[Bug 533601] Re: Apport hook for bind9

Also, there is no need to use root_command_output -- "/usr/sbin/named
-v" works fine as user. Also, it's redundant, since we already have the
package version in Apport reports. Also, the related package info and
syslog stuff are currently covered in the "else" branch, but should be
unconditional.

[Bug 675448] Re: ssh does not authenticate against kerberos

2010-11-26 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Conclusion:

the handbook shall state:

1. make sure your DNS configuration is correct. It is enough to test on *all*
clients:
  - host fqdn
  - host shortname (without domain)
  - host ipaddr
  should handle you the same address and name!

2. make sure your localhost is correct
  - host localhost
  - host 127.0.0.1
  should handle you the same address and name!

3. make sure you entered the fqdn creating credentials.

4. make sure you entered the fqdn exporting keys.

5. while it is recommended to create one key table per service, not all
services are configurable where they look for this key table. Some
assume "/etc/krb5.keytab" blindly. You'll have to export keys into this
one file for these.

6. make sure all parts of kerberos are most actual.

[Bug 675448] Re: ssh does not authenticate against kerberos

2010-11-26 Thread Thomas Schweikle
7. This goes out to the maintainer of the package: make the
configuration as minimal as possible. No stuff not necessary (except
comments). No useless entries. This is especially true for
"/etc/krb5.conf"! It isn't helpful at all having a bloated configuration
if you're looking for something like kerberos getting it to work.

Some useful configuration could be:

- snipp
-
[libdefaults]
default_realm = LOCAL

# The following krb5.conf variables are only for MIT Kerberos.
krb4_config = /etc/krb.conf
krb4_realms = /etc/krb.realms
kdc_timesync = 1
ccache_type = 4
forwardable = true
proxiable = true

# The following libdefaults parameters are only for Heimdal Kerberos.
v4_instance_resolve = false
v4_name_convert = {
host = {
rcmd = host
ftp = ftp
}
plain = {
something = something-else
}
}
fcc-mit-ticketflags = true

[realms]
LOCAL = {
kdc = auth.local
admin_server = auth.local
}

[domain_realm]
.local = LOCAL
local = LOCAL

[login]
krb4_convert = true
krb4_get_tickets = false

[logging]
default = FILE:/var/log/kerberos/krb5lib.log
- snapp
-

The domain could be derived from the computers domain while installing.
The realm could be the uppercase of this domain.

The original file is, in my humble opinion, worth to be installed into
"/usr/share/doc/krb5-config" (or the like).

Status in "samba" package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
there are only 2 accounts I use my ubuntu 9.04, Root to perform my admin
duties and my other account "JC".

Now when I have went over much literature getting to try and work but this
seems to be a bug to me.. this is the issue;

In the /home folder i have one folder which is my 'jc' folder.

under my 'jc' folder i have attempted to 'share' my Documents folder and my
Videos/Pictures/Music folders by right clicking on the folder, selecting
sharing options, then selecting and checking off "share this folder" and
'allow other people to write to this folder' and 'Guest access (for people
without a user account).

I have also edited the /etc/samba/smb.conf as has been discussed on the
ubuntu forums only changing in the file the workgroup to the workgroup i run
called "The_Resistance".

Now this is the bug.. after i set these settings, I reboot to ensure they
are saved.. i come back into ubuntu desktop, go look at the folders I just
shared to check their share settings and the "allow other people to write in
this folder" is now NOT checked on any of the folders i shared.

>From an XP computer I can't view folders that have files in them, however,
i can enter folders that are empty. if thru XP i enter a folder that has
files in on the ubuntu side, network neighbourhood in xp gives me the
hourglass and then says an error has occured and the volume is no longer
available.

>From the ubuntu side, when I view files on the XP SP2 computer .. i can
view the files but can't copy them or anythning.. I can just view the files
in the directory.

So basically I am unable to copy files back and forth between the two
somewhat networked machines. I am able to view only empty folders in XP to
Ubuntu and in Ubuntu to XP I can only see what's in the XP folders but nto
copy them or view them when they are double clcked. The ubuntu system just
stays stagnant. then I eventually have to close the window.

you can email me at filivs_prodi...@rogers.com. Please fix this, I love
this ubuntu.. i really do.. and your MO and not being a evil microsoft type
company and your philosophy. Please tell me how to fix this if it isn't a
bug and just a matter of settings between the the XP machine and the Ubuntu
Machine.. TIA

Regards,

Filippo

[Bug 677413] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.37-1ubuntu5.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2010-11-26 Thread Clint Byrum
Adnan, thanks for the reply!

Can you try pinging / logging into the mysql server after you start it?

# mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf ping
mysqld is alive

And if so, then do

/bin/sh -x /etc/init.d/mysqld stop

And paste the output here?

Thanks!
