[Bug 566560] Re: samba server requires smbpasswd -a user constantly
I have this very same problem which seems to have started after upgrading from Ubuntu server 9.10 to 10.04 LTS. Two users on my windows7 machine both connecting to network shares on my Ubuntu server. One of them always manages to connect, the other sometimes managed to connect but every now and then, the samba user seems to not exist Both users use the same login script in windows consisting of: net use l: /delete net use l: \\192.168.1.98\data When it doesn't work, I get this message in the login script: The password or user name is invalid for \\192.168.1.98\data. The workaround is to log into ubuntu, perform a sudo smbpasswd -a and then run the script again which now works perfectly... (for a while) Looking at my log files (/var/log/samba/log.xxx) I get the following error message when it doesn't work: [2010/05/09 16:24:55, 0] lib/util_sock.c:539(read_fd_with_timeout) [2010/05/09 16:24:55, 0] lib/util_sock.c:1491(get_peer_addr_internal) getpeername failed. Error was Transport endpoint is not connected read_fd_with_timeout: client 0.0.0.0 read error = Connection reset by peer. After re-adding the same user in ubuntu with smbpasswd using the same password and running the script again, I get this message when it works: [2010/05/09 16:33:18, 1] smbd/service.c:1063(make_connection_snum) dumleburken (192.168.1.123) connect to service data initially as user carl (uid=1000, gid=116) (pid 1566) Anyone got any idea what could be wrong? [Bug 535029] Re: Update to OpenSSH 5.4p1
This bug was fixed in the package openssh - 1:5.5p1-3ubuntu1 --- openssh (1:5.5p1-3ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes: - Add support for registering ConsoleKit sessions on login. - Drop openssh-blacklist and openssh-blacklist-extra to Suggests; they take up a lot of CD space, and I suspect that rolling them out in security updates has covered most affected systems now. - Convert to Upstart. The init script is still here for the benefit of people running sshd in chroots. - Install apport hook. * Stop setting OOM adjustment in Upstart job; sshd does it itself now. openssh (1:5.5p1-3) unstable; urgency=low * Discard error messages while checking whether rsh, rlogin, and rcp alternatives exist (closes: #579285). * Drop IDEA key check; I don't think it works properly any more due to textual changes in error output, it's only relevant for direct upgrades from truly ancient versions, and it breaks upgrades if /etc/ssh/ssh_host_key can't be loaded (closes: #579570). openssh (1:5.5p1-2) unstable; urgency=low * Use dh_installinit -n, since our maintainer scripts already handle this more carefully (thanks, Julien Cristau). openssh (1:5.5p1-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream release: - Unbreak sshd_config's AuthorizedKeysFile option for $HOME-relative paths. - Include a language tag when sending a protocol 2 disconnection message. - Make logging of certificates used for user authentication more clear and consistent between CAs specified using TrustedUserCAKeys and authorized_keys. openssh (1:5.4p1-2) unstable; urgency=low * Borrow patch from Fedora to add DNSSEC support: if glibc 2.11 is installed, the host key is published in an SSHFP RR secured with DNSSEC, and VerifyHostKeyDNS=yes, then ssh will no longer prompt for host key verification (closes: #572049). * Convert to dh(1), and use dh_installdocs --link-doc. * Drop lpia support, since Ubuntu no longer supports this architecture. * Use dh_install more effectively. * Add a NEWS.Debian entry about changes in smartcard support relative to previous unofficial builds (closes: #231472). openssh (1:5.4p1-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream release (LP: #535029). - After a transition period of about 10 years, this release disables SSH protocol 1 by default. Clients and servers that need to use the legacy protocol must explicitly enable it in ssh_config / sshd_config or on the command-line. - Remove the libsectok/OpenSC-based smartcard code and add support for PKCS#11 tokens. This support is enabled by default in the Debian packaging, since it now doesn't involve additional library dependencies (closes: #231472, LP: #16918). - Add support for certificate authentication of users and