steps as detailed in this bug still required as first step of upgrade

expected behaviour in this scenario.

In my opinion, this bug can not be considered invalid: the upgrade process does
not take in account the new settings needed by lighttpd.
After upgrading, php stops working and It is needed a further intervention to
restore the situation.

[Bug 659975] Re: mailman breaks CC field incorrectly

2010-10-18 Thread James Page
OK; the key bit I missed was that the incorrectly parsed email address
was broken over two lines.

Using a standalone mailman + postfix setup on Hardy I have been able to
reproduce using the following procedure:

Install postfix and configure as final destination for .example.com
  Setup three users (user1, user2 and user3)
Install mailman and setup default (mailman) and test-list (with user1 as list
owner) list.
Configure Apache to allow administration of mail lists
Install and configure dovecot for local mail delivery.
Add user2 to the test-list mail list using the administration screens

Using the attached email (test.txt), simulate the offending use case
using the following command using the user1 account:

  telnet localhost 25 < test.txt

The posting to the test-list mailing list incorrectly has two emails
addresses:

Date: Mon, 18 Oct 2010 10:44:12 +0100 (BST)
From: us...@hardy-mailman.example.com
Cc: three ,

[Bug 662588] [NEW] tomcat6 6.0.28-7 FTBFS due to missing ant-trax.jar

2010-10-18 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

tomcat6 6.0.28-7 was synced from Debian however it fails to build from
source.

The reason is that ant-trax.jar is no longer provided by ant-optional:

ant (1.8.1-1) experimental; urgency=low
 .
   [ Niels Thykier ]
   * Replaced B-D on default-jdk-builddep with gcj-native-helper
 and default-jdk.
   * Bumped Standards-Versions to 3.9.0.
 - Reduced a Conflicts to a Breaks.
 .
   [ Torsten Werner ]
   * New upstream release
   * Update or remove our patches.
   * Do no longer install ant-stylebook.jar and ant-trax.jar because they are no
 longer built.
   * Remove Stefan from Uploaders list. Thanks to your contributions!

This can easily be fixed by depending on ant1.7-optional (which provide
the required /usr/share/java/ant-trax.jar), but would introduce a delta
with Debian, so I'll just check with Torsten that this is also the way
to fix it in Debian.

[Bug 659975] Re: mailman breaks CC field incorrectly

2010-10-18 Thread James Page
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: mailman

  Scenario:

When we send an email to a mailing list in either To: or Cc: header and
an address in Cc header with unquoted display name, mailman breaks that
into couple of addresses. For example:

  To: us...@domain1.com
  Cc: mailing-l...@domain1.com, display name

  It becomes:

  Cc: mailing-l...@domain1.com, display, name

This is wrong because "display" becomes a different address. There seems
  to be bug in /usr/lib/mailman/pythonlib/email/_parseaddr.py.

Same bug is reported in Debian and Redhat as well for 2.1.9 version of
  mailman.

[Bug 659975] Re: mailman breaks CC field incorrectly

2010-10-18 Thread James Page
** Description changed:

+ IMPACT:
+ The version of mail in 8.04 does not parse email addresses which are broken
over a '\n' correctly; as a result two emails are generated by the
AvoidDuplicates handler which is not correct:
+
+ Cc sent in email:
+
+ Cc: test-l...@hardy-mailman.example.com, "user two"
, user
+ three
+
+ Cc generated by AvoidDuplicates handler:
+
+ Cc: three ,
+ test-l...@hardy-mailman.example.com, u...@hardy-mailman.example.com
+
+ This is due to a bug in the bundled version (2.5.8) of the Python email
+ package that is distributed with this version of mailman.
+
+ FIX:
+ The _parseaddr.py function has been extracted from the bundled version of the
Python email package and patched to resolve this issue. This brings this
function in-line with later versions of Python.
+
+ This file resides in the debian directory is overlaid on-top of the
+ extracted tar.gz during the package build process.
+
+ In actual fact the version of Python distributed on 8.04 already
+ contains this fix; however I believe this approach is the least risk as
+ it is the most light touch.
+
+ PATCH:
+ See linked branch
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ Using a standalone mailman + postfix setup on Hardy use the following
procedure (generated from Ubuntu Server Guide):
+
+ Install postfix and configure as final destination for
.example.com
+ Setup three users (user1, user2 and user3)
+ Install mailman and setup default (mailman) and test-list (with user1 as
list owner) lists.
+ Configure Apache to allow administration of mail lists.
+ Install and configure dovecot for local mail delivery.
+ Add user2 to the test-list mail list using the administration screens.
+
+ Using the attached email (test.txt), simulate the offending use case
+ using the following command using the user1 account:
+
+ telnet localhost 25 < test.txt
+
+ REGRESSION POTENTIAL:
+ If other functions within mailman work around this bug they may be impacted
by this fix. Due to the bundling of this package the impact should be limited
to the mailman application.
+
+ ORIGINAL BUG REPORT:
+
  Binary package hint: mailman

  Scenario:

When we send an email to a mailing list in either To: or Cc: header and
an address in Cc header with unquoted display name, mailman breaks that
into couple of addresses. For example:

  To: us...@domain1.com
  Cc: mailing-l...@domain1.com, display name

  It becomes:

  Cc: mailing-l...@domain1.com, display, name

This is wrong because "display" becomes a different address. There seems
  to be bug in /usr/lib/mailman/pythonlib/email/_parseaddr.py.

