[Bug 482836] Re: Samba shared printers not accessible under Vista and Windows7

2010-06-18 Thread Herr Irrtum
Ok then. Someone in the comments mentioned that there is a fix which is
included in Ubuntu 10.04 and also available via PPA for ubuntu 9.10. Whatever
made you write this, Gijs Molenaar , it is not fixed. It's still not fixed
within samba if you look at the status of the bug over there at samba
(https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6888). However I appreciate your
actions (to find the upstream original bug description and even do the package
making!!) - this should have helped a lot of people - but in this case
unfortunately doesn't --> so please *before* you claim it's fixed - test it .
Under the conditions which are described in the bug description. Even if the
samba people say it is. In this case - I repeat - it is not.
Which brings me to a second note:
Chuck Short - almost immediately after I filed this bug (as a Samba bug) you
enhanced it in order to be a Cups bug as well. But why? This confuses the devs,
this doesn't help anyone. As I described and other people told: It *works* with
windows clients (32 bit), it works with linux *clients* - heck - it even works
with Windows 7 if you redirect LPT1 or create a direct IP connector. Which is
not stable (for Windows specific reasons). But it works for a moment.
It is so overwhelming clear, that this is Samba in the first place. Why CUPS
then?
If a Cups dev/packager comes and sees what is actually going on... he will turn
his back, mumbling that this is something for the samba guys.
If a Samba developer comes in he will realize that this is filed under "Cups" -
so he will say that in the first place the cups guys are responsible.
And in the end there is the result: Deadlock.
That's why I wont change the hint that "a fix is released"for the "cups"-filed
version .
Please read carefully, what Crazydave is writing (I discussed some things with
him behind the scenes) - he has very precise experiences with this bug and
above my description he even focuses on automatic driver rollout mechanisms
which work fine (!!) with Windows 32 Bit Clients - but not with windows 64bit
clients.

What about SMB2 ? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Message_Block -->
"Microsoft introduced SMB2 with Windows Vista in 2006."). I remember that samba
had a hard time and needed more than half a year to make Vista 32 bit clients
speak to printer shares.
Maybe in 64bit space some parameters of the SMB2 implementation are different.
This is something for upstream samba tough.

All in all - I am out. I have no time to do further things here. Which is
because I do not depend on Windows anymore (I had a very new AMD GFX card back
when I filed the bug, that's why I was on Windows7 with one of my PCs back then
when I filed the bug).
Good luck to dave and the others figuring this out.

Maybe someone should compare this to a different Linux (maybe rolling-release
distros like Arch or Gentoo) which may have a more up to date package of samba
(and well - cups). Even better: A fresh from SVN sources compiled samba - all
this to compare things. Just to make sure first of all if this is Ubuntu
related or upstream related. Right now it feels more upstream related for me.
Again: I do not have the time to check this out.

Now my ending sentence: Gijs - once more - it is great, what you did by
doing all that packaging with all the knowledge necessary collected from
the samba folx. Thanks a bunch and keep the spirit - just tell people
that you *think* that's it and tell them, they should test it to make
sure it really is.

Good luck,
Herr Irrtum!

[Bug 596064] Re: nmbd fails to start on boot - problem with upstart

2010-06-18 Thread Abhishek Mukherjee
No manual changes were made to samba configuration file. Here it goes.

#
# Sample configuration file for the Samba suite for Debian GNU/Linux.
#
#
# This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
# smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
# here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options most of which
# are not shown in this example
#
# Some options that are often worth tuning have been included as
# commented-out examples in this file.
# - When such options are commented with ";", the proposed setting
#differs from the default Samba behaviour
# - When commented with "#", the proposed setting is the default
#behaviour of Samba but the option is considered important
#enough to be mentioned here
#
# NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command
# "testparm" to check that you have not made any basic syntactic
# errors.
# A well-established practice is to name the original file
# "smb.conf.master" and create the "real" config file with
# testparm -s smb.conf.master >smb.conf
# This minimizes the size of the really used smb.conf file
# which, according to the Samba Team, impacts performance
# However, use this with caution if your smb.conf file contains nested
# "include" statements. See Debian bug #483187 for a case
# where using a master file is not a good idea.

