[Bug 484310] Re: XP guest bluescreens on startup

2009-11-20 Thread Andy Ruddock
Performing a fresh install. I installed from a CD containing XP SP2, then
applied SP3, then applied all updates via Windows Update.
Then I installed Microsoft Security Essentials - the free anti-virus from
Microsoft, at this point the error appeared.
All attempts to rectify the situation failed (1. boot into safe mode,
add-remove programs, get warning that security essentials cannot be uninstalled
from within safe mode. 2. restore to a previous system restoration point, same
error on reboot. 3. uninstall SP3, same error on reboot.)

[Bug 484734] Re: User names searches are case insensitive; group membership lookups case sensitive

2009-11-20 Thread Roel van Os
If "fixed" means "install a fork" (libnss-ldapd), I agree. Perhaps
libnss-ldapd should be moved from universe to main in favour of libnss-
ldap.

[Bug 485760] [NEW] Need to upgrade integrated zip module

2009-11-20 Thread mbrancalion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

Zip module ( version 1.8.11), found in the current php package in karmic
(php5-common, 5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu6.1), should be upgraded to the
latest version (1.10.2, as found in http://pecl.php.net/package-
changelog.php?package=zip&release=1.10.2).

The actual zip module include generates a corrupted zip file, from within php
script. Openoffice, for example, cannot open a .odt file created by a php
script using this zip extension.
If i decompress the created file, and compress again with "zip" in bash, the
odt document gets created in a correct way.
I'm attaching an example of incorrectly created file.

As far as i know, this problem didn't exist in previous versions of the
ubuntu php package.

(A quick solution would be to recompile php without the integrated zip
module.. but i'm trying to avoid it).

Any solution, apart ricompilation (by ubuntu's staff) of the entire package
with the update zip ? ...
Thanks.

Marco Brancalion.

[Bug 485766] [NEW] lack of support for Fintek F71889F

2009-11-20 Thread Aliaksandr Dzeshchanka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lm-sensors

I've just upgraded to new MSI motherboard with Fintek F71889F IO chip
and there is no way to get the CPU temperatures. A quick look to google
says me that there is two main reasons for it:

1. Old lm-sensors package in Ubuntu 9.10, current release is 3.1.1 and the
Ubuntu shipped one is 3.0.2 or so. This problem is easy to fix but there is
2. Old f71882fg module in kernel/hwmon. There is a patch
http://ring.nict.go.jp/archives/linux/kernel.org/kernel/people/jdelvare/linux-2.6/jdelvare-hwmon/hwmon-f71882fg-04-add-f71889fg-support.patch
for adding support f71889f to existing f71882fg code, I don't know, is there
plans to implement it to main kernel code.

So, the question is, is it possible to apply this patch for the next
Ubuntu 9.10 kernel update?

[Bug 485899] [NEW] pwmconfig generates a blank values /etc/fancontrol

2009-11-20 Thread Kurt Kraut
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lm-sensors

I'm trying to use pwmconfig and here is the output:

### BEGINING OF PASTE ###

r...@ktk7:~# pwmconfig
This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm)
controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on
your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm
circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm.

We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls.
The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed
after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you
physically verify that the fans have been to full speed
after the program has completed.

Found the following devices:
   hwmon0/device is it8718
   hwmon1/device is coretemp
   hwmon2/device is coretemp

Found the following PWM controls:
   hwmon0/device/pwm1
   hwmon0/device/pwm2

Found the following fan sensors:

   hwmon0/device/fan2_input current speed: 2227 RPM
   hwmon0/device/fan3_input current speed: 0 ... skipping!

Warning!!! This program will stop your fans, one at a time,
for approximately 5 seconds each!!!
This may cause your processor temperature to rise!!!
If you do not want to do this hit control-C now!!!
Hit return to continue:

No correlations were detected.
There is either no fan connected to the output of hwmon0/device/pwm1,
or the connected fan has no rpm-signal connected to one of
the tested fan sensors. (Note: not all motherboards have
the pwm outputs connected to the fan connectors,

Testing is complete.
Please verify that all fans have returned to their normal speed.

The fancontrol script can automatically respond to temperature changes
of your system by changing fanspeeds.
Do you want to set up its configuration file now (y)?
What should be the path to your fancontrol config file (/etc/fancontrol)?

Select fan output to configure, or other action:
1) hwmon0/device/pwm3 3) Change INTERVAL 5) Save and quit
2) hwmon0/device/pwm2 4) Just quit 6) Show configuration
select (1-n): 5

I though everything was okay when I checked /etc/fancontrol:

So pwmconfig is generating a blank values /etc/fancontrol, what is very
unexpected. After running pwmconfig it left me with all fans speeding in
max speed. I belive this is a bug.

[Bug 486128] [NEW] euca2ools: Requires more environment variables than EC2 AMI tools

2009-11-20 Thread Eric Hammond
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: euca2ools

As I understand it, one of the goals in Ubuntu is for euca2ools to be a
drop in replacement for Amazon's EC2 AMI (and API) command line tools.

The following are differences where I noticed that I had to set
additional environment variables for euca2ools to function properly.

- euca-upload-bundle requires setting S3_URL instead of just defaulting
to https://s3.amazonaws.com as ec2-upload-bundle does.

- euca-register requires setting $EC2_URL instead of defaulting to
https://ec2.amazonaws.com as ec2-register does.

- euca-register requires setting $EC2_ACCESS_KEY and $EC2_SECRET_KEY
instead of also checking $AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and
$AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY_ID as ec2-register does.
