I can confirm this problem.  On my Kubuntu Jaunty box:

/data/multimedia
/data/multimedia/mp3
/data/mp3 < symlink to /data/multimedia/mp3


On Windows, when I access the files under /data/mp3, they are all read-only. No 
write permissions at all.

But when I access those same files using /data/multimedia/mp3, they are
read/write.

For example, when I use the Network Neighborhood:
* /data/multimedia/mp3/readme.txt is read/write.
* /data/mp3/readme.txt is read-only.

There's something about following a symlink that makes the files read-
only.


All files under /data/multimedia/mp3 have permissions rw-rw-r and all
directories have permissions rwxrwxr-x. Everything has ownership p:users
(p is my username and is a member of users).

Here is the relevant sections of smb.conf:


[data]
comment = Public read/write data directory.
path = /data
read only = no
public = yes

[mp3]
comment = Public read/write mp3 directory.
path = /data/mp3
read only = no
writable = yes
follow symlinks = yes
wide links = yes
public = yes


One interesting thing I've noticed in my log files about trying to write to 
share mp3:


[2009/10/09 20:48:43, 0] param/loadparm.c: process_usershare_file(8327)
process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/mp failed. No such 
file or directory


The "3" in "mp3" seems to have been cut off. I wonder if that's relevant?

The problem is that the connection from the NC to Walrus is being
successfully opened, but is being timed out on the server side after two
minutes if no data is written to the wire (which is the case when the
large image is being decrypted/cached).  We've increased the retry count
in the NC to 10 retries (each at most lasting no more than 2 minutes ==
20 minutes max), which should allow enough time for images (~10GB) to be
processed even on slow machines.

Fixed in Eucalyptus revision 920.

[Bug 227615] Re: mysql failing to start due to permission errors

What I did was flushing privileges after moving to another server, then my new 
root password changed to this from old server but i didnt know that and i did 
remove mysql-server and reinstall it again hoping to not use flush privileges 
again. This caused so horrible-many-hours-wasting problem. BUG REPORT!!!
apt-get remove --purge mysql-server

It was a few problems while reinstalling mysql-server
1. /var/lib/dpkg/info/mysql-server-5.0.postinst: line 143: 
/etc/mysql/conf.d/old_passwords.cnf: No such file or directory
2. Something like /lib/modules/apparmor could not be found
3. Something like /lib/modules/2.6.28***/** coun't be found because the 
directory 2.6.28 wasnt existed

Some log (not mine):

/etc/init.d/mysql start
(it was fail before)

There isn't a default LDAP directory admin password anymore. Instead the
cn=config tree is accessible when connecting as root using the SASL

Please rest assured I understand very well all of the consequences of
using one approach or the other, and opt to use one or the other
depending on specific needs.  In fact, if you look through the code
you'll see that in some cases subprocess was used.

In the case at hand I could very well have avoided it, but the fact
that:

 1) it was safe;
 2) it was a one liner;
 3) It is rarely executed; and
 4) I had very little time to implement the system

Guided me towards using this approach.

Also note that it's easy for people to get Subprocess wrong.  We should
probably implement a wrapper which implements the equivalent of
"getstatusoutput()" in a safe way.

In your example above, you actually got it pretty much right.  One
detail I'd change on it is that you pipe the error output and the
standard output into different file descriptors.  This means that if the
command run outputs error messages interleaved with normal output, the
normal output and the error output will be disjoint, and so will be hard
to interpret in a log or in the stdout.   The proper way would be to use
the option stderr=subprocess.STDOUT, so that the error can be observed
at the correct places.

Either way, I agree with you, it's a good practice to use subprocess.
Let's have more of it.

That said, i added code for it.  I've also put this into a branch so it
at least can be somewhat controlled.

I ran all of these.

After reboot, I got a few Reset messages in cloud-output.log, like this:
11:21:56  WARN DatabaseUtil  | -> Resetting: 
z8kfsx84g4e6c2if50wl|6e905272

But after clearing the logs, and warm restart of eucalyptus, port 8443
came up, my availability zones were shown, and there are no Reset or
DEAD messages in the logs.

I would like to ask for a FFE exception for samba 3.4.2 for karmic. The
known bug that it fixes are:

445595 - smbclient fails with SMBecho failed. Maybe server has closed the 
connection.
397203 - Enable idmap_ldap support in winbind (missing ldap.so)

It also probably fix some other bugs that I am not aware about.

I have attached the following for your review:

- Changelog of all the upstream changes between 3.4.0 and 3.4.2
- A running session of smbclient with 3.4.2
- The buildlogs done locally.
- The debdiff between 3.4.0 and 3.4.2

I forgot that i used 'ubuntu-vm-builder kvm jaunty' not

OpenVPN installed from standard repositories (server --- Debian stable
amd64, client --- Ubuntu Karmic i386 beta). VPN private network is
chosen to be 10.7.0.0/24. Conf files created according to our needs, but
are pretty standard, IMO, except for MSS fix maybe. This particular test
was run from Karmic beta virtual machine (host is Jaunty amd64 VBox
3.0.8; same local network as server; guest networking using private
10.0.2.* and NAT). Not sure what else as steps to create setup. Please
let me know if you need anything in particular.

Looking at the route.c I can see that there was quite some reshuffling
in if/else logic for route add/del comparing 2.1~rc11 (jaunty) and
2.1~rc19 (karmic beta).

No, I don't see consolekit consuming lots of memory. That said, I can
see some consolekit zombies:

Do "top" on your server and see if consolekit something occupies 100%
of CPU.

It could also be related to avahi-daemon.

You can stop avahi daemon

sudo /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon stop

and then you can ssh again and see if it is faster.

is working perfectly, so I see no point in risking a regression here for
