[Bug 569757] Re: NIS upstart dependancy broken for lucid
I wanted to add "cron" to the list of things that have a race condition with NIS on startup, as I don't think cron has been mentioned in any of the other postings on this issue. If a NIS user has installed a crontab on a NIS client, and NIS has not started by the time cron starts, the result is that user's crontab will be ignored (the condition is logged in the system logs). The user then has to manually resubmit the crontab before cron will reconsider it. [Bug 652433] Re: Init script dependency error: krb5-kdc starts before slapd
Ok, so now I'm confused. This should have been fixed in Debian, as Sam Hartman shows us, here: krb5 (1.8.1+dfsg-3) unstable; urgency=high * CVE-2010-1321 GSS-API accept sec context null pointer deref, Closes: #582261 * Force use of bash for build, Closes: #581473 * Start slapd before krb5 when krb5-kdc-ldap installed, Closes: #582122 -- Sam Hartman Wed, 19 May 2010 16:37:36 -0400 Testing this on natty by installing krb5-kdc-ldap, and then slapd: # ls -l /etc/rc2.d total 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 677 Nov 1 09:36 README lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Feb 4 07:55 S18krb5-kdc -> ../init.d/krb5-kdc lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Feb 4 07:56 S19slapd -> ../init.d/slapd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Nov 2 09:51 S99ondemand -> ../init.d/ondemand lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Nov 2 09:51 S99rc.local -> ../init.d/rc.local The problem is that the override isn't being respected, because it relies on insserv being called. insserv isn't called, because on Ubuntu systems, legacy-bootordering is the norm, so this override will not help unfortunately. If I manually run 'insserv' as root, this does reorder things: # ls -l /etc/rc2.d total 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 677 Nov 1 09:36 README lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Feb 4 08:04 S01slapd -> ../init.d/slapd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Feb 4 08:04 S02krb5-kdc -> ../init.d/krb5-kdc lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Feb 4 08:04 S03ondemand -> ../init.d/ondemand lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Feb 4 08:04 S03rc.local -> ../init.d/rc.local So, this is really caused by Ubuntu's sysv-rc disabling insserv. Since Ubuntu has chosen a different boot, this is just going to be something we have to maintain delta for I think. In this case I think the right fix for Ubuntu is going to be to add this to krb5-kdc-slapd's postinst: update-rc.d slapd remove update-rc.d slapd start 17 2 3 4 5 . stop 19 0 1 6 . Either way, I have to agree that I was wrong, and this does have a solution and so can be set to Confirmed. I'll also raise the importance to Low, because the default config does not work in what would probably be a very common use case (kdc on the same box as ldap). The workaround, btw, is to run the two update-rc.d commands above, or 'insserv'. ** CVE added: http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi- bin/cvename.cgi?name=2010-1321 ** Changed in: krb5 (Ubuntu) Status: Opinion => Confirmed ** Changed in: krb5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to krb5 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652433 Title: Init script dependency error: krb5-kdc starts before slapd -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 668043] Re: libvirt default network doesn't start, iptables errors, bad rules
I installed this patch late last night, and got the error error: internal error '/sbin/iptables --table mangle --delete POSTROUTING --out-interface virbr0 --protocol udp --destination-port 68 --jump CHECKSUM --checksum-fill' exited with non-zero status 2 and signal 0: iptables v1.4.4: unknown option `--checksum-fill' I also confirmed that the interface was not started. I tried more than once, just to be sure. However, I tried again this morning, and it worked, the interface was created, and no errors were reported. The host has been running without reboot since last night, and before the patch was applied, no other updates have been applied. I can see that apparmor did a "profile_replace" on libvirt some time after it was started, I don't know much about apparmor, but is it possible this should have been reloaded or something? But since multiple dnsmasq processes share the standard lease file it's possible that more leases are already in the lease file than the newly configured network yielding an error when the new dnsmasq tries to start: dnsmasq: too many stored leases Steps to Reproduce: 1. define a /24 network in libvirt 2. obtain (or simulate by populating the leases file) 30 leases 3. define a second /28 network Actual results: libvirtd will report: 09:46:47.004: error : virRunWithHook:857 : internal error '/usr/sbin/dnsmasq --strict-order --bind-interfaces --pid-file=/var/run/libvirt/network/test.pid --conf-file= --listen-address 10.0.1.1 --except-interface lo --dhcp-range 10.0.1.1,10.0.1.14 --dhcp-lease-max=14' exited with non-zero status 5 and signal 0: dnsmasq: too many stored leases ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: libvirt-bin 0.8.3-1ubuntu14 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-24.42-generic 2.6.35.8 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-24-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Feb 4 07:53:44 2011 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: libvirt ** Affects: libvirt Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 maverick -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713071 Title: dnsmasq option --dhcp-lease-max prevents startup for more than 1 network -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
Re: [Bug 668043] Re: libvirt default network doesn't start, iptables errors, bad rules
On Thu, 2011-02-03 at 21:04 +, Serge Hallyn wrote: > (If it did in fact fail, then I'll revert the offending patch > http://libvirt.org/git/?p=libvirt.git;a=commitdiff;h=fd5b15ff1a2ec37e75609c091522ae1e2c74c811 > as per http://bugs.gentoo.org/334921. Please take note that the fix that I supplied does nothing about addressing this issue because it should not be an issue. First of all, the fix I supplied only deals with error: libvirtError: internal error '/sbin/iptables --table filter --delete INPUT --in-interface virbr0 --protocol udp --destination-port 69 --jump ACCEPT' exited with non-zero status 1 and signal 0: iptables: Bad rule (does a matching rule exist in that chain?). This other error that Alle is getting: error: internal error '/sbin/iptables --table mangle --delete POSTROUTING --out-interface virbr0 --protocol udp --destination-port 68 --jump CHECKSUM --checksum-fill' exited with non-zero status 2 and signal 0: iptables v1.4.4: unknown option `--checksum-fill' Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information. is not an actual error condition in the libvrit (0.8.3-1ubuntu14) that I am looking at. The only code that I can find that tries to add a checksum rule for port 68 is in networkAddIptablesRules() in the file src/network/bridge_driver.c: if ((network->def->ipAddress || network->def->nranges) && (iptablesAddOutputFixUdpChecksum(driver->iptables, network->def->bridge, 68) != 0)) { VIR_WARN("Could not add rule to fixup DHCP response checksums " "on network '%s'.", network->def->name); VIR_WARN0("May need to update iptables package & kernel to support CHECKSUM rule."); } Note that failure of iptablesAddOutputFixUdpChecksum() only emits warnings. The actual error string that Alle is seeing comes from virRunWithHook() which is called to through the following sequence of functions: iptablesAddOutputFixUdpChecksum iptablesOutputFixUdpChecksum iptablesAddRemoveRule virRun virRunWithHook which propagates an error back up the stack to networkAddIptablesRules() but per the above code snippet, the error is discarded and a couple of warning messages have been printed. At this point, seeing as there are two different issues in this one ticket, I would suggest that Alle open a new ticket covering the second issue. I suspect that Alle's network is failing to come up for a reason other than the message he is seeing and the message that he sees just happens to be the last message printed. I have been fooled by libvirt's lack of printing error messages and misunderstanding that the last message it did print is not in fact what was causing the failure. I would suggest that Alle runs libvirtd in the foreground with some debug/verbosity perhaps to get to the real root of his problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/668043 Title: libvirt default network doesn't start, iptables errors, bad rules -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