[Bug 596064] [NEW] nmbd fails to start on boot - problem with upstart

2010-06-18 Thread Abhishek Mukherjee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

1. Release of Ubuntu is 10.04 LTS
2. Version of Samba is - 3.4.7

Problem - Expected nmbd service to start at boot but it failed to start
at boot. We have multiple systems but this problem has been noticed only
on certain systems. The same packages were installed on all systems. As
a workaround, we changed the pre start script configuration file for
nmbd - /etc/init/nmbd.conf to make it start at boot always. The
following 2 lines were commented in the nmbd.conf file -

NMBD_DISABLED=`testparm -s --parameter-name='disable netbios'
2>/dev/null`
   [ "x$NMBD_DISABLED" = xYes ] && { stop; exit 0; }

I don't think that I understand what the second line is trying to do.
Please check and advise how to fix this problem.

[Bug 588861] Re: "pad block corrupted" error when trying to register an image with 2.6.34 kernel

2010-06-18 Thread Dmitrii Zagorodnov
I am attaching a tarball with a stand-alone Java program that exercises
BouncyCastle in the same exact way as Walrus does for image decryption.
Included with the code are a couple of the JARs it needs and three input
files: an encrypted compressed image (originally a ~1-GB Ubuntu image),
the manifest for the image, and a cloud private key necessary for
decryption. We are unable to reproduce this bug on our setup, but
perhaps someone else will be able to, either with the included image or
with a different one. To use the included image:

java -classpath bcprov-jdk16-145.jar:xalan-2.7.1.jar:. TestWalrusDecryption
encrypted.img manifest.xml key.pem

To use with a different image, start with a working Eucalyptus
installation and obtain user credentials. Using the credentials bundle
(but not necessarily upload or register) an image of your choice. In the
directory where bundling took place there will be a manifest file and
several encrypted parts. Cat the parts together in the right order to
obtain the encrypted image. Finally, extract the cloud private key from
the cloud controller as follows:

openssl pkcs12 -in ${EUCALYPTUS}/var/lib/eucalyptus/keys/euca.p12 \
-name eucalyptus -name "eucalyptus" \
-password pass:eucalyptus -passin pass:eucalyptus -passout pass:eucalyptus \
-nodes | \
grep -A30 "friendlyName: eucalyptus" | \
grep -A26 "BEGIN RSA" > ${EUCALYPTUS}/var/lib/eucalyptus/keys/cloud-pk.pem

The cloud-pk.pem file is what you pass as the third parameter.

FYI-- rather than updating the AppArmor profile, you should adjust
/etc/apparmor.d/tunables/ntpd instead, which has a setting for people to
adjust the ntpd device.

[Bug 217964] Re: apache2.conf missing many language encodings

2010-06-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package apache2 - 2.2.15-5ubuntu1

apache2 (2.2.15-5ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low

  * Merge from debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- debian/{control, rules}: Enable PIE hardening.
- debian/{control, rules, apache2.2-common.ufw.profile}: Add ufw profiles.
- debian/control: Add bzr tag and point it to our tree.
- debian/apache2-2.common.apache2.init: Add graceful restart (LP: #456381)
+ Dropped:
  - debian/patches/206-fix-potential-memory-leaks.dpatch: No longer needed.
  - debian/patches/206-report-max-client-mpm-worker.dpatch: No longer
needed.
  - debian/config-dir/apache2.conf: Merged back from debian.
  - mod-reqtimeout functionality: Merge back from debian.
  - debian/patches/204_CVE-2010-0408.dpatch: No longer needed.
  - debian/patches/205_CVE-2010-0434.dpatch: No longer needed.
  - debian/patches/203_fix-ab-segfault.dpatch: No longer needed.

apache2 (2.2.15-5) unstable; urgency=low

  * Conflict with apache package as we now include apachectl. Closes: #579065
  * Remove conflicts with old apache 2.0 modules. The conflicts are not
necessary anymore as skipping a stable release is not supported anyway.
  * Silence the grep in preinst.