hosts using a new, minimal OpenSSH certificate format (closes: #482806). - Added a 'netcat mode' to ssh(1): ssh -W host:port - Add the ability to revoke keys in sshd(8) and ssh(1). (For the Debian package, this overlaps with the key blacklisting facility added in openssh 1:4.7p1-9, but with different file formats and slightly different scopes; for the moment, I've roughly merged the two.) - Various multiplexing improvements, including support for requesting port-forwardings via the multiplex protocol (closes: #360151). - Allow setting an explicit umask on the sftp-server(8) commandline to override whatever default the user has (closes: #496843). - Many sftp client improvements, including tab-completion, more options, and recursive transfer support for get/put (LP: #33378). The old mget/mput commands never worked properly and have been removed (closes: #270399, #428082). - Do not prompt for a passphrase if we fail to open a keyfile, and log the reason why the open failed to debug (closes: #431538). - Prevent sftp from crashing when given a - without a command. Also, allow whitespace to follow a - (closes: #531561). * Fix 'debian/rules quilt-setup' to avoid writing .orig files if some patches apply with offsets. * Include debian/ssh-askpass-gnome.png in the Debian tarball now that we're using a source format that permits this, rather than messing around with uudecode. * Drop compatibility with the old gssapi mechanism used in ssh-krb5 3.8.1p1-1. Simon Wilkinson refused this patch since the old gssapi mechanism was removed due to a serious security hole, and since these versions of ssh-krb5 are no longer security-supported by Debian I don't think there's any point keeping client compatibility for them. * Fix substitution of ETC_PAM_D_SSH, following the rename in 1:4.7p1-4. * Hardcode the location of xauth to /usr/bin/xauth rather than /usr/bin/X11/xauth (thanks, Aron Griffis; closes: #575725, LP:

I'm afraid this is almost certainly never going to happen, because any such change risks breaking interoperability due to the rather nasty way scp works. I'll open a hardy task, though, in case we have time to deal with that. openssh (1:5.1p1-6) unstable; urgency=low * Open /proc/self/oom_adj with O_RDONLY or O_WRONLY as necessary, rather than O_RDWR. * Disable OOM adjustment for vserver/OpenVZ (thanks, Karl Chen; closes: #511771). * Add ufw integration (thanks, Didier Roche; see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuFirewall#Integrating%20UFW%20with%20Packages; LP: #261884). * Add a comment above PermitRootLogin in sshd_config pointing to README.Debian. * Check if delgroup is present in openssh-client.postrm (closes: #530501). * Build with -fPIC on mips/mipsel (thanks, Luk Claes; closes: #531942). * Remove /var/run/sshd from openssh-server package; it will be created at run-time before starting the server. * Use invoke-rc.d in openssh-server's if-up script. -- Colin Watson cjwat...@debian.org Fri, 05 Jun 2009 11:56:03 +0100 ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released ** Also affects: openssh (Ubuntu Hardy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu Hardy) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu Hardy) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- [hardy] restart of ssh server fails in vserver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220272 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I think our long-term plan for this is to have Upstart manage ssh-agent for user sessions so that ssh-agent no longer needs to be a parent of the other session processes. [Bug 40189] Re: autofs needs to be restarted to pick up some shares
Problem is still there in the final release of Ubuntu 10.04. autofs isn't started at all when booting up, which mean I have to manually start it each time with a 'service autofs start'. So far none of the workarounds I tried seem to work. [Bug 578035] [NEW] ssh-askpass-gnome doesn't prompt for password in any release post ubuntu 8.10 32/64bit
