to restore my system at this point is reinstalling which I have not done

[Bug 676672] Re: FTBFS on natty: SASL LDAP check fails (and other DSO problems)

2010-11-20 Thread Clint Byrum
Right, that was the original fail message. The problem is the ldap
module's configuration checks for sasl_version *in libldap* but it is a
function that should only be in libsasl2. Right after that, the
extension adds sasl2, not ldap:

  PHP_CHECK_LIBRARY(ldap, sasl_version,
  [
PHP_ADD_INCLUDE($LDAP_SASL_INCDIR)
PHP_ADD_LIBRARY_WITH_PATH(sasl2, $LDAP_SASL_LIBDIR, LDAP_SHARED_LIBADD)
AC_DEFINE(HAVE_LDAP_SASL, 1, [LDAP SASL support])
  ], [
AC_MSG_ERROR([LDAP SASL check failed. Please check config.log for more
information.])

Hence changing it to check against libsasl2... before adding.. libsasl2.

[Bug 677822] Re: [MIR] naturaldocs

2010-11-20 Thread Raphaël Pinson
I've searched a bit and found a few projects that generate their docs
with NaturalDocs. Among them are maatkit, mootools and quite a few web
projects. None of these are in main right now.

It is quite hard to guess which projects are using it because there is
no common way of recognizing files using NaturalDocs, and these files
are usually source code that might not be distributed in the debs. The
only simple way is to check for projects that publish NaturalDocs-
generated docs on the web, by searching for Generated by natural docs
on a search engine.

[Bug 620441] Re: MySQL upstart stop job does not cleanly shutdown mysql

2010-11-20 Thread Clint Byrum
** Description changed:

  Release:  Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
  Package Version: 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6

  Stopping a MySQL server can take some time, especially on a busy
  database. If mysqld gets killed while having open connections, then
  after the next start you will likely have a lot of tables corrupted.

  The new upstart mechanism for starting/stopping mysql unfortunately behaves
as follows on a service mysql stop:
  1. First it will send a TERM signal to mysqld which is perfectly fine as
mysqld will do the same as if you would issue a mysqladmin shutdown command
  2. If after 5 seconds the process is still not terminated, a KILL signal will
be send. This is really a very big issue since on busy servers lots of myisam
tables will be corrupted afterwards

  Expected behaviour:
  Send the term signal and wait for a certain amount of time (at least 1
minute). If still not stopped, then simply give an error about this to the user
+
+ == SRU REPORT ==
+
+ === IMPACT ===
+
+ This has very little impact on a normal running system. It may cause
+ shutdown to take up to 5 minutes, but that is an acceptable trade off as
+ recovering a system with crashed tables can take much, much longer.
+
+ === DEV FIX ===
+
+ Raising kill timeout to 300 seconds seems a good trade off between
+ shutdown potentially taking forever, and trying not to corrupt tables.
+
+ === PATCH ===
+
+ See merge proposal
+
+ === TEST CASE: ===
+
+ This is a race condition, so it is hard to reproduce reliably. However,
+ if you:
+
+ 1. create a very large innodb table
+ 2. import a lot of data (inserting more MB of data than your drives can write
in 5 seconds should work)
+ 3. run a very long select on the data in one thread (SELECT * FROM table
WHERE column like '%X%';)
+ 4. DELETE that data in another thread
+ 5. issue 'stop mysql' immediately after the delete returns.
+ 6. check to see that mysqld was sent SIGKILL in /var/log/daemon.log
+ 7. start mysql -- at this point InnoDB recovery will need to be run
+
+ Once the fix is applied, the SIGKILL should never be sent.
+
+ === REGRESSION POTENTIAL ===
+
+ The only regression potential is mentioned in the IMPACT section, that
+ the shutdown of a server or the mysql service may take up to 5 minutes.

[Bug 677822] Re: [MIR] naturaldocs

2010-11-20 Thread Raphaël Pinson
After further investigation, NaturalDocs is used by mostly web projects
(SOAP APIs, JavaScript libraries), few of them are in Ubuntu.

Other than that, I identified a few more projects in Ubuntu which use
NaturalDocs, such as skytools, xul-ext-firegpg, libsscm3, libfreebasic
or libfann1. All these packages are in universe though, and while it may
be interesting to write an email to ubuntu-devel to encourage the
maintainers to use the naturaldocs package to generate -doc packages, it
won't make this MIR more interesting for them.

That's it. I would really like to be able to activate the doc in augeas
though, all the more that documentation is quite important to be able to
use it efficiently.

[Bug 598908] Re: Unknown instance while restarting qemu-kvm

2010-11-20 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks, Sergey, that would make sense.

@Tomasz, what were you trying to do? There is not much point
in restarting qemu-kvm unless you want to reset KSM variables. If
so, then you must, as the error message said, use 'restart qemu-kvm'.

If you want to restart libvirt, then

restart libvirt-bin

[Bug 458637] Re: Windows Live Sign-In assistant prevents samba from accessing Windows 7 shares

2010-11-20 Thread Dave Tapuska
Since this bug is closed; should maverick-updates contain a samba
package? I can't seem to find the package this bug is fixed in.

[Bug 506865] Re: snmp-net not working with lm-sensors

2010-11-20 Thread undefined
i believe that the patch for net-snmp debian bug #575810 should have
included:

-+(subfeature-mapping == 0)
++(subfeature-type == (feature-type  8))

i agree with the bug report that subfeature-mapping == 0 causes snmpd
to only report the first feature, but the suggested/accepted patch
causes all subfeatures of all features to be reported, which is
definitely not the historical (ie debian lenny ubuntu hardy) behavior
of snmpd.

now every subfeature (eg fan1_input, fan1_min, fan1_div  fan1_alarm) of
every feature (eg fan1) is reported, and to a casual observer they are
indistinguishable in the snmpd output because they are only identified
with the feature's name (eg fan1; ie label = sensors_get_label(chip,
feature)).

what i believe was intended by the original code (ie
subfeature-mapping == 0) was that only the first subfeature of each
feature would be reported (eg fan1_input), because that's the historical
output of snmpd and the primary output of the sensors command (eg the
other subfeatures are printed following fan1_input and within parens).

a quick hack to enable that functionality is subfeature-type ==
(feature-type 8). this is based off how sensors.h (lines 148-204)
spaces the subfeatures (line 148: All the sensor types (in, fan, temp,
vid) are a multiple of 0x100 apart) and how that is based off the
associated feature (line 151: SENSORS_SUBFEATURE_IN_INPUT =
SENSORS_FEATURE_IN  8).

a more thorough patch would probably be logic similar to the sensors
command (ie for every feature [fan1] query what type it is
[SENSORS_FEATURE_FAN] and pull the appropriate subfeature by name
[SENSORS_SUBFEATURE_FAN_INPUT]), but that patch is much more invasive,
though it would also eliminate the imperfect guessing of feature type by
label (ie lmSensors.c, lines 973-996; eg if (strstr(label, V)) type =
VOLT_TYPE;).

the attached files show the bad snmpwalk output of the proposed (and
apparently accepted in maverick) patch and the good snmpwalk output of
my proposed patch (which is also attached as a patch to
60_libsensors_api.patch).
