[Bug 743484] [NEW] libupsclient.pc contains unresolved symbols

2011-03-27 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nut

Hi,

While I was investigating a FTBFS in collectd:
...
configure:22249: checking for upscli_connect in -lupsclient
configure:22274: i686-linux-gnu-gcc -o conftest -Wall -g -O2
-I/build/fabrice-collectd_4.10.1-2.1build1-i386-7yH3eE/collectd-4.10.1/debian/include
 -DLT_LAZY_OR_NOW='RTLD_LAZY|RTLD_GLOBAL' -UCONFIGFILE
-DCONFIGFILE='/etc/collectd/collectd.conf'   -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions
@LIBSSL_LDFLAGS@ -L/lib -lupsclient   conftest.c -lupsclient  -ldl  5
i686-linux-gnu-gcc: @LIBSSL_LDFLAGS@: No such file or directory
I discovered that this reference to LIBSSL_LDFLAGS comes from libupsclient.pc.

As you can see in actual .pc file, this reference has not been resolved at
compile time (content of more /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libupsclient.pc in a natty
schroot):
prefix=/usr
exec_prefix=/
libdir=/lib
includedir=/usr/include
sysconfdir=/etc/nut
statepath=/var/run/nut
nutuser=nut

Name: libupsclient
Description: UPS monitoring with Network UPS Tools
Version: 2.6.0
Libs: -L${libdir} -lupsclient @LIBSSL_LDFLAGS@
Cflags: -I${includedir}

This is because configure script and all makefile.in has been updated to use
and substitute LIBSSL_LIBS instead of LIBSSL_LDFLAGS, but libupsclient.pc.in
has not been updated.
By replacing LIBSSL_LDFLAGS with LIBSSL_LIBS in .in files, the generated .pc
file is correct.

Thanks,
Fabrice

[Bug 394350] Re: RLimitCPU has no effect in Apache

2011-03-27 Thread Neil Van Dyke
I was asked privately whether I found a solution. We wasted too much
time trying to convince people that we had a credible problem report,
and then it seemed that no one was prepared to actually do anything with
the information. After that time waste, we decided to give up on
RLimitCPU on Ubuntu, and focused our energies elsewhere.

[Bug 684816] Re: Node Controller (NC) fail to register

2011-03-27 Thread Teej
Actually I seemed to have asked about 10.10, but looking at the bug description
again you already stated it was 10.10 that you were using, sorry about that. I
have marked this bug as Triaged as there is quite a bit of information here and
I believe there is enough information from yourself to pass this on to the
developers.
Eucalyptus uses Launchpad as its bug tracker, so there is no need to send this
anywhere else, and a developer should be looking into this issue soon. If you
get no response from a developer, nudge us at #ubuntu-bugs on irc.freenode.net
and we can look into it further.
Thank you again for reporting this to us, and please continue to report any
other bugs you may find!

actually no.. same issue: when i start the system, only smbd is loaded as
process. when looking at /var/run/samba it is active and populated with no
nmbd PID file. only when I switch to console and run 'sudo start nmbd' that
it loads a process and assigns PID to it.

when I restart or shutdown system and boot again.. nmbd isn't there
anymore

[Bug 743858] [NEW] sshd not appending to /var/log/btmp

2011-03-27 Thread Moses Moore
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
$ ssh badname@localhost # hit 'enter' three times to fail logging in.
$ sudo lastb

Expected outcome:
lastb reports something similar to:

just as it does when a bad login attempt is made using /bin/login, or when
using sshd on other distributions of linux (CentOS, Fedora, Arch, SUSE, ...etc)

[Bug 743858] Re: sshd not appending to /var/log/btmp

2011-03-27 Thread Moses Moore
A known quirk of sshd in other distros is that sshd will refuse to write
to world- or group-readable /var/log/btmp. The fix for this is 'chmod
0600 /var/log/btmp'.

Ubuntu Linux installs /var/log/btmp with permissions 0660 (aka -rw-
rw). I already changed permissions to 0600 (aka -rw---) and
/var/log/btmp is still unaffected by bad login attempts via sshd.

