[Bug 390556] [NEW] openssh-server dos regression in jaunty (oom_adj)
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Binary package hint: openssh-server All child processes of openssh-server inherit the oom_adj value of -17 which makes the unkillable in low memory situation. Any user logged into the machine via ssh can cause a kernel-panic by creating a process that simply consumes memory. I have reported this before for Hardy (Bug #293000). [Bug 390579] [NEW] Enable UDP support (-DLDAP_CONNECTIONLESS) for Likewise-Open
Public bug reported: Our OpenLDAP is compiled (as is the default) without client support for CLDAP (connection-less LDAP, over UDP). This is primarily due to CLDAP never making it into a standard, as evidenced by its proposed move to historical status as RFC3352. However, CLDAP is used by Active Directory, and Likewise-Open requires its (client) openldap library to support CLDAP in order to talk with Active Directory. This makes Likewise-Open 5 compile and bundle its own OpenLDAP library for the sole purpose of getting CLDAP client support built-in. As Likewise-Open 5 is scheduled to move to main on this cycle, it makes sense to try to avoid shipping a private OpenLDAP library with it. Outcome of the discussion at UDS with Howard Chu was that enabling -DLDAP_CONNECTIONLESS should not have adverse performance or stability consequences. ** Affects: openldap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Enable UDP support (-DLDAP_CONNECTIONLESS) for Likewise-Open https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390579 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

It is fully reproductible with the steps I've descriped above. [Bug 277556] Re: should build kernel modules with dkms
Hi Craig, The vmtoolsd issue is a problem in the vmtoolsd source, not the package (although symlinking can help in the meantime as you've noticed). I'll fix it in the Tools source. -- should build kernel modules with dkms https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277556 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 277556] Re: should build kernel modules with dkms
Thanks, Marcelo! I believe I have found another problem. vmtoolsd does not work if the --background option is specified. # vmtoolsd -l --background /var/run/vmtoolsd.pid [Jun 22 18:14:42.984: ] [ warning] [vmtools] Hostinfo_Daemonize: Child could not exec /home/candrews/vmtoolsd, read 4, error 2. It appears vmtoolsd is looking for itself in the cwd, instead of where it is actually located.
Thanks for letting us know. In the meantime, you can work around that by using the absolute path to execute vmtoolsd with the --background option (e.g. /usr/bin/vmtoolsd --background ...).

You are remarkable - the addition of Jaunty packages to the PPA makes my life a whole lot easier. I just installed the new packages on one of the Jaunty servers I use, and it worked great. vmtoolsd started right up, and seems to work without a hassle. Looking through the package changelog, these appear to be the Ubuntu developer contacts you may have the best luck with: Devid Antonio Filoni d.fil...@ubuntu.com Dan Sheridan d...@adelard.com The ideal approach would be to get your patches in Debian. The debian maintainer for open-vm-tools is: Daniel Baumann dan...@debian.org There is a bug in debian requesting DKMS support at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=516251 Also, the #ubuntu-dev channel on freenode may be able to help you find a sponsor.
