[Bug 615077] Re: [Maverick] SDL local window broken in last update

2011-02-04 Thread dave b.
I gave libvirt access to my .Xauthority file and then tried via virt-
manager to launch a vm using a local sdl window. I opened virt-manager
with --debug.

On 'starting the vm' I got an error message like this:
"commandline read: virtio-blk-pci,b : Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/engine.py", line 808, in run_domain

if ret == -1: raise libvirtError ('virDomainCreate() failed', dom=self)
libvirtError: internal error process exited while connecting to monitor: char
device redirected to /dev/pts/18

(the vm doesn't boot).

Not really. KVM module bugs should be reported to the kernel's bug

Re: [Bug 652433] Re: Init script dependency error: krb5-kdc starts before slapd

2011-02-04 Thread Sam Hartman
I'm not against including a patch in the Debian package to reduce Ubuntu
deltas. I want to make sure that things continue to work if inserv is
used as that's where Debian is going. If we can preserve that, I think
that having a patch mostly intended for Ubuntu is fine.

2011-02-04 Thread Jamie Strandboge
So after clearing some space and running the identical test I did in
comment #19 I had no errors after 64 runs. So without ecryptfs and with
wired networking it seems ok. I am going to run the same test but with
wireless instead of wired and see what happens.

[Bug 713237] [NEW] shutdown segv due to race w/ free_waiter threads

2011-02-04 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: multipath-tools

I received a coredump from a customer (running a lucid-based system).
Analyzing the core from multipathd shows that we are crashing in
waiter.c::free_waiter().

void free_waiter (void *data)
{
 struct event_thread *wp = (struct event_thread *)data;

 /*
  * indicate in mpp that the wp is already freed storage
  */
 lock(wp->vecs->lock);

 if (wp->mpp)
  /*
   * be careful, mpp may already be freed -- null if so
   */
  wp->mpp->waiter = NULL;
 else
  condlog(3, "free_waiter, mpp freed before wp=%p,", wp);

 unlock(wp->vecs->lock); <<< Crashing here

 if (wp->dmt)
  dm_task_destroy(wp->dmt);

 FREE(wp);
}

The lock is NULL:

(gdb) print wp->vecs->lock
$3 = (pthread_mutex_t *) 0x0

This appears to be the upstream issue fixed here:
http://git.kernel.org/gitweb.cgi?p=linux/storage/multipath-tools/.git;a=commitdiff;h=a403f57b991f3be7c7ea6250d95fad1554c9d6ca

This fix is currently missing from all versions of multipath-tools in
lucid->natty.

(The original customer issue was filed in the private bug #712875.)

[Bug 569757] Re: NIS upstart dependancy broken for lucid

2011-02-04 Thread JimWright
I wanted to add "cron" to the list of things that have a race condition
with NIS on startup, as I don't think cron has been mentioned in any of
the other postings on this issue. If a NIS user has installed a crontab
on a NIS client, and NIS has not started by the time cron starts, the
result is that user's crontab will be ignored (the condition is logged
in the system logs). The user then has to manually resubmit the crontab
before cron will reconsider it.

Regards, Jim.

[Bug 652433] Re: Init script dependency error: krb5-kdc starts before slapd

2011-02-04 Thread Clint Byrum
Ok, so now I'm confused. This should have been fixed in Debian, as Sam
Hartman shows us, here:

krb5 (1.8.1+dfsg-3) unstable; urgency=high

  * CVE-2010-1321 GSS-API accept sec context null pointer deref, Closes:
#582261
  * Force use of bash for build, Closes: #581473
  * Start slapd before krb5 when krb5-kdc-ldap installed, Closes:
#582122

 -- Sam Hartman   Wed, 19 May 2010 16:37:36 -0400

Testing this on natty by installing krb5-kdc-ldap, and then slapd:

# ls -l /etc/rc2.d
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 677 Nov  1 09:36 README
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  18 Feb  4 07:55 S18krb5-kdc -> ../init.d/krb5-kdc
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  15 Feb  4 07:56 S19slapd -> ../init.d/slapd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  18 Nov  2 09:51 S99ondemand -> ../init.d/ondemand
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  18 Nov  2 09:51 S99rc.local -> ../init.d/rc.local

The problem is that the override isn't being respected, because it
relies on insserv being called. insserv isn't called, because on Ubuntu
systems, legacy-bootordering is the norm, so this override will not help
unfortunately. If I manually run 'insserv' as root, this does reorder
things:

# ls -l /etc/rc2.d
total 4
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 677 Nov  1 09:36 README
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  15 Feb  4 08:04 S01slapd -> ../init.d/slapd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  18 Feb  4 08:04 S02krb5-kdc -> ../init.d/krb5-kdc
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  18 Feb  4 08:04 S03ondemand -> ../init.d/ondemand
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  18 Feb  4 08:04 S03rc.local -> ../init.d/rc.local

So, this is really caused by Ubuntu's sysv-rc disabling insserv. Since
Ubuntu has chosen a different boot, this is just going to be something
we have to maintain delta for I think.

In this case I think the right fix for Ubuntu is going to be to add this to
krb5-kdc-slapd's postinst:
update-rc.d slapd remove
update-rc.d slapd start 17 2 3 4 5 . stop 19 0 1 6 .

Either way, I have to agree that I was wrong, and this does have a
solution and so can be set to Confirmed. I'll also raise the importance
to Low, because the default config does not work in what would probably
be a very common use case (kdc on the same box as ldap).

The workaround, btw, is to run the two update-rc.d commands above, or
'insserv'.