Public bug reported: I have reported this bug before for the releases 9.04 and 9.10 but I'm unable to find them for some reason so thought it best to log a clean bug on it as those bugs had gone no-where. Using ubuntu 8.10 32/64bit on my dell laptops or home built PC with a dsa ssh key in /home/$username/.ssh in a file called id_dsa -rwx-- 1 testuser users 1264 2010-05-09 22:49 id_dsa if I do ssh machine_name gnome-askpass is launched allowing me to input my password, the password is then remembered and ssh-agent remembers the password and I never have to enter it again. In every release post 8.10 32/64bit, this includes 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04 on a clean install or upgrade, using exactly the same ssh file, with the same name, permissions etc if I ssh into a remote machine, ssh-askpass- gnome is not launched, and the remote machine just asks for a ssh password, which it accepts, however this is obviously not put into ssh agent so I have to input it for each remote host I connect to, every time I connect. I am not sure what's changed between 8.10 and earlier and 9.04 and later to change this behaviour. the output of env on my 10.04 machine looks like this ORBIT_SOCKETDIR=/tmp/orbit-mattd SSH_AGENT_PID=9912 TERM=xterm SHELL=/bin/bash XDG_SESSION_COOKIE=60532bbecbb3ab8f6f27821a4be73669-1273445163.52477-1360981030 WINDOWID=60822689 GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL=/tmp/keyring-eyH4Pg GTK_MODULES=canberra-gtk-module USER=mattd LS_COLORS=rs=0:di=01;34:ln=01;36:hl=44;37:pi=40;33:so=01;35:do=01;35:bd=40;33;01:cd=40;33;01:or=40;31;01:su=37;41:sg =30;43:ca=30;41:tw=30;42:ow=34;42:st=37;44:ex=01;32:*.tar=01;31:*.tgz=01;31:*.arj=01;31:*.taz=01;31:*.lzh=01;31:*.lz ma=01;31:*.zip=01;31:*.z=01;31:*.Z=01;31:*.dz=01;31:*.gz=01;31:*.bz2=01;31:*.bz=01;31:*.tbz2=01;31:*.tz=01;31:*.deb= 01;31:*.rpm=01;31:*.jar=01;31:*.rar=01;31:*.ace=01;31:*.zoo=01;31:*.cpio=01;31:*.7z=01;31:*.rz=01;31:*.jpg=01;35:*.j peg=01;35:*.gif=01;35:*.bmp=01;35:*.pbm=01;35:*.pgm=01;35:*.ppm=01;35:*.tga=01;35:*.xbm=01;35:*.xpm=01;35:*.tif=01;3 5:*.tiff=01;35:*.png=01;35:*.svg=01;35:*.svgz=01;35:*.mng=01;35:*.pcx=01;35:*.mov=01;35:*.mpg=01;35:*.mpeg=01;35:*.m 2v=01;35:*.mkv=01;35:*.ogm=01;35:*.mp4=01;35:*.m4v=01;35:*.mp4v=01;35:*.vob=01;35:*.qt=01;35:*.nuv=01;35:*.wmv=01;35 :*.asf=01;35:*.rm=01;35:*.rmvb=01;35:*.flc=01;35:*.avi=01;35:*.fli=01;35:*.flv=01;35:*.gl=01;35:*.dl=01;35:*.xcf=01; 35:*.xwd=01;35:*.yuv=01;35:*.axv=01;35:*.anx=01;35:*.ogv=01;35:*.ogx=01;35:*.aac=00;36:*.au=00;36:*.flac=00;36:*.mid =00;36:*.midi=00;36:*.mka=00;36:*.mp3=00;36:*.mpc=00;36:*.ogg=00;36:*.ra=00;36:*.wav=00;36:*.axa=00;36:*.oga=00;36:* .spx=00;36:*.xspf=00;36: SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/keyring-eyH4Pg/ssh DEFAULTS_PATH=/usr/share/gconf/gnome.default.path SESSION_MANAGER=local/obiwan:@/tmp/.ICE-unix/9878,unix/obiwan:/tmp/.ICE-unix/9878 USERNAME=mattd XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/xdg/xdg-gnome:/etc/xdg DESKTOP_SESSION=gnome PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games PWD=/home/mattd/.ssh GDM_KEYBOARD_LAYOUT=gb LANG=en_GB.utf8 GNOME_KEYRING_PID=9860 MANDATORY_PATH=/usr/share/gconf/gnome.mandatory.path GDM_LANG=en_GB.utf8 GDMSESSION=gnome SPEECHD_PORT=7560 SHLVL=1 HOME=/home/mattd GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID=this-is-deprecated LOGNAME=mattd XDG_DATA_DIRS=/usr/share/gnome:/usr/local/share/:/usr/share/ DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-3GpND8pHGm,guid=27de896b04225deaf23b395e4be73b2b LESSOPEN=| /usr/bin/lesspipe %s DISPLAY=:0.0 LESSCLOSE=/usr/bin/lesspipe %s %s XAUTHORITY=/var/run/gdm/auth-for-mattd-99JhaP/database COLORTERM=gnome-terminal _=/usr/bin/env OLDPWD=/home/mattd This bug has been open (in it's other forms) for a long time now, and I'm keen to put in the effort to get this resolved as for controlling multiple hosts as I do this is a real pain (it's one of the reasons I kept upgrading past 8.10 and then doing a re-install of 8.10) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: ssh-askpass-gnome 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon May 10 00:27:15 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release amd64 (20100429) ProcEnviron: LANG=en_GB.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: openssh ** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- ssh-askpass-gnome doesn't prompt for password in any release post ubuntu 8.10 32/64bit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578035 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
