I'm trying to use a samba share via CIFS and am encountering problems
when trying to copy or move files onto the share. If I create a file
directly on the share it works as expected (using my umask for
permissions) but copying or moving result in errors. To reproduce:

This looks _a lot_ like (and might be a duplicate/dependent on) debian
bug 532153 ("cifs reports EACCES instead of EOPNOTSUPP for acls"
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=532153). It looks like
that bug is still open though and I'm not sure what the progress is or
if there is a workaround in the mean time.
Neither my server or client have ACLs on their filesystem. One maybe
relevent note is that mounting the same share from OS X and moving files
onto it works as expected with permissions being preserved. OS X has a
concept of ACLs on by default.

Hi Jonathan, Thank you for the detailed email. While I agree with what you have said I still think that you have missed something: *New users*. The first time I installed Hardy server I was happy to see the easy selection of a LAMP server and decided to leave the MySQL root password blank so that I would not need to remember or document it. If I needed to use MySQL later I presumed that I could assign the root password when required. But when prompted a second time it made me think that I had made a mistake. When prompted a 3rd time I thought either I was doing something wrong or the installer had a bug. I was, quite frankly, surprised to see that it is the same in Lucid. If you put in a password the first time then it does not ask again. Would it not be better to just prompt with an 'are you sure' the first time you leave it blank and then remember that the blank password is what the user wants? With further thought I agree with you that adding further granularity to the tasksel list is not a good idea. I should not have even suggested that! By the way, what I have been doing for repeated installs, is set up one server, install all updates then add a whole lot of extra stuff using apt-get install, I also set up my own application programs and scripts, and then simply clone the whole drive with dd rather that starting from scratch. It is a lot faster. So for practical purposes I am very happy with the installer as it is. I am just trying to help and will continue to look for things that I believe should be fixed or improved. I want others can get as much benefit from Ubuntu as I do. In 9.10, /usr/bin/kvm links to /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 which requres the -enable-kvm flag to use hardware virtualization acceleration. libvirt does not supply this flag. I've been able to start up all domains consistently on each boot of the host OS, by changing the parameters of the partition the host OS is installed on. I've forced a check of this filesystem on each system boot, and all domains are running consistently after the host is booted. What I found out is: there's no x64 driver for both AC'97 and ES1370 for Windows. 64bit Chipsets would have no AC'97, so there is only the Realtek driver which doesn't work well. And ES1370 is a very, very old audio chip which is probably only supported for legacy reasons but only in the 32bit versions of Windows. In the link from comment #4, the 32bit version of Windows was used. See http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/5332 which is essentially the same problem for VirtualBox.