[Bug 713204] [NEW] package backuppc 3.1.0-9ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-02-04 Thread John Brown
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: backuppc

I was using Ubuntu Software Centre to install BackupPC, but the script
failed. I suspect it was because although I'd installed Apache, I had
not yet set up Apache2 config files - I've been using lighttpd instead.
So when the script tried to restart the web server it failed. Maybe a
bit more clarity about the dependencies on the Info page would be
useful. I'll try to get Apache2 working properly and then do a re-
install from Ubuntu Software Centre.

[Bug 668043] Re: libvirt default network doesn't start, iptables errors, bad rules

2011-02-04 Thread Bill Burman
I installed this patch late last night, and got the error

error: internal error '/sbin/iptables --table mangle --delete
POSTROUTING --out-interface virbr0 --protocol udp --destination-port 68
--jump CHECKSUM --checksum-fill' exited with non-zero status 2 and
signal 0: iptables v1.4.4: unknown option `--checksum-fill'

I also confirmed that the interface was not started. I tried more than
once, just to be sure.

However, I tried again this morning, and it worked, the interface was
created, and no errors were reported.

The host has been running without reboot since last night, and before
the patch was applied, no other updates have been applied.

I can see that apparmor did a "profile_replace" on libvirt some time
after it was started, I don't know much about apparmor, but is it
possible this should have been reloaded or something? This is the only
thing I can see in my logs that might have changed between it not
working and now, when it does.

Yes, that would be ideal. The problem is that I can't ask for this

Still,

It will not be duplication. These are development lists, not support

(c) anyone is currently working on support for via nano, and
(d) how others can help.

[Bug 712878] Re: KVM guest hangs on 'booting from hard disk' 10.10 for guest and host.

2011-02-04 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Are you able to boot from an install .iso, install a VM, and reboot into
that working VM? In other words, is it only images built by vmbuilder
which fail to boot?

Can you give us the precise vmbuilder command you are using to create
the VMs which do not boot?

I would if I could but I can't because my libvirt has other patches
(i.e. bug 713071) for bugs which I have run into and filed reports
upstream in my libvirt. Running your above packages would break my
installation by triggering these other bugs.

Maybe if you can produce a package that also includes the above fix I
can test it.

[Bug 713071] [NEW] dnsmasq option --dhcp-lease-max prevents startup for more than 1 network

2011-02-04 Thread Brian J. Murrell
Public bug reported:

If one configures more than one network to use DHCP, multiple dnsmasq
processes are started, one for each network. The problem is that each
process has --dhcp-lease-max configured for the number of leases in it's
own network. But since multiple dnsmasq processes share the standard
lease file it's possible that more leases are already in the lease file
than the newly configured network yielding an error when the new dnsmasq
tries to start:

dnsmasq: too many stored leases

Steps to Reproduce:
1. define a /24 network in libvirt
2. obtain (or simulate by populating the leases file) 30 leases
3. define a second /28 network

Actual results:
libvirtd will report:

09:46:47.004: error : virRunWithHook:857 : internal error '/usr/sbin/dnsmasq
--strict-order --bind-interfaces --pid-file=/var/run/libvirt/network/test.pid

> as per http://bugs.gentoo.org/334921.

Please take note that the fix that I supplied does nothing about
addressing this issue because it should not be an issue.

First of all, the fix I supplied only deals with error:

libvirtError: internal error '/sbin/iptables --table filter --delete
INPUT --in-interface virbr0 --protocol udp --destination-port 69 --jump
ACCEPT' exited with non-zero status 1 and signal 0: iptables: Bad rule
(does a matching rule exist in that chain?).

This other error that Alle is getting:

error: internal error '/sbin/iptables --table mangle --delete POSTROUTING
--out-interface virbr0 --protocol udp --destination-port 68 --jump CHECKSUM
--checksum-fill' exited with non-zero status 2 and signal 0: iptables v1.4.4:
unknown option `--checksum-fill'
Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information.

is not an actual error condition in the libvrit (0.8.3-1ubuntu14) that I
am looking at. The only code that I can find that tries to add a
checksum rule for port 68 is in networkAddIptablesRules() in the file
src/network/bridge_driver.c:

if ((network->def->ipAddress || network->def->nranges) &&
(iptablesAddOutputFixUdpChecksum(driver->iptables,
 network->def->bridge, 68) != 0)) {
VIR_WARN("Could not add rule to fixup DHCP response checksums "
 "on network '%s'.", network->def->name);
VIR_WARN0("May need to update iptables package & kernel to support
CHECKSUM rule.");
}

Note that failure of iptablesAddOutputFixUdpChecksum() only emits
warnings.

The actual error string that Alle is seeing comes from virRunWithHook()
which is called to through the following sequence of functions:

iptablesAddOutputFixUdpChecksum
iptablesOutputFixUdpChecksum
iptablesAddRemoveRule
virRun
virRunWithHook

which propagates an error back up the stack to networkAddIptablesRules()
but per the above code snippet, the error is discarded and a couple of
warning messages have been printed.

At this point, seeing as there are two different issues in this one
ticket, I would suggest that Alle open a new ticket covering the second
issue.

I suspect that Alle's network is failing to come up for a reason other
than the message he is seeing and the message that he sees just happens
to be the last message printed. I have been fooled by libvirt's lack of
printing error messages and misunderstanding that the last message it
did print is not in fact what was causing the failure.

I would suggest that Alle runs libvirtd in the foreground with some
debug/verbosity perhaps to get to the real root of his problem.
