As such this is being marked as a duplicate of the master bug report. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug (e.g other packages affected by this issue) should occur in the master report instead of creating a separate report for each affect package. [Bug 522225] Re: permissions incorrect on libmysqlclient16_7.0.9-1_amd64.deb
Downloading the file from a mirror is not the right thing to do. The file is marked unreadable because it's not *meant* to be downloaded; this bug will be fixed today when it's replaced by a correct version of the library in question. So the bug here is not the permissions, at all, which is why they haven't been fixed. [Bug 523868] [NEW] FFe request: samba upstartification
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba I've had a patch here to make samba use upstart instead of init scripts for over a month, but uploading it was blocked on a pair of bugs (one in ifupdown, one in upstart) before the nmbd job's start condition could be satisfied properly. Those bugs are fixed, but now we're past FF, so I'm requesting an exception for this change. I've been testing this change locally for a while and think it's safe, but the benefits are also small - it's mostly just cleanup and should have no user-visible benefits. [Bug 522845] Re: compiling with libcap-ng disallows qemu/kvm access to files not owned by root when not using AppArmor
** Description changed: libvirt in 10.04 is now compiled with libcap-ng. According to http://libvirt.org/drvqemu.html#securitycap this will affect QEMU/KVM access to files if libvirt is configured to launch VMs as root (the default in Ubuntu, see bug #522619 for why). From the libvirt.org page: "The Linux capability feature is thus aimed primarily at the scenario where the QEMU processes are running as root. In this case, before launching a QEMU virtual machine, libvirtd will use libcap-ng APIs to drop all process capabilities. It is important for administrators to note that this implies the QEMU process will only be able to access files owned by root, and not files owned by any other user." As it happens, the AppArmor security driver (which is enabled by default) disallows the SETPCAP capability, which is needed to drop these - capabilities. As such, these capabilties is not dropped and libvirt + capabilities. As such, these capabilties are not dropped and libvirt behaves in much the same way as it would without being compiled with libcap-ng, like in previous releases of Ubuntu (this is not a security issue because the VM is confined by a restrictive AppArmor profile). - This means that accesses VMs in $HOME still work. + This means that accessing VMs in $HOME still work. However (and this is where the potential problem is) if someone disables the AppArmor security driver or adds this capability to the AppArmor profile, then SETPCAP is available and any VMs that need access to disk files, etc not owned by root will break with the following in /var/log/libvirt/qemu/.log: qemu: could not open disk image /home/.../disk0.qcow2: Permission denied This could be a serious regression for people using QEMU/KVM without AppArmor. [Bug 501956] Re: OpenSSH does not log failed attempts when key authentication is used
To summarize: LogLevel INFO RSAAuthentication yes PubkeyAuthentication yes HostbasedAthentication no ChallengeResponseAuthentication no PasswordAuthentication no AllowUsers lukeskywalker [1] The decision to log the error is made in procedure "auth_log" in "auth.c": /* Raise logging level */ if (authenticated == 1 || !authctxt->valid || authctxt->failures >= options.max_authtries / 2 || strcmp(method, "password") == 0) authlog = logit; When account exists but does not have a trusted pubkey on the server the variables have the following values: "auth_log" decision has the following values: authenticated . 0 authctxt->valid ... 1 authctxt->failures 0 options.max_authtries . 6 method publickey Which translates to: if (0 == 1 || ! 1 || 0 >= 6 / 2 || 1 == 0) authlog = logit; So authlog cannot escalate to the logit function (nothing in auth.log) I suggest ADDING the following change between "/* Raise logging level */" and the start of the if statement that immediately followed it: if (!authenticated && authctxt-->valid && strcmp(method, "publickey") == 0) authlog = logit; There seems to be an alternative train of thought from the 2005 portable bug associated with this report. [Bug 524101] [NEW] optionally fetch public ssh keys from Launchpad when starting an instance
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: euca2ools The euca-run-instance command has a -k parameter that takes the name of a ssh key registered with eucalyptus. I find this highly inconvenient (albeit consistently inconvenient with EC2). Generating these keys every time I install UEC, and having to move them around to any machine where I want to access an image is kind of silly. For those of us that have Launchpad.net accounts, and registered public SSH keys there, it would be really handy if euca-run-instance supported something like the following: euca-run-instances $EMI -t c1.medium -k lp:kirkland or perhaps even a list: euca-run-instances $EMI -t c1.medium -k lp:kirkland,lp:neilsoman As part of the instantiation process, Eucalyptus (or perhaps euca2ools?) would wget https://launchpad.net/~$USER/+sshkeys public ssh keys, and append those to the ~ubuntu/.ssh/authorized_keys file. Put this in a loop for multiple comma separated users. I understand this is not part of the EC2 api/spec. However, the EC2 api/spec is a bit arcane here. We can and should do much better than that for UEC, especially leveraging other infrastructure we have access to, such as Launchpad. ** Affects: euca2ools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - have -k support existing ssh keys + fetch public ssh keys from Launchpad when running an instance ** Summary changed: - fetch public ssh keys from Launchpad when running an instance + optionally fetch public ssh keys from Launchpad when starting an instance -- optionally fetch public ssh keys from Launchpad when starting an instance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524101 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 524226] [NEW] ssh-authorize - retrieve a key from a public keyserver and add to the authorized_keys file
Public bug reported: ssh-copy-id is a great script for adding my public key to a remote server. I have a script in my ~/bin called ssh-authorize that does something similar. It retrieves a key from a remote public keyserver and appends it to .ssh/authorized_keys. By default, it uses Launchpad.net. But the URL environment variable could be mangled accordingly. This script is incredibly useful for EC2 and UEC virtual machines, when I want to give someone else access to a VM. I can trivially run: ssh-authorize cjwatson It also supports more than one ID as arguments. So you could just as easily do: ssh-authorize cjwatson kirkland kees Ideally, this script would find a home in Ubuntu's openssh-server package. If this isn't appropriate, we could find a home in cloud-init or cloud-utils, though I suspect that many non-UEC Ubuntu users might find it useful too. ** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Assignee: Colin Watson (cjwatson) Status: New -- ssh-authorize - retrieve a key from a public keyserver and add to the authorized_keys file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524226 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 524226] Re: ssh-authorize - retrieve a key from a public keyserver and add to the authorized_keys file
I'm adding a server-papercuts task, as I think this might be a reasonable candidate, as I mentioned this script at UDS-Dallas. The code is very simple, and straight-forward. It's really something that could make the Ubuntu Server shine, as being friendly, useful, and easier-to-use, and help further the adoption of Ubuntu's EC2 images over other Linux distributions. It's also a nice tie-in with Launchpad, as an auxiliary Ubuntu-related service (while not being exclusively tied to Launchpad -- just mangle your URL environment variable and point to your infrastructure's public key server). ** Also affects: server-papercuts Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ssh-authorize - retrieve a key from a public keyserver and add to the authorized_keys file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524226 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
