[Bug 520774] Re: Node not added to CLC even though registration is successful

2010-02-12 Thread Thierry Carrez
Registration does two things: sync keys from CC to NC's
/var/lib/eucalyptus/keys/ and add the node IP to the CC
/var/lib/eucalyptus/nodes.list. Could you check what completed
successfully on the failing node, if any ?

If both appear to have completed successfully, then something prevents
the CC to see the latest IP. If one (or all) of those appear to have
failed, then at the very minimum, there is a bug in euca_conf
--register-nodes (returned 0 while registration was not complete).

[Bug 406466] Re: 2.6.31 - Can't see files in CIFS-mounted directories

2010-02-12 Thread Andy Rogers
Iam really disappointed that this also has not been classed as a bug buy the

from going from a simply configuration on my fstab of between Januty Karnic.
//server/mnt /mnt/mountpoint cifs guest 0 0
to
//server/mnt /mnt/mountpointcifs
nounix,noserverino,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,guest  0   0

which is a big change in configuartion especially when this is not
documented really well apart from on this bug report.

I would belive this should be classed as a server papercut for Lucid,
and especially with it being a LTS. I expect there will be quite a few
people using CIFS shares on Hardy who will jump to Lucid, and will not
really know whats happened.

How can we get this reconsidered for a fix for Lucid?

[Bug 520872] [NEW] dbconfig-common: mysqldump must dump routines during upgrade, or risk data loss

2010-02-12 Thread sPOiDar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dbconfig-common

If an upgrade script alters or deletes a routine (FUNCTION/PROCEDURE)
during upgrade, and the current or subsequent upgrade fails, the user is
unable to recover routines using the created database backups, so the
affected routine(s) may be permanently lost/damaged, and the upgrade
permanently wedged.

This is severe, and the way to recover is for the user to have intricate
knowledge of the package, and be able to extract the affected procedure
from previous install/update scripts if available.

This should obviously be reported upstream, but I'm not sure what the
protocol is for reporting to Debian from derivative distributions.

Attached patch resolves by enabling 'routines' option for mysqldump.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Andy Rogers here.

My experience is in using Ubuntu right since 6.06, and using Ubuntu with
a NAS device since 7.04.

I learned early that the NOUNIX option was useful, as this allows
user/group permissions to be set on the local mount point.

But the 'noserverino' option was never, ever needed. I always used the
same fstab entry all the way from 7.04 from 9.04.

For the record, my fstab had always been :

//server/mnt /mnt/mountpoint cifs
nounix,user=username,password=password,uid=uid,gid=gid,file_mode=0770,dir_mode=0770
 0 0

If this is a kernel bug then I understand Ubuntu may not have direct
control over this, but I guess my feedback is that it's a very nasty
issue that cropped up by surprise, and it took me several weeks of
google and forum searching to find the answer. For a new user, or a less
experienced user, this may be a showstopper.

I will accept whatever outcome is decided, I thought I'd just post my
feedback in support of Andy's comments.

Cheers
Callan

I can confirm this bug, and that the solution from brian works. I have
summed it up, changed the bug description and set status to in progress,
since with this solution I was able to successfully upgrade Mysql.

Cheers Lanoxx

---Solution---
If the user is not in the database you can fix it with these statements:

1. Step one, get the password for debian-sys-maint:
~$ sudo cat /etc/mysql/debian.cnf |grep debian -C 5
[client]
host = localhost
user = debian-sys-maint
password = XX
socket   = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
[mysql_upgrade]
user = debian-sys-maint
password = XX
socket   = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
basedir  = /usr
2. Login to mysql as root and create the user debian-sys-maint with the
password from above
~$mysql -uroot -p
***
GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'debian-sys-maint'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'XX';

[Bug 153868] Re: package mysql-server failed to install/upgrade - Access denied for user 'debian-sys-maint'@'localhost'

2010-02-12 Thread LanoxxthShaddow
maybe the script could somehow check if the password in
/etc/mysql/debian.cnf is still the same as in the mysql database, or if
that doesnt work, then try to login as root and prompt the user for a
password? After all this bug has been in existance now for two years and
keeps surfacing all the time?

Also the pre-removal script could give a more descriptive error such as:
login with debian-sys-maint failed, check credentials.

Oh, bug #501655 seems to be a duplicate.
Cheers Lanoxx

2010-02-12 Thread Thierry Carrez
It's not valid as a server papercut, since it affects a kernel team package
/and/ the fix is probably not simple.
It is still valid as a bug, though: I agree this is an undesirable behavior

[Bug 488373] Re: mysql-server-5.1 does not include the InnoDB engine

2010-02-12 Thread Ancoron Luziferis
I have this problem since I updated package from version 5.1.37-1ubuntu5
to 5.1.37-1ubuntu5.1. InnoDB supported silently dissappeared:

$ mysql -u root -p -e 'SHOW ENGINES\G' | egrep '(Engine|Support): '
Enter password:
  Engine: MyISAM
 Support: DEFAULT
  Engine: MRG_MYISAM
 Support: YES
  Engine: BLACKHOLE
 Support: YES
  Engine: CSV
 Support: YES
  Engine: MEMORY
 Support: YES
  Engine: FEDERATED
 Support: NO
  Engine: ARCHIVE
 Support: YES

My InnoDB configuration is:

$ grep 'innodb' /etc/mysql/my.cnf
innodb
innodb_data_home_dir= /srv/mysql/innodb
innodb_data_file_path   = ibdata1:2G:autoextend
innodb_autoextend_increment = 64M
innodb_status_file  = 1
innodb_thread_concurrency   = 4
innodb_file_per_table
innodb_support_xa   = 0
innodb_buffer_pool_size = 2G
innodb_additional_mem_pool_size = 20M
innodb_log_file_size= 512M
innodb_log_buffer_size  = 64M
innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit  = 0
innodb_lock_wait_timeout= 50

There is nothing in /etc/mysql/conf.d/ except the file from mysql-server-5.1
package:

$ dpkg -S /etc/mysql/conf.d/*
mysql-server-5.1: /etc/mysql/conf.d/mysqld_safe_syslog.cnf

AppArmor is also realigned for my configuration and doesn't complain.

