Hello Juan! Thank you for taking the time to submit this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better. Hi Rick, thanks for taking the time to submit this report and work with us to make Ubuntu better! The most important part of the error message is this: Setting up samba-common-bin (2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.2) ... update-alternatives: error: alternative path /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba3 doesn't exist. dpkg: error processing samba-common-bin (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2 The file /usr/bin/nmblookup.samba3 is part of the samba-common-bin package, so if it is missing, something has gone terribly wrong between installing it and running the post-install script. [Bug 661666] Re: Add --with-curlwrappers to php5
Hi Kalkin, thanks so much for taking the time to file this feature request and make Ubuntu better! According to at least a few users, using --with-curlwrapers does change behavior significantly: http://darkain.livejournal.com/492112.html http://codeigniter.com/forums/viewthread/153258/#74 I have not tested the issues outlined above, but I suspect it would potentially cause regressions in peoples' apps that depend on wrappers for HTTP access and expect certain behaviors. Also I don't see a lot of good reasons to do it above, though maybe others can chime in with enough reasons to warrant making a behavioral change. Its early in natty's cycle, so now would be the time to give people a chance to comment on it. [Bug 654249] Re: libnss-ldap create troubles in gnome session when ldap server is unreacheable
By design, the NSS library is expecting the database to be available and fast to query. When the NSS database become unresponsive (as is the case when using libnss-ldap and the the LDAP directory become unavailable), this assumption breaks and functions such as getpwnam() blocks, which can cause any kinds of funny symptoms in the calling application. This is not really a bug, more like a design flaw in NSS, so there really isn't a good solution for that. If it was my call, I would close this bug as Invalid, even though it is a very real problem, because it is not strictly speaking a "bug", or at least not one we can solve in the context of one specific package or library. ld2ndR: the solution to your problem is to use a NSS backend that can work offline, such as SSSD, libnss-ldapd or winbind. Using nscd may help. You can also alleviate the symptoms somewhat by setting bindpolicy to soft, and timelimit and bind_timelimit to low value in /etc/ldap.conf. -- libnss-ldap create troubles in gnome session when ldap server is unreacheable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/654249 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. My problem is fixed. When I installed 10.10, I saw a similar problem, but noticed in syslog the message: Oct 18 19:49:07 ecube kernel: [209271.514454] type=1400 audit(1287445747.259:19): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" parent=1 profile="/usr/sbin/ntpd" name="/etc/resolv.conf-google" pid=3036 comm="ntpd" requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=0 ouid=0 I had as my /etc/resolve.conf a soft link to /etc/resolv.conf-google. Evidenlty apparmor does not allow /usr/sbin/ntpd to run with resolver reference to /etc/resolv.conf-google. When I had made /etc/ntpd a soft link elsewhere there was no problem. I now have a /etc/resolv.conf file and not a soft link, so things work fine. -- Barry Fishman -- ntp host name not found error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/548885 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
