

[1]: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport/DeveloperHowTo

Examples:
 * mysqld related messages from /var/log/daemon.log.
 * /etc/mysql.my.cnf (with private info such as password stripped)
 * /etc/mysql/debian-start
 * listing of /var/lib/mysql/mysql/ (list of mysql db tables)
 * free disk space from the partition where /var/lib/mysql/ is located.

I've attached a first version of an apport hooks providing the first
point above.

** Affects: mysql-dfsg-5.0 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Wishlist
 Status: Triaged

[Bug 352841] Re: SCP over IPv6 address is very Slow. Takes Hours

2009-04-02 Thread Bryan McLellan
Using only linklocal addresses I've sustained near 40MB/s copying a 10GB
file in the following patterns:

Ubuntu 8.10 -> Ubuntu 9.04
Debian 4.0 -> Ubuntu 9.04
Ubuntu 9.04 -> Ubuntu 8.10

It seems more likely that your problem would be a hardware issue.

Have you tried connecting the two Ubuntu machines directly together to
rule out any network equipment between the two?

Have you tried to copy from your FreeBSD machine to more than one Ubuntu
server to rule out a problem with that installation or hardware?

Any other testing that could possibly narrow it down? Thanks!

[Bug 333481] Re: dhcp client can't receive an ip address

2009-04-02 Thread Bryan McLellan
I noticed in your lspci output that your Realtek network chipset isn't
being detected completely and looked very similar to the comments in Bug
240470, particular this comment [1]. Please make sure that the BIOS on
your system has the latest firmware upgrade applied.

Re: [Bug 352841] Re: SCP over IPv6 address is very Slow. Takes Hours

2009-04-02 Thread Prasad Tadi
Bryan,

My hardware is little more complicated, I will explain that below...
But wants to make sure that I understood "Local Link".

Hope you are not referring to IPv4 address.
scp over IPv4 is fine. No issues at all. Only when I use the IPv6, it
chokes.

scp /tmp/x.iso 172.16.109.50:/tmp completes in less than 3 sec.
So almost the same speed that you are referring to.

When I use the same two systems and use the second network card
(IPv6), then it chokes.

ex:
scp /tmp/x.iso [a:b:c:d::e]:/tmp/ FAILS or completes in 1+ Hr :-(

So The issue I am referring is all about the IPv6 network addresses.

Coming to my hardware

It is all on a ESX server. All these VMs ( freebsd, Ubuntu Linux
boxes are on a single ESX server with VMware VM's.)
Logically speaking they are all on a single Hardware.

I tried between Multiple VMs freeBSD to different Ubuntu Servers
( within the same ESX and also VM resides in different ESX. No issues.

When I copy from one Ubuntu to other Ubuntu server using IPv6, then
only the issues shows up.

I will attache/share some more facts / data tomorrow.

HTH
Prasad

[Bug 351378] Re: dhclient fails for virtual interfaces (IP aliases)

2009-04-02 Thread Tom Metro
Bryan McLellan wrote:
> These two errors are because dhclient-script does not support alias
> interfaces.

That may be partly right. I see /sbin/dhclient-script contains the
comment:

# The alias handling in here probably still sucks. -mdz

and there's clearly evidence that it is attempting to support virtual
interfaces:

if [ -n "$alias_ip_address" ]; then

But real problem seems to be that the script contains lines like:

ifconfig $interface inet 0 up

and the current version of ifconfig spits out those errors when a
virtual interface is set to a zero IP address. The evidence suggests
that this worked at one time. In fact, multiple DHCP packages seem to
expect this operation to work. I recently tried udhcpc and got familiar
results:

# udhcpc --hostname=indianpoint --interface=eth0:0
--pidfile=/var/run/udhcpc.eth0:0.pid
udhcpc (v0.9.9-pre) started
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address
Sending discover...
Sending select for 192.168.0.235...
Lease of 192.168.0.235 obtained, lease time -1
Resetting default routes
adding dns 192.168.0.35

In this case the error is triggered when udhcpc tries to "deconfigure"
the interface before it configures it, but it happily ignores the error.

I'm wondering if one workaround might be to modify the scripts to do:
ifconfig $interface down
if $interface is virtual. (It seems dhclient-script already contains code to
detect virtual interfaces.) I presume there is a reason why "deconfiguring" an
interface is normally performed instead of downing it. (I'm guessing it might
make a difference if you were running other networking protocols in addition to
IP.) The distinction may be irrelevant for a virtual interface, or just for the
vast majority of use cases.

Running:
ip addr del $IP dev eth0:0

seems to work too, but has the effect of bringing down the virtual
interface and you need extra code to obtain the current IP address
(passing in a zero does nothing).

Before a permanent fix can be determined, it needs to be understood
whether this represents a bug in ifconfig, or an intentional change in
its behavior. I'm thinking of opening up a ticket against ifconfig that
this bug can be dependent on.

> If you don't use this script, those errors go away.

But is that a practical option? Doesn't the script provide a pile of
needed glue?

Patching the script seems more viable.

> I can't find any mention in the source of supporting virtual/alias
> interfaces...

The code in dhclient-script is enough to convince me that it was the
intention to support virtual interfaces. I'm pretty sure I've read
reports that they used to work prior to Ubuntu 8.04.

> I did test and confirm that dhcpcd=1:3.2.3-1.1 does work on alias interfaces

Is it a drop-in replacement that works with the rest of the existing
infrastructure in Ubuntu, like /etc/network/interfaces?

My next step was going to be using the 'up' argument in an interface
stanza for a physical interface to call udhcpc to configure a virtual
interface. It looks like this will work, but using something that works
with the normal documented way of declaring virtual interfaces in
/etc/network/interfaces is preferable.