[Bug 488373] Re: mysql-server-5.1 does not include the InnoDB engine

2010-02-12 Thread Ancoron Luziferis
Well, problem solved.

The problem was I moved the database files and MySQL doesn't like that
(excerpt from /var/log/daemon.log):

Feb 11 12:24:40 spawn mysqld: InnoDB: Error: log file ./ib_logfile0 is of
different size 0 5242880 bytes
Feb 11 12:24:40 spawn mysqld: InnoDB: than specified in the .cnf file 0

function returned error.
Feb 11 12:24:40 spawn mysqld: 100211 12:24:40 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB'
registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed.

After some postwork I have my InnoDB support back.

[Bug 521085] [NEW] Samba 3.4.0 denies access to Roaming Profiles for XP Clients

2010-02-12 Thread Patrick Goetz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Source Package: samba_2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.4
Ubuntu Release: 9.10 (Karmic 64-bit AMD Server)

This is basically the same problem as reported in Bug #397699; however
the problem persists in Karmic (9.10) and has not been fixed, as far as
I can tell. Using an smb.conf file which worked perfectly for (Debian)
samba_3.0.2-2, one gets something similar to the following error message
when trying to login using a roaming profile on a Windows XP machine:

Windows did not load your roaming profile and is attempting to log you
on with your local profile. Changes to the profile will not be copied to
the server when you logoff. Windows did not load your profile because a
server copy of the profile folder already exists that does not have the
correct security. Either the current user or the Administrator's group
must be the owner of the folder. Contact your network administrator.

Deleting the profile and starting with a clean slate allows the user to
login and logout again, however the message above is repeated upon a
subsequent attempt to login.

I tried every suggestion I could find to fix this, including such ill-
advised steps as chmod'ing the permissions on the profile to 1777.

My original profile share configuration in smb.conf looked like this:
[profile]
   create mode = 0600
   directory mode = 0700
   path = /home/%U/profile
   read only = no
   profile acls = yes
   browseable = yes

One suggestion involved changing the create and directory mode masks as
follows:

[profile]
   force create mode = 0777
   force directory mode = 0777
   path = /home/%U/profile
   read only = no
   profile acls = yes
   browseable = yes

This did not solve the problem. As far as I can tell, the bug reported
for Jaunty samba 3.3.2 has not been fixed for Karmic samba 3.4.0.

Given the importance of Samba in many linux server environments, the
fact that this was not tested more thoroughly before Karmic was
released is frankly shocking and disappointing.

[Bug 520774] Re: Node not added to CLC even though registration is successful

2010-02-12 Thread Mathias Gug

The failing node (10.55.55.4) hasn't been added to nodes.list:

ubu...@cempedak:~$ sudo cat /var/lib/eucalyptus/nodes.list

10.55.55.5
10.55.55.7
10.55.55.3
10.55.55.6

On the failing node (10.55.55.4) there isn't any key available:

ubu...@mamoncillo:~$ sudo ls -l /var/lib/eucalyptus/keys/
total 0
ubu...@mamoncillo:~$

So it seems that there is a bug in euca_conf --register-nodes.

[Bug 427612] Re: does not pass pressed caps lock to client

2010-02-12 Thread Anthony Liguori
This is a bug in a patch introduced by debian. The patch changes the
behavior of the caplocks key in such a way that it breaks any
application that is actually using SDL correctly. See
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=317010

This patch should be removed from the libsdl package.

[Bug 427612] Re: does not pass pressed caps lock to client

2010-02-12 Thread Paolo Bonzini
The sdl patch was correctly submitted as

+SDL_UseLockKeys = getenv (SDL_DISABLE_LOCK_KEYS) == NULL;

...

+use_lock_keys = SDL_UseLockKeys;

...

+if (!use_lock_keys)
+break;

(i.e. by default do not change anything) but the maintainer apparently
morphed it into

+SDL_UseLockKeys = getenv(SDL_DISABLE_LOCK_KEYS);

...

+ use_lock_keys = ( SDL_UseLockKeys  *SDL_UseLockKeys );

...

+ if ( ! use_lock_keys )
+ break;

which changed the meaning of SDL_DISABLE_LOCK_KEYS and, at the same
time, the default. A better patch to qemu would be to stick

putenv (SDL_DISABLE_LOCK_KEYS, howlame);

before SDL_Init. Also totally inacceptable by upstream, but at least it
doesn't break Debian/Ubuntu qemu if the wrong 205_lock_keys.patch is
removed from libsdl.

The libsdl1.2 package in Ubuntu is no longer carrying that patch,

mathiaz is able to reproduce this against uec, so that suggests that its
something coming back from eucalyptus that isn't comaptible with boto
that works with ec2.

I suspect we're failing in boto/ec2/snapshot.py:endElement
boto 1.9 added:
elif name == 'ownerId':

self.volume_size = int(value)
