[Bug 343738] Re: vsftpd max username length too small

2009-08-24 Thread Trent Lloyd
Thierry - thanks for the response. Is it possible to reconsider it?
Because it's not like vsftpd has its own usernames it's using the
systems user database.. so essentially vsftpd doesn't allow existing
users to login that other software does - this happens commonly in web
hosting when usernames are the same as a domain name. 32 character
domain names are not uncommon.

If not, oh well - thanks for the response - much appreciated.

[Bug 362427] Re: Public key ssh auth doesn't work with my Encrypted Home Directory

2009-08-24 Thread Brendan Long
I had this same problem, but I'm not using encrypted home directories. I
did set my home directories permissions to 770 though. Moving the
authorized keys to /etc/ssh/%u/authorized_keys worked.

[Bug 343738] Re: vsftpd max username length too small

2009-08-24 Thread Kenny Millington
I'd just like to add that (as the original bug reporter) I agree with
Trent entirely. I can setup accounts (longer than 32 characters) that
work just fine with PAM (and etc...) yet vsftpd fails to authenticate
with them.

Although I can accept it's a somewhat grey area in this case between bug
and feature request...

Can it be taken into account that the fix is obviously safe, has been
applied by other distro's in their packages and even pulled into the
vsftpd codebase itself?

Thanks Thierry :-)

[Bug 407428] Re: sshd zombie processes and strange behavior after karmic upgrade

2009-08-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
FWIW, I see this as well. A /etc/init.d/ssh restart does clear
everything out and ssh is ok for a while. I noticed that nagios tends to
aggravate things (/usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ssh -4 ),
but not immediately after a restart. Eg, I had 883 zombies a moment ago,
then I did restart (which cleared them all out), and now I can't trigger
it immediately. :(

Oops. I deleted smb.conf myself some time ago. Probably this bug report
can be closed then.

[Bug 343738] Re: vsftpd max username length too small

2009-08-24 Thread Kenny Millington
@Mathias:

You make an excellent point. Oversight on my part not realising I'd only
prepared a jaunty diff and not a hardy one for SRU.

I've re-based the jaunty diff against hardy and attached it to the bug
(as well as pushing it to my PPA for testing purposes).

[Bug 343738] Re: vsftpd max username length too small

2009-08-24 Thread Mathias Gug
Patch seems obvious enough. Accepting for hardy.

Next step is to prepare a proper SRU report:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure

Update the bug report description and make sure it contains the
following information:

   1. A statement explaining the impact of the bug on users and justification
for backporting the fix to the stable release
   2. An explanation of how the bug has been addressed in the development
branch, including the relevant version numbers of packages modified in order to
implement the fix.
   3. A minimal patch applicable to the stable version of the package. If
preparing a patch is likely to be time-consuming, it may be preferable to get a
general approval from the SRU team first.
   4. Detailed instructions how to reproduce the bug. These should allow
someone who is not familiar with the affected package to reproduce the bug and
verify that the updated package fixes the problem. Please mark this with a line
"TEST CASE:".
   5. A discussion of the regression potential of the patch and how users could
get inadvertently affected.

   Status: New

[Bug 414224] Re: Can not install akonadi-server dependency mysql-server-core-5.0 with mysql-server-5.1

2009-08-24 Thread Russ Brown
At this point I appear to be having the exact opposite problem: akonadi-
server is forcing the install of mysql-server-core-5.1, which is
preventing me from installing mysql-server-5.0, which is what I actually
want to be able to use.

It seems to me that whatever akonadi-server needs, it shoudln't conflict
with what database server the user wants to install.

[Bug 369737] Re: preg_replace_callback segfaults

2009-08-24 Thread fiasco
This is happening to me, I found this bug in the PEAR mediawiki filter. the
code from there is:
wiki->source = preg_replace_callback(
$this->regex,
array(&$this, 'process'),
$this->wiki->source
);
error_log("Returning parse");
}
?>

Potential things to look at: the regex is getting confused? I'm also
using macrons in my content.

[Bug 416093] [NEW] karmic hangs during booting

2009-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

after upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic alpha4 the boot process hangs. I
am able to see the usplash, the bar progress until is almost finished
and then the system switch to a terminal-like screen (that give details
of the booting process). The two last sentences are (and the system
hangs)

Running DKMS autoinstallation service for kernel 2.6.31.6-generic [OK]
Starting Samba demon. (something similar)

At fist I believe the problem was samba so I uninstall it (using ALT-F2
i was able get access to a terminal), I reboot and get this message (and
the system hangs)

Running DKMS autoinstallation service for kernel 2.6.31.6-generic [OK]
Starting Winbid  demon. (something similar)

A workaround is boot in recovery mode, then choose netroot. exit netroot and
select resume normal mode.

Note: when the systems hangs I wait only for couple of minutes and then
reboot. (the keyboard is fully responsive may be if i wait a couple of
minutes more the system could continue to boot, I will let you know)

Obviously i don´t get any idea about the soruce of this problem or why
the workaround works...

I have a vostro 1400, Intel 965 GMA and I´m running the amd64 version.

[Bug 407428] Re: sshd zombie processes and strange behavior after karmic upgrade

2009-08-24 Thread Wisefox
Don't know the developer already get the root cause or not. I can
provide some clue deeper into this issue.

When Karmic starts the ssh and other several services(udevd,dhcp etc.), it uses
a wrong Sigmask set for the program:
Check the Sigblk for sshd:
$ cat /proc/`pidof sshd| awk '{print $1}'`/status | grep Sig
SigQ:   4/16297
SigPnd:
SigBlk: fffe7ffb9eff # should be all zero
SigIgn:
SigCgt: 000180006000

All child forked by sshd will succeed the same SigBlk from sshd. And the Ctrl +
C token uses the SIGINT(2) to interrupt the program. But it's blocked by the
program. That's the cause of sshd zombie and Ctrl + C problem.
I provide two method to get sshd back to normal.
1). On that machine(physical), use the /etc/init.d/ssh stop/start to restart
ssh to make it use the right mask.
2). Write a little wrapper program to restart the ssh.
