[Bug 456808] Re: Karmic-Networking (SAMBA) just does not work, even with detailed attention.
#4 Re:Winbind, because somewhere it was recommended to have installed. winbind is a component of the Samba suite of programs that solves the unified logon problem. Winbind uses a UNIX implementation of Microsoft RPC calls, Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAMs), and the name service switch (NSS) to allow Windows NT domain users to appear and operate as UNIX users on a UNIX machine I fail to see how winbind can help in your scenario (since you don't use a Windows domain) and I can certainly imagine how it can lead you to failure if badly configured. Please try with just samba installed, and not winbind. #5 What does smb://IP of a remote PC/sharename return ? #6 2. it's /var/log/samba/log.nmbd. And we need those of the remote PC, the one that you're trying to connect to and fail. I'm still trying to figure out what exact bug you're reporting here, apart from general failure to configure SMB networking on your machines, and how much simpler this should be (which is not a bug). I suppose it's the can't access remote PC via smb:// in Nautilus, while I can access it just fine locally. [Bug 456238] Re: empty message-id, no date in Evolution MUA
The explanation for this issue is in Postfix 2.6.5's release notes (http://www.sfr- fresh.com/unix/misc/postfix-2.6.5.tar.gz:a/postfix-2.6.5/RELEASE_NOTES): 240 [Incompat 20090330] Postfix now adds (Resent-) From:, Date:, 241 Message-ID: or To: headers only when clients match 242 $local_header_rewrite_clients. [Bug 458163] Re: [regression] euca_rootwrap fixes broke eucalyptus power management (powerwake)
I think this is pretty critical, as this functionality has been working for almost all of Karmic. And it was featured rather prominently in Mark's Karmic announcement: * https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-announce/2009-February/000536.html A savvy Koala knows that the best way to conserve energy is to go to sleep, and these days even servers can suspend and resume, so imagine if we could make it possible to build a cloud computing facility that drops its energy use virtually to zero by napping in the midday heat, and waking up when there's work to be done. No need to drink at the energy fountain when there's nothing going on. If we get all of this right, our Koala will help take the edge off the bear market. -- [regression] euca_rootwrap fixes broke eucalyptus power management (powerwake) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/458163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 458211] [NEW] eucalyptus.conf is confusing and underdocumented
Public bug reported: The configuration file /etc/eucalyptus/eucalyptus.conf, used by all Eucalyptus services (-cloud, -cc, -nc, etc) is very confusing and practically undocumented. The inline comments are helpful, but they do not provide enough context for the administrator to decide which configuration directive are relevant to his specific setup. For example, let's say a system administrator is configuring a machine running only the Walrus service, to be registered with a CLC running on another machine. Is it relevant for him to define VNET_PRIVINTERFACE directive and, if so, what value should he use? And so on for pretty much all directives. At the very least, a eucalyptus.conf man page explaining in which context each directive are relevant would desirable. Better yet would be to break eucalyptus.conf in service-specific configuration file that could be documented separately, either inline or in a man page. ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Status: New ** Changed in: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- eucalyptus.conf is confusing and underdocumented https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/458211 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 348633] Re: Fails to boot from CD after reboot: CDROM boot failure code: 0003
I think this is really a simple matter of which type of cdrom is being emulated by kvm. In my experience, there are at least two behaviors of CDroms that have their tray ejected on boot. a.) pull in the tray (eject -t) which would have a cd in it, and then would be available for the bios boot selector. This is typical behavior of desktop machines. b.) do not pull in the tray , leave out, and thus theres no CD available to boot. My thinkpad has this type of CD, the cdrom is not capable of eject -t. Ie: | $ eject -t /dev/cdrom | eject: CD-ROM tray close command failed: Input/output error KVM implements 'b'. It appears that the bug opener expects 'a'. -- Fails to boot from CD after reboot: CDROM boot failure code: 0003 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 458163] Re: [regression] euca_rootwrap fixes affected eucalyptus power management (powerwake)
A bit more explanation... Before euca_rootwrap was rewritten: * powerwake ran as root:root * thus, powerwake had write access to /var/cache/powerwake/ethers * and powerwake worked just fine After euca_rootwrap was rewritten: * powerwake was whitelisted, but wasn't given root access * now, powerwake runs as eucalyptus:eucalyptus * which is fine to send the magic WoL packet * however, the cache file is not writable * and thus, powerwake now itself throws an exception As stated above, we can fix this entirely in powerwake with a trivial fix, testing W_OK on /var/cache/powerwake/ethers. :-Dustin -- [regression] euca_rootwrap fixes affected eucalyptus power management (powerwake) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/458163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 458163] Re: [regression] euca_rootwrap fixes affected eucalyptus power management (powerwake)
If we have to document around this, it can be fixed with a configuration change in /etc/eucalyptus/wrappers.conf. Currently, there is an entry for: powerwake /usr/bin/powerwake However, it's not given root privilege. To adjust this, change that line to: powerwake /usr/bin/powerwake 0 :-Dustin -- [regression] euca_rootwrap fixes affected eucalyptus power management (powerwake) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/458163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
