[Bug 571543] Re: Milter and Freshclam configurations buggy in Lucid

2010-05-03 Thread Scott Kitterman
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: clamav

In the default configuration, logrotate for clamav-milter will cause
  incorrect permissions.

In the default configuration, the new bytecode anti-virus checks were
  inadvertently left disabled.
+
+ By default, clamav-daemon will restart every six hours to pick up new
+ signatures. There is an off by default feature for freshclam to notify
+ clamav-daemon when it's restarted to enable immediate use of new
+ signatures. This is supposed to be controlled by a debconf boolean, but
+ the path to the clamd config file is stored instead.

  TEST CASE:

For clamav-milter, with the current package installed, inspect the
contents of /etc/logrotate.d/clamav-milter and find that the create line
only includes the group permissions, not the user (clamav): "create 640
adm". Install the updated packages and check the file again and find
that it now includes user too: "create 640 clamav adm".

For the freshclam bytcode issue, inspect /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf and
note the absence of a Bytecode parameter. Install the updated packages
and see that freshclam.conf now contains "Bytecode true" (or false if
the user has set it to false previously).
+
+ Use dpkg-reconfigure clamav-freshclam and say change the "Should clamav
+ daemone be notified of updates" question to yes. Inspect
+ /var/cache/debconf/config.dat and find the paramete for clamav-
+ freshclam/NotifyClamd and note the value. It should say
+ "/etc/clamav/clamd.conf". Install the updated packages and then inspect
+ the same value again. It should say "true".

2010-05-03 Thread Rolf Leggewie
The window to incorporate new upstream releases in lucid was closed
around February. The new package will automatically be added to

[Bug 574665] Re: kvm + virtio disk corrupts large volumes (>1TB).

2010-05-03 Thread masc
Even though there's no corruption, ide cannot be considered an
acceptable workaround with kvm.

Ata exceptions will occur mostly when writing large files. (eg.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/279693). Proposed
workarounds like putting cd in drive don't work with kvm. All processes
which currently have io requests pending will freeze for ~10 seconds
when this happens. And it does, a lot.

[Bug 569292] Re: opiepasswd does not always generate valid seeds

2010-05-03 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I have uploaded fixed packages for karmic to my PPA here:

https://launchpad.net/~mdeslaur/+archive/testing

Could you please test these packages and report here if they worked for
you. If they work, I'll arrange for an SRU update to fix this issue.

Thanks.

[Bug 546874] Re: passwd - can't login, change password (pam_winbind pam-auth-update profile)

2010-05-03 Thread Mistofelees
Got the same problem:
- can not log in
- can not change passwork
- can not create new user

1. case: native 9.10 srv to 10.04 srv with apt-get upgrade. There was no Samba
but Likewise 5.4.0.7985. Testbed Intel Celeron 667MHz
2. case production file and www server 9.10 srv. Samba. No Likewise. 'apt-get
purge samba' started upgrade all by itself. Intel P4. Uptime about 180 days.
3. case native 10.04 srv rc1 to 10.04 srv with apt-get upgrade. No Samba, but
Likewise 5.4.0.7985. Testbed Intel Atom 330

All the upgrades were made after the official release,
In all cases the servers were registered in a large AD and had users.
There was normal user 'root', a local user with sudo rights and a domain user
with sudo rights, one basic user with no special rights. None of us can log in.
All the configurations was made over SSH (Putty) as 'root'. I had at least two
SSH connections open from either one or two workstations, so that I could test
various tricks.
Cases 1 and 3 didn't allow local login with keyboard. I didn't try connection
over RS232 (port is open and tested before upgrade).
Now the connections are closed by automatic timeout.
None of the fixes in previous messages did help.

Not even root can log in. What to do with the 2.case ? There is customer
data in there and a lot of scripts. Most of the data and scripts have
been automatically copied to a backup. Still there is a lot of work to
make it functional again, if I got to start with CD-installation.

I think I can replicate the sittuation, because I copied two of the root
manual logs to another server. One problem is that I'm extremely short
of time.

[Bug 571960] Re: bind9 installation and dnsutils binaries crash due to libdns.so.64

2010-05-03 Thread Brendan Ribera
I figured out what was causing this. A workstation bootstrapping script
compiled and installed GeoIP version 1.4.4 to /usr/local/lib. I
installed the current repository version (1.4.6) and removed the out-of-
date libs, and things started working again. Not a bug.

