[Bug 380219] Re: Regression: Samba Read/Write Causes System Freeze

2009-06-03 Thread Thierry Carrez
It looks like a kernel CIFS issue, but I can't reproduce that.
Tested on kernel 2.6.30-6-server with a karmic CIFS client.

Could you please indicate the kernel version you're running ? Can you
reproduce it systematically ? What is the samba share you're connecting
to ? (version of server). Thanks.

[Bug 379715] Re: bin9 and apparmor problem

2009-06-03 Thread Thierry Carrez
Well, Ubuntu ships bind9 with an apparmor profile, not a chroot. If you change
its configuration to run in a chroot, you must obviously also change the
apparmor configuration so that it matches your specific way of doing things.
Closing as Invalid, as this is not a bug.

[Bug 380219] Re: Regression: Samba Read/Write Causes System Freeze

2009-06-03 Thread David Bridson
Thierry,

I can reproduce this systematically using kernel 2.6.30-6-generic .
However, this issue appears to be fixed in the kernel 2.6.30-7-generic
which was released this morning.

Best Regards,
David

Description: sar, iostat and mpstat - system performance tools for Linux
 The sysstat package contains the following system performance tools:
  * sar - collects and reports system activity information;
  * iostat - reports CPU utilization and I/O statistics for disks;
  * mpstat - reports global and per-processor statistics;
  * pidstat - reports statistics for Linux tasks (processes);
  * sadf - displays data collected by sar in various formats.
 .
 The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer rates,
 paging activity, process-related activities, interrupts,
 network activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU
 utilization, kernel activities and TTY statistics, among
 others. Both UP and SMP machines are fully supported.

When the server is shut down the script still fails.

My system upgraded a few times, so the mysql configuration didn't have a user

I did some searching and found this thread
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-112505.html
So I went to /etc/mysql/debian.cnf to get the password. Then I updated the
password using
UPDATE user SET password=PASSWORD('***password from file goes here') WHERE
user='debian-sys-maint';
 FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Then I ran the update and it went fine. even without it being disabled.
Since I didn't do them independently I don't know if it was the password
that was the problem all along or if shutting the mysql server was
necessary. The server was not off when I ran the second upgrade.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 105457] Re: mysqd_safe high cpu usage

2009-06-03 Thread NickA
I woke up this morning and found I was experiencing this issue on 9.04
(final, standard desktop version). I also saw two instances of
mysql_safe with one eating all the CPU. I installed mytop but didn't
see anything happening, and /etc/init.d/mysql restart did not help.
Both mysql.log and mysql.err were empty files.

The only mysql database on this box is for Amarok 1.4, and amarok was not
running at the time. Last night the problem was definitely not occurring, and
I hadn't logged into this system for a couple days prior to that (the box was
restarted on Sunday). The commands I performed last night were:
an apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get install prelink
prelink -amR

I just went through y dpkg.log, and mysql was updated last night, so I'm
willing to bet the bug was somehow triggered by that process.

[Bug 380272] [NEW] /etb/mtab shows cifs mount options usernames and password

2009-06-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug:

Binary package hint: mount

When mounting CIFS share you can read all mount options from /etc/mtab.
This is major security risk if you are using shared network resources.
Here is example of mine cifs mount information:

//192.168.1.10/Tet /home//Mount/Tet cifs
rw,username=,password=,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,uid=1000
0 0

I found this on Ubuntu 8.10 server and 9.10 desktop edition.

Could this one fix it :

What are the permissions of the file /etc/mysql/debian-start?
The following command output would be useful:

 ls -l /etc/mysql/debian-start

2009-06-03 Thread Mathias Gug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed
in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Karmic Koala.

If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do
steps 1 and 2 of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a
developer's attention.

[Bug 283811] Re: cups says "can't promp for authorization" when printing to my samba printer

2009-06-03 Thread Insun Song
I had the same issues from my Ubuntu (Jaunty) client.
Situation might be a little different from others.
In my case, inkjet printer is physically connected to the other Ubuntu server
(Hardy).
I have printed through samba share, but it hasn't worked since the OS of the
client was updated from Intrepid to Jaunty.

My solution is publishing shared printers on the server side.
To do this, go to System > Administration > Printing > Server on the server
side.
Check "Publish shared printers ..."
Check "Allow printing from the Internet"
Then, on the client side, I removed all printers that were manually set up,
and checked "Show printers shared by other systems" at System > Administration
> Printing > Server
Then the client detects the shared inkjet printer, and a new printer icon soon
appears on Printer configuration window on the client side.
It was successful to print a PDF file and test page through
the automatically detected shared printer, and printing is working fine so far.

Hope this helps.
