[Bug 624900] Re: Authbind not binding WINE to 127.0.0.1:895
rusivi, I see your point completely. The invalid bug task is reported against authbind, not wine. authbind can't be rewritten another way and doesn't suffer from any sort of behavior that isn't consistent with its fundamental, documented design and operation. Wine simply is not compatible with LD_PRELOAD. Adding a "Won't Fix, Wishlist" task to Wine to make sure it is associated and seen in Wine's complete bug list. ** Summary changed: - Authbind not binding WINE to 127.0.0.1:895 + Authbind not binding WINE to 127.0.0.1:895 - WINE does not support LD_PRELOAD ** Also affects: wine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: wine (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix ** Changed in: wine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist -- Authbind not binding WINE to 127.0.0.1:895 - WINE does not support LD_PRELOAD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/624900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to authbind in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Clint: Based on what I read for the thread you posted, while the LD_PRELOAD is theoretically possible to implement in WINE it would require a large re- write of WINE. While this is possible, it's highly unlikely due to it requiring a large re-write of WINE. [Bug 624361] Re: service ssh restart does not test the configuration file
I see your point Simon, and I agree thats what I expect too. I think a case can be made that sometimes "failing safe" means doing something non-intuitive, though in doing something like that, there has to be a good reason. There is no pre-restart stanza, and upon looking at upstart's code, it simply changes the "goal" state of the job to STOP, then to START, so this makes sense, though it could be added, it would not be a simple, natural hook like the pre-stop and pre-start. About the only way I can think of to retain the expected behavior of always stopping (which I think is important) and avoid silently disappearing (even falsely returning 0 on initctl restart) is to simply warn via the console, when stopping with a broken config, and then fail in pre-start with the -t check. Unfortunately, there is some resistance to using 'output console', which is currently the only way for upstart jobs to communicate with the user other than daemon.log, which is pretty far removed from a sysadmin in crisis mode trying to fix their ssh service. I'm having some trouble even getting restart to work if there are any pre-stop scripts, so I will continue to look into this. -- service ssh restart does not test the configuration file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/624361 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Hi ruisivi, thank you for filing this bug report and working with us to help make Ubuntu better! authbind works by setting LD_PRELOAD, and wine does not work well with LD_PRELOAD, as they have to do a lot of syscall/library trickery to make windows calls work in Linux. This thread explains a lot of it: http://marc.info/?l=klik-devel&m=119542615603762&w=2 Given the incompatible designs of the two systems, I don't think authbind and wine will ever work correctly together, and I have to mark this as Invalid as well. ** Changed in: authbind (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- Authbind not binding WINE to 127.0.0.1:895 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/624900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to authbind in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 624898] Re: ssh client hang for prolonged connections
Hi Jason, thanks for filing this bug report and working with us to make Ubuntu better! The syscall appears to be "select()", which means that ssh is waiting for data from the other side of some connection. This could be from the DNS server or the server you have connected to. What might be more interesting is the output of the debugging mode of ssh. However, this may not be suitable for public consumption as it could contain details about the security of not only your local machine, but that of the remote machine. If you are going to post that, you should either edit the file to remove portions that reveal the hostnames/identities of any of the systems or users that you're connecting to/with, or you can mark this bug as private before doing so, but then only subscribed users will be able to see it, so subscribe 'ubuntu-bugcontrol' too so that you can get trusted users looking at the bug as well. To generate the debugging output, simply add -vvv To your ssh command line, and you will get a ton of output that looks something like this: debug1: Requesting no-more-sessi...@openssh.com debug1: Entering interactive session. debug2: callback start debug2: client_session2_setup: id 0 debug2: channel 0: request pty-req confirm 1 When you post the output, Note the sections that take longer than you would expect them to (and, if you can, exactly how long). Hi Ken, thank you for filing this bug report and working with us to to make Ubuntu better! The DpkgTerminalLog.txt file included in the bug report shows this: Running newaliases newaliases: fatal: myorigin parameter setting must not contain multiple values: ken-desktop hotmail.com This would appear to be an error in the myorigin parameter that got written to your postfix config. If you manually edited /etc/postfix/main.cf or /etc/mailname, then the answer would be to edit them again, and fix that by choosing either hotmail.com or ken-desktop. However, if you did not edit that file, then it may be that somewhere along the way this invalid value passed error checking (which it should not by reading the postfix configuration files). Ken, I'm marking this as Invalid. You may want to try running dpkg-reconfigure postfix Which should ask you all these questions again, and fix that value, as it will not allow you to enter the value that you've got there. Hello ZuLuS! Thank you for filing this bug report and working with us to make Ubuntu better. I don't see any useful error messages in the DpkgTerminalLog.gz that help me understand the problem much, other than it occurred during the postinst script (that is, assuming google was able to translate the file from polish to english properly). Can you try running apt-get -f install And see if that succeeds? [Bug 624361] Re: service ssh restart does not test the configuration file
Hi Simon, thanks very much for filing this bug report and working with us to make Ubuntu better. Because of the way upstart and sshd work together, its hard to detect failures. The reason try-restart worked was that it falls through in /usr/sbin/service, as its not one of the regular actions that upstart supports. In looking at this, I think the appropriate fix is to add a pre-stop that runs /usr/sbin/sshd -t And will warn the user that the config file is broken, and possibly even abort the stop. Setting status to Triaged as I think this fix can be worked on now. Setting status to High, as it is a serious problem for server users if sshd is silently broken on a remote machine. ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- service ssh restart does not test the configuration file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/624361 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 589063] Re: Windows Server 2008 won't boot with more than 4 vCPUs
I was going to try and get hold of Dustin via IRC, but I wasn't able to. I'm not sure how this package fits into the Server SRU picture, and I'm not really in a position to call how safe an ACPI change like this on it's own is (although, this was the first of only a few that I can tell between 0.5.1 & 0.6.0 that upstream performed, so I'd hazard a guess that it is safe. I really thing it deserves some testing/oversight from separate eyes before it even goes into -proposed etc. In addition I don't have a box w/ more than 4 cores, I was reproducing the issue by over-committing CPU resources, so I think it really needs to be tested on more server-ish type hardware. -- Windows Server 2008 won't boot with more than 4 vCPUs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/589063 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I did a quick rebuild of 0.6.0-0ubuntu1 for Lucid, and I can boot a 5 vCPU Enterprise VM okay, which I couldn't before. So it looks like the issue is somewhere upstream between Jan 2010 and early July 2010... ** Also affects: seabios (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Windows Server 2008 won't boot with more than 4 vCPUs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/589063 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 624739] Re: /etc/tomcat6 is created with the wrong permissions
/etc/tomcat6 is only root-writeable by default for security reasons, so that an abuse of the tomcat6 user cannot compromise the whole Tomcat configuration (server.xml, and the users password file). Tomcat6 can write under /etc/tomcat/Catalina/localhost so that autodeployment works. Your requirement that the tomcat6 user can write in /etc/tomcat6/opencms doesn't come from Tomcat but from OpenCMS. You can change the default protection to suit your particular needs, or use a private instance for OpenCMS (see about tomcat6-user in http://doc.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/serverguide/C/tomcat.html) ** Changed in: tomcat6 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- /etc/tomcat6 is created with the wrong permissions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/624739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to tomcat6 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