The gallery page I'm viditing has url rewrite enabled. I can visit the main

After looking at an strace, it maybe caused by a incorrect database upgrade

it wrong).
Last part of the strace shows:

Oki, great to hear that.
I set up some builds (which are still in queue now) with the patches
from dotdeb, but until I can't see some green marks next to them I'll be
waiting for packages from any source.

On hardy I can easily use packages from dotdeb, but that doesn't work on
lucid (I use nginx and don't want to "downgrade" to apache just cause of
lack of packages).

Thanks.

[Bug 397721] Re: [needs-packaging] php-fpm

2010-05-03 Thread Paul van Genderen
@Stas: I'm working on such packages but they are for PHP 5.2, as FPM
with PHP 5.3 is still experimental (and I had problems building it).
Although I've been using it on a public website for a while now, there
can still be regressions (and there probably are). And I cannot support
it for 5 years, though the FPM patches will probably work fine before
the next LTS.

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
Setting

AddressFamily inet

in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and restarting sshd does work around this
problem.

** Description changed:

I had a proper configuration on jaunty (sshd_config) so I could ssh into
that machine and run X11 applications there with X11 forwarding, so I
could use apps fromt here remotely. After upgrade to karmic (same
sshd_config on the server, client is not changed) I got this (for
  example):

- xterm Xt error: Can't open display:
+ xterm Xt error: Can't open display:
  xterm: DISPLAY is not set

I've tried ssh -X, -Y and -X -Y too together with no success.

So DISPLAY environment variable is not even set because of some reason,
though I found this in /var/log/auth.log:

[Bug 450645] Re: error during slapd configuration: chown: cannot access `olcDbDirectory\nolcDbDirectory'

2010-05-03 Thread Nathan Stratton Treadway

Any reason the "grep" commands in the get_suffix and get_directory

[Bug 450645] Re: error during slapd configuration: chown: cannot access `olcDbDirectory\nolcDbDirectory'

2010-05-03 Thread Nathan Stratton Treadway
Yep, in your case, the problem is the existence of the
"olcDatabase={1}hdb.ldif~" backup file.

(The postinst script currently assumes that only one file will contain
the string "olcSuffix: dc=nasgul,dc=local", but here both the .ldif and
.ldif~ file contain it.)

If you don't care much about keeping that backup file, you could delete
it (or at least move it out of the slapd.d/cn=config directory), then
run "dpkg --configure slapd" to try running the slapd configuration step
again.

If you do want to keep the backup file, a workaround would be to rename
it with a name that doesn't start with "olcDatabase" (e.g.
"saved_olcDatabase={1}hdb.ldif~" or whatever).

[Bug 574704] [NEW] munin-node after update to Lucid still in /etc/rc*.d, invoked twice

2010-05-03 Thread ilf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: munin

With system upgrade from Karmic to Lucid, munin-node was upgraded from
1.2.6-13ubuntu3 to 1.4.4-1ubuntu1.

Now on boot, i get the following in /var/log/boot.log:

Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
  utility, e.g. service S98munin-node start
Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start S98munin-node
  start: Unknown job: S98munin-node

There is a /etc/init/munin-node.conf for invoking it via Upstart.
There's also /etc/init.d/munin-node, a symlink to /lib/init/upstart-job.

It seems the problem are these symlinks to /etc/init.d/munin-node:

  /etc/rc0.d/K20munin-node
  /etc/rc1.d/K20munin-node
  /etc/rc2.d/S98munin-node
  /etc/rc3.d/S98munin-node
  /etc/rc4.d/S98munin-node
  /etc/rc5.d/S98munin-node
  /etc/rc6.d/K20munin-node

How to fix this error?
Can I just delete the symlinks in /etc/rc*.d?
Will upstart then still know to start it on boot?

[Bug 574685] [NEW] php5-cgi installs duplicate executables, should use symlink

2010-05-03 Thread Mark A. Ziesemer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

On Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid), installed php5-cgi . Observed that the
php5-cgi is copied as both /usr/bin/php5-cgi and /usr/lib/cgi-bin/php5 .
One of these should be a symbolic link instead - probably /usr/lib/cgi-
bin/php5 to /usr/bin/php5-cgi ? This executable is ~7.5 MB, so there is
some space savings along with shared maintenance to consider.