Same bug is reported in Debian and Redhat as well for 2.1.9 version of
  mailman.

[Bug 660795] Re: package samba-common 2:3.4. 7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: el subp roceso script post-installation instalado devolvió el código de salida de error 1

2010-10-18 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Juan! Thank you for taking the time to submit this bug report and
help us make Ubuntu better.

This line in your DpkgTerminalLog suggests you may have deleted smb.conf
manually:

Configurando samba-common (2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2) ...
Not replacing deleted config file /etc/samba/smb.conf
Install/upgrade will fail. To recover, please try:
  sudo cp /usr/share/samba/smb.conf /etc/samba/smb.conf
  sudo dpkg --configure -a

Can you try the two sudo commands above and let us know your results
here?

Closing bug report, as the software seems to be functioning properly.

[Bug 660925] Re: package samba-common-bin 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2010-10-18 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Rick, thanks for taking the time to submit this report and work with
us to make Ubuntu better!

The most important part of the error message is this:

Setting up samba-common-bin (2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2) ...
update-alternatives: error: alternative path /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba3 doesn't
exist.
dpkg: error processing samba-common-bin (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

The file /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba3 is part of the samba-common-bin
package, so if it is missing, something has gone terribly wrong between
installing it and running the post-install script.

You may want to try re-downloading the package directly and forcibly
installing it with dpkg:

wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/samba-common-bin_3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i samba-common-bin_3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2_i386.deb
sudo dpkg --configure -a

Please give that a try and let us know here what happens.

Marking Incomplete pending response from rick leach.

[Bug 661666] Re: Add --with-curlwrappers to php5

2010-10-18 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Kalkin, thanks so much for taking the time to file this feature
request and make Ubuntu better!

According to at least a few users, using --with-curlwrapers does change
behavior significantly:

http://darkain.livejournal.com/492112.html
http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/153258/#74

I have not tested the issues outlined above, but I suspect it would
potentially cause regressions in peoples' apps that depend on wrappers
for HTTP access and expect certain behaviors.

Also I don't see a lot of good reasons to do it above, though maybe
others can chime in with enough reasons to warrant making a behavioral
change. Its early in natty's cycle, so now would be the time to give
people a chance to comment on it.

[Bug 662638] [NEW] Postinst fails if webapps/ROOT is a symlink

2010-10-18 Thread Disconnect
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

Ubuntu Lucid, amd64, tomcat6 6.0.24-2ubuntu1.4

For historic reasons, we have /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/ROOT as a symlink
into the deployed application. During postinst, dpkg fails:

Setting up tomcat6 (6.0.24-2ubuntu1.4) ...
cp: cannot overwrite non-directory `/var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/ROOT' with
directory `/usr/share/tomcat6/webapps/default_root'
dpkg: error processing tomcat6 (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 tomcat6

Unless there is a policy reason, I would expect the postinst to ignore
changes in /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps, especially since it is not listed
as part of the package upstream/static files (dpkg -L tomcat6 | grep
ROOT - no results)

[Bug 654249] Re: libnss-ldap create troubles in gnome session when ldap server is unreacheable

2010-10-18 Thread Etienne Goyer
By design, the NSS library is expecting the database to be available and
fast to query. When the NSS database become unresponsive (as is the
case when using libnss-ldap and the the LDAP directory become
unavailable), this assumption breaks and functions such as getpwnam()
blocks, which can cause any kinds of funny symptoms in the calling
application. This is not really a bug, more like a design flaw in NSS,
so there really isn't a good solution for that. If it was my call, I
would close this bug as Invalid, even though it is a very real problem,
because it is not strictly speaking a "bug", or at least not one we can
solve in the context of one specific package or library.

ld2ndR: the solution to your problem is to use a NSS backend that can
work offline, such as SSSD, libnss-ldapd or winbind. Using nscd may
help. You can also alleviate the symptoms somewhat by setting
bindpolicy to soft, and timelimit and bind_timelimit to low value in
/etc/ldap.conf.

[Bug 662578] Re: SNMP not able to poll basic mibs

2010-10-18 Thread Chuck Short
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Postfix cant determine your hostname, so it failed.
Postfix configuration was not changed. If you need to make changes, edit

/etc/postfix/main.cf (and others) as needed. To view Postfix
configuration

values, see postconf(1).

After modifying main.cf, be sure to run '/etc/init.d/postfix reload'.

[Bug 548885] Re: ntp host name not found error

2010-10-18 Thread Barry Fishman
My problem is fixed.

When I installed 10.10, I saw a similar problem, but noticed in syslog
the message:

Oct 18 19:49:07 ecube kernel: [209271.514454] type=1400
audit(1287445747.259:19): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" parent=1
profile="/usr/sbin/ntpd" name="/etc/resolv.conf-google" pid=3036
comm="ntpd" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=0 ouid=0

I had as my /etc/resolve.conf a soft link to /etc/resolv.conf-google.
Evidenlty apparmor does not allow
/usr/sbin/ntpd to run with resolver reference to /etc/resolv.conf-google. When
I had made /etc/ntpd a soft
link elsewhere there was no problem.

I now have a /etc/resolv.conf file and not a soft link, so things work
fine.