apache2 (2.2.15-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Move definition of other_vhosts_access.log to new config file
/etc/apache2/conf.d/other-vhosts-access-log, but disable it
if it has been disabled by the admin. Closes: #576572. LP: #507616
  * Comment out the contents of mods-available/proxy.conf, as it just
is a nuisance for use of apache2 as a reverse proxy, which is much
more common than the use as forward proxy. Extend the comments
in the file.
  * Change defaults or add example configs for some modules:
status.conf:
  - enable ExtendedStatus by default
  - enable ProxyStatus by default
  - document SeeRequestTail directive
proxy_ftp.conf:
  - set 'ProxyFtpDirCharset UTF-8' by default
ldap.conf:
  - enable /ldap-status page, allow it from localhost by default
proxy_balancer.conf:
  - add (disabled) example for /balancer-manager page
ssl.conf:
  - document SSLStrictSNIVHostCheck directive
  * Add symlink from apachectl to apache2ctl to be more compatible with
upstream. Apache httpd 1.3 hasn't been in Debian for some time.
  * Simplify logrotate script. Closes: #576105
  * Remove empty directory /usr/lib/debug/usr/sbin in mpm packages.
Closes: #576089
  * Fix apxs2 to work with perl 5.12rc3. Closes: #577239
  * Add source/format file to make lintian happy.

apache2 (2.2.15-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * mod_reqtimeout: backport bugfixes from upstream trunk up to r928881,
including a fix for mod_proxy CONNECT requests.
  * mod_dav_fs: Use correct permissions when creating new files. LP: #540747

apache2 (2.2.15-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Make the Files ~ "^\.ht" block in apache2.conf more secure by adding
Satisfy all. Closes: #572075
  * mod_reqtimeout: Various bug fixes, including:
- Don't mess up timeouts of mod_proxy's backend connections.
  Closes: #573163

apache2 (2.2.15-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
- CVE-2010-0408: mod_proxy_ajp: Fixes denial of service vulnerability
- CVE-2009-3555: mod_ssl: Improve the mitigation against SSL/TLS protocol
  prefix injection attack.
- CVE-2010-0434: mod_headers: Fix potential information leak with threaded
  MPMs.
- mod_reqtimeout: New module limiting the time waiting for receiving
a request from the client. This is a (partial) mitigation against
slowloris-type resource exhaustion attacks. The module is enabled by
  default. Closes: #533661
- mod_ssl: Add SSLInsecureRenegotiation directive to allows insecure
renegotiation with clients which do not yet support the secure
renegotiation protocol. As this requires openssl 0.9.8m, bump
  build dependency accordingly.
  * Fix bash completion for a2ensite if the site name contains 'conf' or
'load'. Closes: #572232
  * Do a configcheck in the init script before doing a non-graceful restart.
Closes: #571461

apache2 (2.2.14-7) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix potential memory leaks related to the usage of apr_brigade_destroy().

  * Fix error in Polish translation of 404 error page. Closes: #570228
  * Document ThreadLimit in apache2.conf's comments.

apache2 (2.2.14-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * Use environment variables APACHE_RUN_DIR, APACHE_LOCK_DIR, and
APACHE_LOG_DIR in the default configuration. If you have modified
/etc/apache2/envvars, make sure that these variables are set and exported.
  * Add support for multiple apache2 instances to initscript and apache2ctl.

[Bug 596010] Re: ntpd sementation fault using NMEA driver

2010-06-18 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.

Your issue seems to be related to this apparmor message:

Jun 18 17:33:33 pscpc kernel: [18794.490995] type=1503
audit(1276878813.771:19): operation="open" pid=2889 parent=1
profile="/usr/sbin/ntpd" requested_mask="rw::" denied_mask="rw::"
fsuid=0 ouid=0 name="/dev/ttyS0"

So you probably need to edit /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.ntpd to add this
capability.

Nevertheless, I do agree ntpd should not die a most horrible death
because of that. Unfortunately, we do not have a stacktrace to look at.
Can you please provide us with one?

