[Bug 462626] Re: [SRU] [karmic] Authentication failure from Windows 7 when domain joined.

2009-10-28 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: samba

When authenticating to a domain joined samba server with NTLMv2 from a
Windows 7 client, a valid password is being denied. The same request
succeeded with NTLMv1. The key to this repro is accessing the server
via a hostname so Windows 7 adds a SPN to the target information section
  of the NTLMv2 Response.

[Bug 459101] Re: Relay denied from eucalyptus registration emails - source address is wrong.

2009-10-28 Thread Steve Langasek
Documented at
:

When a new user is created in the UEC admin interface, an email is sent
to the user to confirm the registration. A bug in the smtp
configuration of UEC prevents the Cloud Controller from accepting and
forwarding the confirmation email to the end user. As a workaround,
edit the postfix configuration file {{{/etc/postfix/main.cf}}} on the

{{{

2009-10-28 Thread Steve Langasek

On startup a UEC system may not process requests correctly, for instance

eucalyptus" after boot. (444352)

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2009-10-28 Thread James
"NM 0.8 does not bring down ethernet connections on exit anymore. I
don't think we will be able to something similar for wifi soon. Is that
good enough for this bug?"

No. I have a use case of wanting to pack up my laptop up quickly after
using wireless at a client's office where I have to mount a remote
Windows filesystem using Samba. Having your laptop not suspend or
shutdown (or do it such a bad way it's not funny) isn't very good for my
system or for desktop linux (picture a Windows using client interested
in desktop linux and watching a laptop doing this shutdown dance).

What's the reason for not being able to keep wireless up until after
network filesystems are unmounted ?

[Bug 459101] Re: Relay denied from eucalyptus registration emails - source address is wrong.

2009-10-28 Thread Mathias Gug
** Description changed:

Eucalyptus sends registration emails via SMTP to localhost.
Unfortunately it doesn't set the source IP address to one of the
localhost addresses. Instead it uses the IP address of an ethernet

[Bug 461156] Re: User data is not parsed correctly by Eucalyptus in some cases

2009-10-28 Thread Mathias Gug
** Description changed:

User data supplied using "euca-run-instances --user-data-file" is not decoded
before being presented to the instance.
Inside the instance, "curl http://169.254.169.254/latest/user-data"; should
fetch the decoded user data, whereas eucalyptus will return a base64 and url
encoded string. This breaks ec2-run-user-data from the ec2-init package,
rendering instance configuration using the user-data mechanism unusable.

  EC2 documentation at
http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSEC2/2007-03-01/DeveloperGuide/AESDG-chapter-instancedata.html
states that EC2 will return decoded data (i don't have a ec2 account so i
can't confirm this):
"The user data must be base64-encoded before being submitted to the API. The
API command-line tools perform the base64-encoding for you. The data will be
base64 decoded before being presented to the instance."

  =
  Karmic release notes:

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2009-10-28 Thread Scaine
Confirmed here too. I've tried all the solutions listed previously to
resolve this issue in Karmic and Wireless, but I always experience a
hang on shutdown. The only "workaround" (not really) I've found so far
is to add the "users" option to my /etc/fstab entry for my cifs share,
then manually unmount the volume before shutting down / restarting the
laptop.

Although the umountcifs script still works when run manually, I've tried
linking to just about every position in /etc/rc0.d (and /etc/rc6.d) with
no success. A linked thread here also suggests putting umountcifs in
/etc/gdm/Postsession/default - all that seems to do is break the exit
usplash (or whatever that's called now - the ubunut logo thing that
fades away) - but the hang persists.

Is there perhaps some kind of upstart configuration that needs to be
modfied in Karmic to emulate the K0umountcifs behaviour?

[Bug 462172] Re: samba "Too many files are currently in use."

2009-10-28 Thread Frank
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: samba

When copying a directory with a good amount of files (> 1,000) to a
Samba share from a Windows 7 client, I get the error "Too many files are
currently in use.". This only happens on Ubuntu Server 9.10 (Samba
3.4.0) . I have tested on Ubuntu 9.04 (Samba 3.2.0) and the copy was
  successful.

While copying the files, I ran watch 'sudo lsof | grep smb | wc -l' and
noticed that whenever the number of files open reaches somewhere between
1,200 and 1,300 I receive the error. If I wait a couple of seconds, the
- number of open files drop down significantly and I am able to choose
+ number of files open drop down significantly and I am able to choose
"Try Again" on the error dialog, but once the number of files open
climbs back up, the error reappears.

I am filling this as a bug because the copying of files works on a fresh
install of 9.04, but fails on 9.10.