Note that the only visible difference between the 2 is a difference in
the build time by a few seconds:

[Bug 517714] Re: [Lucid] Error starting domain: could not remove profile

2010-05-03 Thread Jamie Strandboge
AppArmor should not be not causing this connection refused message
because skogs said there is nothing in the dmesg indicating a denial.
Indeed, skogs removal of 'audit deny /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/** wxl,'
should not have done anything because the libvirtd profile disallows
this access regardless (and that rule just makes sure it is logged. What
probably happened is the libvirtd restart or system reboot 'cleaned up'
libvirt so it would function correctly again.

Please file a different bug-- this one is fixed.

[Bug 574665] [NEW] kvm + virtio disk corrupts large volumes (>1TB).

2010-05-03 Thread Curt Sampson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

See this bug:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2933400&group_id=180599&atid=893831

I have confirmed that this happens with 10.04 host and guest. Giving kvm
a logical virtio volume of 1024 GB works; a logical volume of 1048 GB
fails to install and produces disk errors on the guest (but not on the
host). Changing the kvm configuration to use an IDE volume instead works
fine even with a 1.7TB volume.

Note that, because this can introduce disk corruption, this *really*
needs to go into the release notes.

[Bug 571960] Re: bind9 installation and dnsutils binaries crash due to libdns.so.64

2010-05-03 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. I cannot
repeat the issue here, all three packages are installed, and work fine.
Could you please run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'? It seems something did
not finish configuration...

[Bug 572262] Re: [SRU] libusb_get_report: error sending control message: Operation not permitted

2010-05-03 Thread Chuck Short
Statement of Impact:

nut in lucid was shipped with a bug that prevented some UPSes from
connecting to the nut daemon. Checking google fedora was also affected
by the same problem and has the same patch that we used.

Explanation:

This bug has been fixed by the attached debdiff that fixes this issue.
This patch needs to be sent upstream if its not already fixed.

How to reproduce:

1. Have a UPS that is affected by this problem.
2. Try to connect to NUT
3. You should get the error message.

There should not be any regressions with this patch.

[Bug 545795] Re: apparmor driver blocks access to hostdev and pcidev devices

2010-05-03 Thread Andreas Ntaflos
I'm sorry to post to this bug that has a status of "Fix released" but I
am not sure it is really fixed. I have a situation similar too the
original poster's concerning a USB card reader that won't make it past
AppArmor it seems. Using libvirt-bin 0.7.5-5ubuntu27.

Situation: one of our servers was upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04
today. The server runs a few Ubuntu 9.10 VMs, nothing fancy or out of
the ordinary. These VMs were defined and installed a few weeks ago,
prior to the release of and update to Ubuntu 10.04 (if that matters at
all).

We've had problems with AppArmor and Libvirt/KVM before so we disabled
AppArmor and pass-through of the USB card readers worked fine this way.
This situation was not ideal from a security point-of-view but since the
host and guests are strictly for internal test and development purposes
we went with it. Now I see that a lot has happened with regards to
AppArmor, USB and PCI pass-through and Libvirt, so tried again enabling
AppArmor. Alas, when starting a VM dmesg and /var/log/kern.log show
these entries, repeating every second it seems:

May 3 19:44:18 TESTHOST kernel: [ 2407.509182] type=1503
audit(1272908658.618:785): operation="open" pid=1532 parent=1 profile
="libvirt-959806d1-327a-cd14-6b3f-ddeee8a19d0e" requested_mask="r::"
denied_mask="r::" fsuid=0 ouid=0
name="/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1e.0/:01:04.4/usb6/devnum"

The guest of course does not get to see anything of the USB device in
question. Please find the XML definition of the guest in question here:
https://daff.pseudoterminal.org/files/vm-usb.txt

After disabling AppArmor (/etc/init.d/apparmor stop) the USB device is
again visible in the guest.

Why would this happen? The file /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.libvirt.virt-aa-
helper explicitly states that access to /sys/devices/** should be
allowed. Am I missing anything? I can experiment and run tests on this
server for the next week or so, so please tell me if I can help
debugging anything.

[Bug 574588] [NEW] The --nocache flag for qemu-nbd doesn't work

2010-05-03 Thread Randy Barlow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

If I try to attach a disk image using qemu-kvm to a network block
device, it will not work if I use the --nocache flag. Here is an
example:

$ qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd7 --nocache whowho.qcow2
$ ls /dev/nbd7*
/dev/nbd7

If you look in dmesg, there aren't any mentions of the above commands.
However, this works:

$ sudo qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd7 whowho.qcow2

$ ls /dev/nbd7*
/dev/nbd7 /dev/nbd7p1 /dev/nbd7p2

And in dmesg, I see this:

[ 8489.904028] nbd7: p1 p2

The latter command doesn't actually always work. Sometimes it just takes
several tries. When it doesn't work, there are no error messages or any
mention in the logs about it not working. It would be nice if it would
give some more info about what is happening.

