[Bug 649574] [NEW] dovecot-postfix incomplete install
Public bug reported: On a fresh maverick, dovecot-postfix does not configure entirely dovecot out of the box. One need to modify /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf to include reading external configuration files located in /etc/dovecot/auth.d and /etc/dovecot/conf.f. We should expect a fully configured dovecot after installing the package. I continue my tests on a connected server. I just installed a fresh 10.10 in a VM environment to check Thierry comment. The problem by default does not occur because dovecot-postfix is now broken : if the config files are well installed for postfix, for dovecot there are created in sub directories (auth.d and conf.d) which are just plain ignored by the new default dovecot.conf. Therefore, no managesieve process nor dovecot-auth can be launched. A patch could be to include the following lines : !include /etc/dovecot/conf.d/*.conf !include /etc/dovecot/auth.d/*.conf at the end of dovecot.conf when installing dovecot-postfix. In fact a simple spamd restart has helped (scanning the message 150
times did not return an error). So it might well have been a memory
corruption. All the more that the hash entry data structure which
tripped spamd looked very broken to me:

Actually, /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu does have some stuff for
pulse, which suggests we should have:

owner @{PROC}/[0-9]*/fd/* r,
/usr/bin/pulseaudio PUx,
The problem is that if we add PUx on pulseaudio as well as matching in
@{PROC}, this is likely too much privilege, especially if user's are
running qemu as root. Until there is proper support in the upstream
security driver framework, users will need to adjust the AppArmor
policy.
That said, we could adjust the policy to have the above as comments,
with an appropriate warning.

After X starts up, the mouse pointer has artefacts and keeps jumping around. I have tried this on the following guests with slightly varying symptoms: Arch Linux: extremely jumpy mouse to the point it was not usable, with xf86-video-vmware as vga driver. When I tried manually creating a file `10-monitor.conf' under /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ and setting the driver to 'vmware', X completely crashed and froze at checking the log for errors - did not even dump me at the terminal so that I could delete the file, which I subsequently did using a Maverick LiveCD. With the regular xf86 -video-cirrus driver, the screen freezes before X starts. Also, if I keep the xf86-video-vmware drivers and boot with -vga cirrus, I obtain sluggish performance as compared to xf86-video-cirrus. Debian Testing: more or less fine, except that video performance is sluggish; artefacts observed upon trying to save images to disk from firefox. I did not do further testing. Gentoo: the screen freezes before X starts, and I have to do a hard reboot. I did not install X on gentoo so I cannot comment on what would happen there. Slackware: the screen freezes before X starts. Works normally with -vga cirrus or -vga std. This seems to me an inherent problem with the vmware driver. I would like to be able to use the vmware driver, as it is the only one that seems to allow me to use high-definition graphics in the guests - performing an xrandr on both Arch and Debian showed me a max of 800*600 on Arch, and 1024*768 on Debian with the std or cirrus driver, while it finds all HD modes with the vmware driver. It would be nice if I can use the full potential of my machine when I am doing a hardware assisted virtualization, because that is what I want to see anyway. After more investigation it seems that the issue is triggered by managesieve: when managesieve is enabled dovecot forks multiple times which leads upstart to loose track of it. If managesieve is disabled upstart is correctly tracking dovecot. The posted debdiff fixes the problem. [Bug 648956] Re: dhcp through a bridge causes crash
I have since discovered that it is not DHCP that causes the crash, my laptop, with a static IP, causes the same crash as well. I don't see anything in syslog, but am not the greatest linux guy. @Robbie Williamson: Yes other distros have solved this. Like Arch. I switched my laptop to arch for that very reason. With Arch, I first have my shares that I want connected in fstab. The Ubuntu documentation is ample on the subject. Secondly, in Arch, netfs daemon is used to control connections to network shares. To avoid any problem, netfs can be managed by a script in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/ which both starts and stops netfs according to the state of the connection. As follows: #!/bin/sh IF=$1 # The interface which is brought up or down STATUS=$2 # The new state of the interface case "$STATUS" in 'up') # $IF is up exec /etc/rc.d/netfs start ;; 'down') # $IF is down exec /etc/rc.d/netfs stop ;; esac With such a setup, the shares are connected if there is a connection to the network and taken down with the connection. It is no longer a question of "timing" what comes first or second. Why Ubuntu couldn't carry such a solution is beyond me. This problem brought me to switch my laptop to Arch as no good solution was out there for Ubuntu. Cant't do it. I need multiple clients through one port and each needs their own tap device. We use broadcast/multi-cast and stuff like wireshark. So the scalable tun approach is not for us. I think that's the same issue as the debian bug mentioned above, and is probably an incompatibility between using inetd to spawn openvpn and the ipv6 patch from Debian. In openvpn 2.0, "Server Mode" can be used to serve multiple clients from a single port (with scalability in mind, so all client connections are routed through a single tun or tap interface). I tested the AMD64 build on Lucid today. It fixes the socket assertion failure but still features a regression relative to upstream. With the build from you PPA and the config file I provided I get the following in syslog: TLS: Initial packet from [AF_INET]192.5.38.152:49308, sid=713f6ed1 b48b32c4 Authenticate/Decrypt packet error: packet HMAC authentication failed TLS Error: incoming packet authentication failed from [AF_INET]192.5.38.152:49308 Fatal TLS error (check_tls_errors_co), restarting OpenVPN started by inetd/xinetd cannot restart... Exiting. - To fix it I had to comment out the "tls-auth" lines in my client and server configuration files. For example I commented this out in my server configuration file: # tls-auth /etc/openvpn/ta.key 0 # This file is secret After doing that it works like upstream, except I am not getting the PSK protection of the TLS negotiation. The classic init script had a do_stop that would run twice in a row

$PIDFILE --name ${DAEMON##*/}"... maybe that's why it succeeds in your
case.
