This is still the case with Lucid. I change to no in my local config and now ssh is faster. I think it is important for user experience to set this to no by default and anyone needing it can then enable it manually. This is because this bug has now created the impression that ssh when using ubuntu/linux is slow or has a long delay. This is not good from a general experience point of view. [Bug 394570] Re: Backspace via SSH only deletes last byte of characters (no IUTF8 handling, requires standardisation work)
I don't understand: why does it require an extension to SSH protocol? Sure, one possible way would be to make ssh forward this bit of information. However, the IUTF8 flag should be set consistently with the locale (the character set part), which is not forwarded by ssh either - but still set on the server. Another approach could be to do whatever happens to the locale: when you log on remotely, someone sets this environment variable for you. Whoever does this (pam, login script, whatever) could also modify the terminal settings, couldn't it? Taking this approach, you don't need to modify the protocol, just make sure that whenever someone logs in via ssh, they don't only get $LANG and stuff but also the stty iutf8 bit set correctly. Moreover, I believe the meaning of /sys/module/vt/parameters/default_utf8 is that every newly allocated terminal gets the iutf8 flag set automatically to this value by the kernel. Should the ssh server or login procedure be unable to get the locale information, they ought to respect whatever is set here. This yet again doesn't require extending the protocol. -- Backspace via SSH only deletes last byte of characters (no IUTF8 handling, requires standardisation work) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/394570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

This is the same bug as 590570, but this one has been around longer. I think the real issue underlying this bug is in bug 525154 which relates to a race condition while starting portmap which in turn starts statd. This only seems to be an issue if you have /var as a separate mount point where /var is not mounted when statd is started. [Bug 607466] Re: libvirt error starting domin: could not remove profile for
1) stopped libvirt via the libvirt-bin init script 2) started 'libvirtd -v' manually hoping to see some debugging output 3) started the guest okay. 4) destroyed the guest 5) canceled the manual libvirt 6) started libvirt-bin again with the init script 7) started the guest okay. Note that AppArmor was off for this process, so the workaround was either: a) restarting libvirt b) restarting libvirt with apparmor off (would this matter?) c) started libvirt by hand (clearing something?) d) magic -- libvirt error starting domin: could not remove profile for https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607466 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 573919] Re: autofs doesn't work with lucid
Post 13 in bug 525154 above has solved the issue with statd, but now autofs is failing to start. I tried to something similar with /etc/init/autofs.conf but to no avail. Still no joy here. k3nt-1 are you seeing the error messages in your /var/logs/boot.log file that I posted above? -- autofs doesn't work with lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573919 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
