[Bug 703811] Re: kvm guest's cpu usage with virtio storage driver goes up to 100% because of flush process

2011-01-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and make Ubuntu better.

I've not sseen this behavior locally using virtio back-ends in Lucid. I
wonder whether the software raid could have something to do with it. Is
there any way you could hook up another disk, without raid, and try to
reproduce?

2011-01-19 Thread Roman R
Thank You for reply.

Actually i was thinking the same about software raid.
I will try kvm on my laptop and see if the problem still exists.
cant try on same server atm, there are some virtual m$ servers, which are in
use.
i will report as soon as i can.

What we could do if it is all about software raid?

[Bug 703959] Re: execscript is run too early

2011-01-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
Indeed, looking at the lucid source, I see that the post_install() calls
the execscripts before the --only-chroot checks, whereas
hypervisor.py:install_os(), which installs the bootloader, gets called
after.

I assume it's there for a reason so don't want to blindly move it.
Would like guidance from Soren: was the intent of execscripts to be
called after full os install, or after initial chroot build? Should a
new --os-execripts or somesuch option be added to allow scripts to be
called after full OS install?

As a workaround you should be able to have the early execscript create
an /etc/default/grub, though I'm not sure whether dpkg would then
require interaction to ask whether to use your existing
/etc/default/grub.

Next it would be helpful to test (separately) both the latest

The most recent qemu-kvm upstream build is at

The kernel daily build is at

It is for natty, but should work fine in maverick. You can just download

Thanks,

Hi Lepus,

please try doing an

   apt-get purge tftpd-hpa

to remove the bad configuration, and let us know whether that allows you
to proceed.

This fix is needed for Lucid as well.

I have a clustered filesystem that fails because of this bug. It relies
upon the hostname value always being set correctly.

[Bug 703462] Re: package tftpd-hpa 5.0-11ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: el paquete tftpd-hpa no está listo para configurarse no se puede configurar (estado actual `half-installed')

2011-01-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Your apttermlog shows:

/etc/default/tftpd-hpa line 10 '-s'

Which must have some local customizations, as the /etc/default/tftpd-hpa
provided with the lucid tftpd-hpa package only has 6 lines.

If I understand right and you just wanted to remove it, then please do

apt-get purge tftpd-hpa

which should remove that file and any other remaining tftpd-hpa
configuration.

Please let us know whether this solves your problem.

2011-01-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

It looks like you have some files (or perhaps a full package) left over
from a much older autofs installation.

You might be able to remove that using

apt-get purge autofs autofs4

If that doesn't work, then please do

dpkg -l | grep autofs

and then

   dpkg -P packagename

for each entry you see.

Please do reply if you have any further questions.

[Bug 596993] Re: hostname handling needs improvement for elastic-ip and ebs start-stop

2011-01-19 Thread Gerry Reno
As the ec2 meta-data, local-hostname, returns the long form of hostname,
I would also propose that an enhancement that a new ec2 meta-data attribute be
added:

 local-shortname

that would return the short version of hostname such as is returned from
'hostname -s' on a properly configured system.

This would make it easier for users to get the hostname format that they
need.

[Bug 596993] Re: hostname handling needs improvement for elastic-ip and ebs start-stop

2011-01-19 Thread Gerry Reno
Now since my cluster filesystem starts real early in the bootup (S20) I
need the hostname to be set correctly even earlier.

So that would probably require some upstart job to run at S10.

So now I need to see how cloud-init is doing this and if it is early in
the bootup.

Gerry,
Please open a new bug for whatever you see is not functioning correctly
in uname/hostname output. The first step is to get it fixed in the
development release (natty) then we can work on backporting.
We can pull back the behavioral change made in this bug back to lucid,
but for other issues, please open new bugs.
   Thank you for your interest.