[Bug 574557] [NEW] package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12 failed to install/upgrade: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal. Reinstall goe

2010-05-03 Thread Mickg01
Public bug reported:

Upon upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 I was unable to run MySQL
Administrator or MySQL Query Browser:
MySQL Error Nr. 2002
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

pinging localhost succeeds.

I attempted to reinstall mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12 it gets to:
Selecting previously deselected package mysql-server-5.1.
(Reading database ... 168691 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12 (using
.../mysql-server-5.1_5.1.41-3ubuntu12_i386.deb) ...

and then stops.

I did attempt to uninstall it and got:
dpkg: error processing mysql-server-5.1 (--remove):
Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should
reinstall it before attempting a removal.
Errors were encountered while processing:
 mysql-server-5.1
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I'd like to get this repaired and then rescue my database but am at a
loss as to how to proceed.

Actually not. I tried syslog, dmesg, then xtail on /var/log but no
relevant entry seemed to appear. The packets just fell off the wagon. It
looks like some in-kernel issue to me, especially regarding the "fix" I
found. I just wonder why it did not happen earlier...

[Bug 574474] Re: Dist-Upgrade Karmic->Lucid: Upgrading slapd fails with "chown: invalid argument: `'"

2010-05-03 Thread Nathan Stratton Treadway
The slapd.postinst script attempts to ensure that various files and
directories have the proper ownerships (and permissions) set. It looks
like it may be having trouble extracting the correct list of directories
in your case.

Can you post the output of the following command (run as root)?

  grep -E "^(include|database|suffix|directory)" /etc/ldap/slapd.conf

Hopefully that will give some hint as to what is causing the confusion.

[Bug 567043] Re: [SRU] [lucid] php5-cgi crashes in memcpy using lighttpd

2010-05-03 Thread Chuck Short
Statement of Impact:

Lucid was shipped with a bug in PHP that can cause PHP applications to
segfault when running certain applications (ex: gallyer2). This was
addressed in PHP bug #51624, and is fixed in PHP 5.3.3-dev.

How this has been addressed:

This bug has been fixed in the PHP SVN and the patch has been backported
to 5.3.2. I have asked people to verfiy that the patch fixes their
installation of gallery2 as shown below. I have attached the patch which
fixes this issue.

How to reproduce:

1. Try to install gallery2 with ubuntu4.
2. Check the segfaults in dmesg

There shouldnt be any regressions with this patch. If you have any
questions please let me know.

Regards
chuck

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
Also, the revised workaround in #20 does not work for me. I edited
/etc/init/ssh.conf as suggested, then ran

initctl reload-configuration
restart ssh

but for some reason the -4 parameter isn't taking effect. ps shows sshd
running as just /usr/sbin/sshd with no argument, netstat shows sshd
listening on 22, and $DISPLAY is still not being set on login.
Surely a reboot isn't required?

[Bug 434799] Re: X11 forwarding via SSH does not work after upgrade to karmic

2010-05-03 Thread Andrew Schulman
Confirmed that this is broken again in Lucid, and I agree with yota:
the purpose of /etc/default/* is to provide supported ways for
administrators to modify services' behavior without having to modify
their startup scripts. It's a regression to stop supporting
/etc/default/ssh.

[Bug 571933] Re: dhclient3 hangs on shutdown

2010-05-03 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. On Lucid

via /etc/init.d.

Could you please give us logs for a shutdown with this issue?

[Bug 569865] [NEW] gallery2 installation fails

2010-05-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gallery2

Step 8 of the gallery2 web installation fails due to deprecation errors:

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated
in /usr/share/gallery2/modules/core/classes/GalleryStorage.class on line
290 Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in
/usr/share/gallery2/modules/core/classes/GalleryStorage.class on line
1120 Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in
/usr/share/gallery2/modules/core/classes/GalleryStorage.class on line
1120 Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in
/usr/share/gallery2/modules/core/classes/GalleryStorage.class on line
1120

errors like these continue for another couple of hundred lines, the
installation of gallery2 stops there without a working gallery.

As can be seen on http://php.net/manual/en/function.ereg.php the ereg
function has been deprecated as of PHP 5.3.0, PCRE compatible regular
expressions (http://www.php.net/manual/en/book.pcre.php) should be used.
