[Bug 392532] Re: apache2.2-common: /etc/init.d/apache2 script is empty

Hi Calvin,

My test was done on Karmic too and still can't reproduce this bug. Why
do you have apache2-src installed? did you compile something? can you
also provide me the result of: ls -lh /etc/init.d/apache2

[Bug 393450] [NEW] pam_winbind Use incorrect value for password expiry calculation

2009-06-29 Thread Aldo Bortot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: winbind

Ubuntu desktop 9.04 Samba suite 3.3.2 Joined in a Windows Domain
I found a bug in pam_winbind.
There's an incorrect value in calculation of the password expiration.
The Samba team solved this (in bugzilla.samba.org number 6253) for samba 3.3
and 3.4
Is it possible to insert said patch into the Samba packages distributed with

[Bug 242956] Re: Bind9 (8.04) not returning 'ad' flag when dnssec is enabled

2009-06-29 Thread Hauke Lampe

The problem lies within the libc stub resolver. I patched mine, so it always

if DNSSEC validation succeeded.

Verbose explanations (one of my seldom public blog posts ;) and small patch
here:

[Bug 236640] Re: iSCSI install fails under hardy

2009-06-29 Thread Etienne Goyer
As I explained a couple months earlier (see comment 2), even if the path
to iscsi-iname is fixed, it still fail in the end. The installer goes
on just fine, but if you choose to configure a file system residing on
an iSCSI target to be mounted at boot time (not as the root file system,
just about any mount point), /etc/rcS.d/S30checkfs.sh will fail at boot
and drop to a maintenance shell.

This is because the iSCSI block device is not brought up on boot
correctly, and as such the file system residing on that iSCSI target
cannot be checked/mounted. For it to be so, there need to be a valid
node configuration file under /etc/iscsi/nodes/. This configuration
file is being generated just fine by the open-iscsi udeb in the
installer environment. However, it is *not* being copied to the root
file system of the installation (/target). There are two problems:

1. The post-installation script of the udeb (debian/open-iscsi-udeb
.finish-install in the source deb) is being installed in /lib/finish-
install.d/. I think this is supposed to be /usr/lib/finish-install.d/.

2. There is a bug in debian/open-iscsi-udeb.finish-install. It copy the
whole configuration directory with:

cp -a /etc/iscsi /target/etc/iscsi

Which mean we end up with the installer iscsi configuration directory as
/etc/iscsi/iscsi in the target, which is not what we want. I presume it
should really be:

cp -a /etc/iscsi /target/etc/

So that we have the configuration from the installer environment copied over to
the target properly.

The above problems where found on both hardy and jaunty.

Moreover, there seems to be a race condition at boot time where open-iscsi is
started before networking is ready, which also prevent the iSCSI block device
to be available when /etc/rcS.d/S30checkfs.sh is being run. I am still
investigating and will report a separate bug as appropriate.

Is your network printer set to "share"? That is a must. With ours the only
drawback was you cannot customize the print quality to a higher dpi. It prints

[Bug 393656] [NEW] postfix fails on boot with "fatal: could not find any active network interfaces"

2009-06-29 Thread a7x
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

Upon boot, postfix fails with the following in my /var/log/mail.log:

Jun 29 11:14:21 shoe postfix[2815]: fatal: could not find any active
network interfaces

Once the machine has booted, I can run "sudo /etc/init.d/postfix start"
manually and it works fine. I have a single wired connection with
static IP address. The boxes "Connect automatically" and "Available to
all users" are checked in System -> Preferences -> Network Connections.

I noticed that the /etc/rc?.d symlinks have it start at 20. The file
/etc/rcS.d/README says that networking isn't available until after 40,
although I think that only matters to the scripts in /etc/rcS.d. (If I
understand correctly, the scripts in rc2.d should run after all rcS.d
scripts are done.)

This problem does not exist on a second machine with a similar
configuration.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Could you provide the output of the following two commands:

 * ls -l /var/backups/

 * ls -l /var/backups/slapd-*/

It has not been uploaded. I'm still waiting for feedback that this works
correctly in an installed system before I upload this untested change.

You can try editing printers.conf with AuthInfoRequired none, then making it
immutable by sudo chattr +i printers.conf

[Bug 283811] Re: cups says "can't promp for authorization" when printing to my samba printer

2009-06-29 Thread noble
I tried the immutable attribute per the earlier suggestion but it still
only worked for the first print. I assumed that it changed the value in
memory even though it couldn't change the file.

[Bug 373999] Re: CIFS loops endlessly when remote host is down

2009-06-29 Thread ddcc
I've managed to semi-reproduce it again, although this time against a
Samba server. I mounted it using "sudo mount -t cifs
'\\192.168.1.130\Public' /mnt/temp" , and then while doing "cat
/dev/zero >> /mnt/temp/temp" in another terminal, I called "shutdown -h
-P now" through SSH on the Samba server. The terminal with "cat
/dev/zero >> /mnt/temp/temp" is now hanging, and now I call "sudo umount
/mnt/temp".

The only difference is that this time I can't get it to hang; it stops
on its own after a while. I'm going to keep messing with it though.

[Bug 373999] Re: CIFS loops endlessly when remote host is down

2009-06-29 Thread ddcc
I've tried it again, although this time by pulling out the remote
network cable instead of calling "shutdown -h -P now". CIFS takes a lot
longer to realize that the remote host is unreachable, and the system
does become a little slower, but not to the same degree as the original.

[Bug 373999] Re: CIFS loops endlessly when remote host is down

2009-06-29 Thread ddcc
I tried it one last time, this time pulling out the network cable on the
local end, and a trace log showed up. Note that the kernel is tainted
with the nvidia binary, however.

[Bug 373999] Re: CIFS loops endlessly when remote host is down

2009-06-29 Thread Thierry Carrez
The trace doesn't appear CIFS-specific.

As Steve French (CIFS maintainer in Linux kernel) explains in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/211631/comments/84,
we are in a corner case that can generate some timeouts, as the system
tries the best trade-off in dataloss/timeout/recovery-from-small-
outages. The bug here is if the repetition is without end, and iiuc you
cannot reproduce this anymore. What would be a regression would be if it
ever worked better in a previous release.

I'll mark it as Invalid for now, please reopen it (set it back to New)
if you can reproduce the "endless Write2" issue. I guess this would then
be re-filed under "linux" since it would most probably be an issue in
the CIFS layer in the kernel. Thanks !