[Bug 317401] Re: Wrong documentation for TLSCipherSuite

2009-10-28 Thread nutznboltz
Jaunty uses a newer libgnutls option. The slapd.conf man page (and
slapd-conf man page) still says you can find cipher names for
TLSCipherSuite (and olcTLSCipherSuite) by running "gnutls-cli -l" but
names output by that command are not accepted as options for
TLSCipherSuite. This is a bug in the documentation.

If you look through the libgnutls source code (file
gnutls26-2.4.2/lib/gnutls_priority.c function gnutls_priority_init() )
reveals option names.

As an example, this syntax is accepted by slapd if you use slapd.conf on
Jaunty:

TLSCipherSuite SECURE256:SECURE128

but OpenLDAP on Hardy could use

TLSCipherSuite TLS_RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:TLS_RSA_ARCFOUR_MD5

and now slapd on Jaunty will not start if you try that despite what the
manual page says about TLSCipherSuite accepting ciphers that "gnutls-cli
-l" outputs.

Would be nice. Regression testing is very important, and if the

[Bug 444352] Re: DB deadlock on reboot prevents UEC from working, temporarily

2009-10-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
** Description changed:

  Installed 20091006, works alright.
Rebooted the cloud/cluster controller at 09:46
Started an instance (i-45410877) at 09:48:06
The instance stayed at pending (without an IP address assigned), then
terminated.
cloud-output.log shows an apparent DB deadlock condition.

Next one started couldn't get a reservation ("Trying to allocate an address
which is already pending")
  Next one started worked.

See cloud-output.log that shows the first two tries. Let me know if you
  need more.

  Karmic release notes:

UEC might refuse to serve the first requests received after boot

- After a UEC boot the system may not answer correctly returning "503
- Forbidden" errors to client requests. This is cause by a database
- deadlock condition which is automatically cleared after some retries. To
- workaround this issue you can restart eucalyptus after boot on the
- cluster controller by running "sudo restart eucalyptus" (444352).

[Bug 461156] Re: User data is not parsed correctly by Eucalyptus in some cases

2009-10-28 Thread Mathias Gug
To fix this issue an SRU is needed for karmic:

1. fix euca-run-instances to only encode user-data once to mimic what
ec2-run-instances does
2. fix eucalyptus soap|rest interface to not fail when user-data is sent by
euca-run-instances.

** Description changed:

User data supplied using "euca-run-instances --user-data-file" is not decoded
before being presented to the instance.
Inside the instance, "curl http://169.254.169.254/latest/user-data"; should
fetch the decoded user data, whereas eucalyptus will return a base64 and url
encoded string. This breaks ec2-run-user-data from the ec2-init package,
rendering instance configuration using the user-data mechanism unusable.

  EC2 documentation at
http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSEC2/2007-03-01/DeveloperGuide/AESDG-chapter-instancedata.html
states that EC2 will return decoded data (i don't have a ec2 account so i
can't confirm this):
"The user data must be base64-encoded before being submitted to the API. The
API command-line tools perform the base64-encoding for you. The data will be
base64 decoded before being presented to the instance."
+
+ =
+ Karmic release notes:
+
+ user-data not usable by guest instances

+ base64 encoding. Because of this bug ec2-init is unable make use of

[Bug 458521] Re: kvm crash when using virtio for network, hardy guest

2009-10-28 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Okay, I can reproduce this very easily by saturating the guest's
INCOMING network connection, with:

u...@guest$ nc -lp 1234 > /dev/null

and

u...@host$ cat /dev/urandom | nc -w 3 guest_ip 1234

In less than a second of sending, the vm crashes with:
  virtio-net truncating packet

Note that I have not reproduced the problem saturating the guest's
OUTGOING network.

I have uploaded a full-updated Ubuntu 8.04.3 (Hardy) image
(user=ubuntu,pw=ubuntu) that I'm using to reproduce this at:

The asm2 upload changes packaging a lot, removes old changelogs, and has

thanks for these tests and feedback.
reading back the thread, blazer_usb in the trunk is working.
the fact is that there were changes here, but no version bump (still
0.03) which led to confusion here.

the attached patch should fix this issue.

[Bug 458521] Re: kvm crash when using virtio for network, hardy guest

2009-10-28 Thread Dustin Kirkland
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: kvm

I was running a kvm host with 5 virtual machines using jaunty. 1 running
centos 5.4, 3 running karmic and 1 running hardy.

I upgraded the host to karmic to test it and one of my virtual
machines(the vm with hardy) crashs after some seconds of boot! I stack
traced the kvm process and found a "virtio-net truncating packet" before
  process crash.

No error in any log file. The VM just crash.

I changed the model of network interface(the disk is still virtio) in
VM.xml to rtl8139, redefined and started. The problem goes away.

I don't know if it's a kvm bug or libvirt(regarding the bridge network)
bug but definitely is a bug. All other VMs are running OK with virtio
  for both network and disk.