[Bug 596010] Re: ntpd sementation fault using NMEA driver

2010-06-18 Thread Paul Crawford
If I remove the symlink, it works but without the GPS (as one might
reasonably expect) and this is the corresponding syslog message:

Jun 18 17:59:02 pscpc ntpd[3075]: refclock_open /dev/gps0: No such file or
directory
Jun 18 17:59:02 pscpc ntpd[3075]: configuration of 127.127.20.0 failed

So it looks as if a failed open is occuring, and that is crashing ntpd
with a segmentation fault. What is not clear is why the two type of
failed open should differ, and why it can't open /dev/gps0 while gtkterm
seems happy enough to do so.

[Bug 596010] Re: ntpd sementation fault using NMEA driver

2010-06-18 Thread Paul Crawford
Just to add, if I try gtkterm I can open and see the NMEA messages just
fine, so I don't know why it should report "refclock_open /dev/gps0:
Permission denied" in the first place.

[Bug 596010] [NEW] ntpd sementation fault using NMEA driver

2010-06-18 Thread Paul Crawford
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ntp

I have an old Garmin GPS that I though I could use as a local time
source with NTP. It supports NMEA messages so I added the line to my
ntp.conf file:

server 127.127.20.0 # NMEA GPS

and created a symbolic link from /dev/gps0 -> /dev/ttyS0 as suggested
here:

http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~mills/ntp/html/drivers/driver20.html

However, when trying to start NTP it crashes on me without any obvious
reason, though it might be somehow related to the serial port opening
failing for some non-obvious reason:

[Bug 570944] Re: passwd : gives "Authentication token manipulation error"

2010-06-18 Thread gmoore777
FYI:
I can get `passwd` to work if I change the line in common-password
From:
  password [success=1 default=ignore] pam_winbind.so use_authtok
try_first_pass
To:
  password sufficient pam_winbind.so

I'm not sure if I'm creating other problems with the above edit, since
I'm not PAM savvy.

I have to wait one day to change my password again,
but I will try a more minimal change of:
   password [success=1 default=ignore] pam_winbind.so try_first_pass
Meaning, I will just remove the "use_authtok" to see if that is the problem.

[Bug 592610] Re: Shared folders (through Samba) when following instructions sometimes does not work correctly

2010-06-18 Thread Garthhh

I'll go through the whole thing from scratch, following instructions as I get
them from the GUI & see where it gets me
I just walked into the other room & sat down at an ol Pentium III pc that is
hooked to my printer. I added Mint9 [last week] to this PC, because it's
easier to use than 10.04 using the graphical interface. I can generally stick
to using software from the manager & synaptic. I update usually within a few
hours of when I notice there is a notifications.
I went to my home folder & right clicked documents, clicked share options
got asked for permission [root I guess], gave it
told I needed other packages & was asked if wanted to install the packages to
do windows shares, clicked install
Samba & lib-something[dependency] installed
I filled in the share popup
the icon now shows an outstretched hand
went to my other computer I don't see any other computers on the network?
I go to network & click through the menus, don't see anything that appears to
be relevant
I go to system[control center in mint] click Personal file sharing & get a
message
"this feature cannot be enabled Because the required packages are not installed
on your system"
I go to help, which says
I should go to startup preferences
I scroll through the list & see that personal file sharing is enabled
at this point I'm at an impass, so
I go have a look at synaptic & type personal file sharing into search, no
results
change to file sharing, 65 results
I scroll through the list & see 9 of them are already installed
File
Gnome-user-share
Giver
Samba Common
Libwclient
Samba Common-bin
Samba Client
Samba
I'll stop here for the time being at least on the PC which has not had a bunch
of stuff installed

at the very least the help file & or on screen prompts should lead you
to successfully sharing 1 folder, it should be a little more difficult
to share the entire home folder just for security sake

It's a shame to be so close & not go the rest of the way with graphical method
of file sharing that doesn't require finding information through searching
forums or the rest of the internet.
this basic task should be described adequately on help or through prompts/error
messages within the process of right clicking a folder.

