I think you are refering to the "Host" header in HTTP as a way of co- locating multiple services. In the context of the current Eucalyptus system this isn't possible to support without the use of the DNS service. For example, virtual bucket hosting in S3 already works this way when DNS is enabled and configured correctly (e.g., http://bucket_name.eucalyptus_domain_name/). Public bug reported: Eucalyptus web services are rooted differently to Amazons and this forces more complex configuration for users and third part developers. Specifically, the amazon EC2 api is at /, likewise the S3 api. For Eucalyptus it is at /services/Eucalyptus and /services/Walrus. The actual API urls under these base paths are identical, and discrete (I think, may need to double check): its possible to map urls such that both web services are rooted at /, and do not conflict with each other. As per the port 80 bug this should be possible via apache rules combined with eucalyptus knowing that it is being accessed at /. Public bug reported: The amazonaws.com web services are supplied on port 80 (and 443, see my separate bug for that); UEC installs on port 8773. This is awkward - its less likely to be already available through a firewall. It should be possible to provide an apache url mapping rule to pass the API urls (which are well known - they are part of the defined S3 and EC2 API specifications) through to Eucalyptus whatever port the backend is listening on. I too faced this issue, last time my MySQL somehow got updated and I wasn't able to login to MySQL server. MySQL db was corrupted, I had to kill MySQL and then run mysqlupgrade script. As far as I can tell, my database files are not corrupted, and yet the installation failed anyway. Norway2, I just build a new karmic server from scratch and amavis service doesn't start by default unless the hostname is a FQDN. But an error is displayed on the console when this is the case (e.g. hostname being "karmic"): Starting amavisd: head: cannot open `/etc/mailname' for reading: No such file or directory The value of variable $myhostname is "karmic", but should have been a fully qualified domain name; perhaps uname(3) did not provide such. You must explicitly assign a FQDN of this host to variable $myhostname in /etc/amavis/conf.d/05-node_id, or fix what uname(3) provides as a host's network name! (failed). Either having /etc/mailname or defining a FQDN for the host is mandatory and service amavis states so quite clearly, IMHO. Could have happened that you missed this message above? We are limited a single NTP upstream source due to political reasons outside our control and our Ubuntu ntpd loses sync periodically. I tried a number of solutions but they all failed. When I tried setting the ntpd server's nice value to negative eight it just works. Clearly the stability of ntpd is improved by reducing the number of cases in which ntpd gets preempted by scheduling. The changelog of the "upstart" package does not mention"HOME", so I can't tell if they fixed this intentionally. The only update since I created the bug report is 0.6.3-11, so this must have fixed it. I have nominated this for Karmic, in the hopes of getting an SRU out soon. We think we have tracked this problem to a very simple fix...ensuring that the iptables module gets loaded in initial eucalyptus upstart job. I have uploaded eucalyptus_1.6~bzr931-0ubuntu7.5~ppa1 to the ubuntu-virt ppa: * https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-virt/+archive/ppa I don't have a current Karmic test environment, since I'm totally focused on Lucid development right now. If I could get one person to confirm this fix on their Karmic UEC, I will upload to karmic-proposed and begin the SRU process (where the fix will again need to be confirmed).