[Bug 461528] Re: apparmor blocks migration

2009-10-28 Thread Dmitry Ljautov
As for hostnames it works perfectly for jaunty, not for karmic.

In Jaunty live migration worked with:
listen_tls = 0
listen_tcp = 1
auth_tcp = "none"
in /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf

Worked in Jaunty:
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node1/system migrate --live vm1
qemu+tcp://node2/system

hostnames node1 and node2 should be in /etc/hosts or setuped any other way.
vm1 guest is in running state.

Here is a few changes i made in profiles to test migration in karmic.
To bind libvirtd (libvirtd_opts should be with -l key to
/etc/default/libvirt-bin) add to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd:
  network inet dgram,
  network inet6 stream,
  network inet6 dgram,

I also added my nfs share to save and restore domains out of $home in
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu:
  /mnt/nfs/save/** rw,

Worked in karmic:
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node1/system save vm1 /mnt/nfs/save/vm1
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node1/system restore /mnt/nfs/save/vm1
I suggest there's enough permissions for migration. or not?

Also tried migration under karmic, too:
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node1/system migrate --live vm1
qemu+tcp://node2/system
Tried to test when vm1 guest is in running state (in suspended state the same
result).
It seems to pass right, but guest hangs after migration (but in virsh list it
correctly shows it running on destination host after migration even if vm1 was
suspended before migration). But if i suspend and resume guest it became
working like if guest was paused before migration:

# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node2/system suspend vm1
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node2/system resume vm1

But such live migration not a _live_ migration as it should be for
running vm1 guest. There's a non-zero downtime between suspend and
resume. :(

I think problem is not only in apparmor profilies (tried to turn off at all).
Any ideas?

PS. Sorry for terrible English.

[Bug 444352] Re: DB deadlock on reboot prevents UEC from working, temporarily

[Bug 462749] [NEW] vsftpd-2.2.0 (currently in karmic) is affected by pasv_address regression

2009-10-28 Thread up-whatever
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vsftpd

vsftpd 2.2.0 kills the connection after client sends PASV, when using
"pasv_address" in vsftpd.conf.
http://vsftpd.beasts.org/ lists this as a crash regression and i can confirm
that vsftpd 2.2.1 fixes the problem for me.

The pasv_address setting is important for running vsftpd behind NAT,
therefore i think the vsftpd_2.2.0-1ubuntu1 package in karmic should be
updated.

[Bug 406466] Re: 2.6.31 - Can't see files in CIFS-mounted directories

2009-10-28 Thread tomatogoatee
I'm pretty sure the problem I'm having is related to this bug, so I'll
throw in my two cents.

When I connect to a windows share on my Jaunty box, I use:
sudo mount -t cifs -o username=xxx,password=yyy //192.168.xxx.xxx/share
/mnt/share
and I'm able to connect, read, write and delete files just fine without using
sudo.

When I do the same on my Karmic box, it connects and I can read files
without issue. However, I cannot edit, write or delete anything without
being root or sudo.

[Bug 458904] Re: When installing a node, euca_find_cluster fails to locate the cluster controller if instances are running

2009-10-28 Thread Mathias Gug
Release notes:

Extending an existing Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud may fail during node
controller installation started from the ISO with the "Install Ubuntu
Enterprise Cloud" option. The Node installation fails with an error
message stating that the preseed file cannot be downloaded from the
Cluster Controller as the wrong IP address is used to connect to the
Cluster Controller.

The workaround is to conduct a standard package installation rather than
an ISO installation: Install a default Karmic server and then install
the eucalyptus-nc package. Additionally the system's primary ethernet
interface needs to be configured as a bridge and the Cloud Controller's
eucalyptus user's public ssh key needs to be copied into the Node
Controller's eucalyptus user's authorized_keys file. More detailed steps
can be found in the UEC Package Install tutorial, Step 3 at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEC/PackageInstall.

2009-10-28 Thread Chuck Short
Statement of Impact:

Karmic shipped with a bug that prevents Windows 7 clients from
authenticating against a Windows Domain. More information can be found
at:

https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6680

How this bug has been addressed:

This bug has been fixed in samba 3.4.1 and I have back ported the fix to
3.4.0. I have attached the patch which fixes this issue.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Install samba
2. Install Windows 7
3. Have it join a windows domain

If you have any questions please let me know.

[Bug 458904] Re: When installing a node, euca_find_cluster fails to locate the cluster controller if instances are running

2009-10-28 Thread Mathias Gug
Shipping with publish-addresses=no won't fix the problem:
euca_find_cluster will not be able resolve the IP address of the CC at
all.

To confirm thierry's comment #11, I've tested the upstart job and it
failed. avahi-publish refuses to start since the CC IP is already
resolve to another name via avahi-daemon.