I understand that when you deal with the intricacies of an operating system on
a day to day basis, it can be difficult to look at things with the eyes of a
newbie
Let me know if there is any way I can help? :)

[Bug 588410] Re: dynamic block storage should use virtio

2010-06-18 Thread Neil Soman
Yes, I understand. I was replying to this part: "As an added benefit,
performance should increase significantly." This is not necessarily
true, and in some cases, we have seen > 10% performance degradation by
moving to virtio.

It will be a while until all distros move to libvirt 0.8.1. From an
upstream point of view, we intend to support both options until dynamic
attach for scsi is dropped from all distros that Eucalyptus runs on.

Right, as Jamie says, any distro that includes libvirt >= 0.8.1 will
not work with scsi for hot attach. If upstream Eucalyptus would like
to see scsi supported for hot attach, they should perhaps open
(another) discussion with upstream libvirt and qemu.

I installed the latest version uploaded by soren, and the problem still
exists for me in a different way. I can use --firstboot and --firstlogin
and the script runs fine with those commands. The VM does not run those
commands, after it has been created and started. It starts up fine, it
starts the Ubuntu boot sequence, but does not run firstboot or
firstlogin.

[Bug 545795] Re: apparmor driver blocks access to hostdev and pcidev devices

2010-06-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
John, while this patch seems ok to me, this is really an upstream bug.
Can you submit a bug upstream (http://libvirt.org/bugs.html) and link to
it from this bug? Once upstream accepts it, we can cherrypick it for
Maverick, verify it and backport it to Lucid. Thanks!

but I had neglected to process it. My fault. In compensation, I'll
waive the usual seven-day waiting period if you could test this quickly?

[Bug 482836] Re: Samba shared printers not accessible under Vista and Windows7

2010-06-18 Thread crazydave
I will describe my problem:

What I want to do: share CUPS printers with Windows 64Bit Clients (Win XP/2003
and Win 7/2008). The clients should get the printer drivers from the CUPS
server. First target is to share the PDF printer.
Installation on Lucid. CUPS Version 1.4.3-1ubuntu1; Samba Version:
2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3

How the printer gets installed: Open explorer and go to \\printserver\
the right click on the PDF printer and click "connect".

With Windows 32bit clients the printer gets installed and printing a
test page works perfect.

With Windows 64bit clients there are different symptoms:
On Win XP/2003 64bit the printer gets installed. The files ( cups6.ini
cupsps6.dll cupsui6.dll PDF.ppd ps5ui.dll pscript5.dll pscript.hlp
pscript.ntf PDF.ppd) show up in the c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3\
folder. But right click on the installed printer to enter the "printer
settings" brings up "The 'PDF' printer driver is not installed on this
computer. Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you install the
printer driver. Do you want do install the driver now?" - click on "No" brings
up the Printer Properties page but printing a test page is not possible!

On Win 7/2008 64bit clients when I try to right click and choose
"connect" It starts to copy some files and then I get the message
"Windows cannot connect the printer. 0x00d8". When I search for the
ppd file or cups files on this client - nothing shows up.

Attached you will find the samba.log from the connection of a Win 2008
64bit client.

I'm not sure what causes this problem. Please let me know if you need
more information.

[Bug 595873] [NEW] qemu-kvm max number of nics too low

2010-06-18 Thread Alessandro Bono
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

qemu-kvm allow up to 8 nics per vm, this value is really too low for vm
attached to lots of network (I have a installation with 10 vlan right now but
this value will rise in near future)
I made a patch to up this value to 24, this should be safe as you can read on
this thread

http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-kvm/2009/1/29/4848304

patch attached

[Bug 584048] Re: kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-06-18 Thread Frank Groeneveld
I'm seeing this issue as well. I have a Hardy host system, with bridged
network. I start a lucid 64 bit kvm with virtio and a tap device (which
is in a bridge already) and after a while, the network seems down (from
outside, no ssh access etc). However, when I run a ping from within the
kvm instance, the network works again.