With what little knowledge of Linux that I have I'd say you are correct
because when the new sensors appear they do so with default colors as

So does that mean it must be reported as a libsensors bug?

distros ship pkg-config, which is really better in all conceivable ways.
* Speaking of pkg-config, this does *not* ship a .pc file (it lives in
mozilla-central/xulrunner/installer). Would you take a patch to add one, say
spidermonkey-185.pc?

 Colin -- I checked in configure in purpose - it's part of the source tarball
 (which is what that repo tracks). The idea is to eliminate autoconf-2.13 as a
 dependency for projects embedding SpiderMonkey and building from (or
 incorporating) the source tarball.

Normal practice is to only ship generated files in the foo.tar.gz, not
in revision control. In the same way that firefox-4.0.source.tar.bz2
includes configure, but mozilla-central doesn't.

[Bug 740815]

2011-03-27 Thread Chris Coulson
I've actually packaged this in Ubuntu now, but I hit a couple of
unexpected issues:

1) js-config --libs doesn't return the right linker flags (-lmozjs)

2) Even though it builds an ABI versioned so, the soname of the
resulting ELF binary is still unversioned (ie, libmozjs185.so rather
than libmozjs185.so.1.0). This would mean we couldn't support multiple
ABI's, which would make it difficult to do an ABI transition in the
future.

I have patches for both of these problems, although the patch for 2) is
a bit hacky.

[Bug 740815]

2011-03-27 Thread Wes Garland
Chris -- argh, thanks for catching the js-config bug. I'll be cutting a
new release to address that specific issue RSN.

Thanks also for your SONAME patch: that's something I don't have a lot
of experience with.

Mike -- I named the library libmozjs185.so rather than libmozjs.so
specifically because it doesn't work as a drop-in for any previously-
released libmozjs.so (not even close -- see the release notes).

Versioning the spidermonkey library based on the JavaScript version it
implements (1.8.5) doesn't make much sense to me; I prefer to think of
this as version 1.0.0 of the library which implements JavaScript 1.8.5.
Trying to connect solib versioning with language versioning has, at
least in the past, been completely and utterly futile.

Thanks for pointing out the header bug, BTW. I agree that it should be
fixed, and in fact tried to fix it in the past. Maybe now that I know
my way around better I can try again.

Since we're deliberately changing the name, maybe libspidermonkey is a
better name? I agree that putting 185 in the name isn't good. When we
change to 1.9.0, would we have to change the SO name? That can't be
right.

I believe that the 1.8.5 numbering scheme is a pretty bad one, and is
only there because of history. Perhaps we should change it; maybe to the
Firefox version number or the Gecko one.

I don't think it matters a lot, honestly. I really would rather we
ship. libspidermonkey does make more sense to me though if someone
cares to rework the tree though, so we're *very* clearly distinguished
from --enable-shared-js from mozilla-central.

So combining, you're proposing libspidermonkey-4.so ?

We probably don't care, but you can make the pkg-config file
relative/relocatable by using the ${pcfiledir} expansion: see
https://github.com/Flusspferd/flusspferd/blob/master/libflusspferd/flusspferd.pc.in
(@ REL_PC_PATH_TO_ROOT@ is replaced in this case by CMake to be
something like '/../..' or similar)

As someone else mentioned, there is also the version numbers from the
moz central tree - for instance FF4 was 2.0:
http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-2.0/tags

But i would also rather we ship with what we have now than get bogged
down in deciding something else if there isn't a clear consensus.

Personally the 'JS version' has always seemed fairly arbitrary, and also
I don't imagine there will change very fast - so using FF or moz
versions would be far superior.

(Well-aimed kick to the shins)

I don't think anything has changed since comment 5. See the last three
paragraphs there.

 Since we're deliberately changing the name, maybe libspidermonkey is a better
 name? I agree that putting 185 in the name isn't good. When we change to
 1.9.0,
 would we have to change the SO name? That can't be right.

It isn't ideal, but it reflects reality. I would be thrilled to ship a
SM with no stupid version number in its name. We should totally do that,
as soon as have a sane upgrade story. First things first.

Fixing SM versioning was a non-goal for this release. Help us get it
right in the next one.

[Bug 744019] [NEW] mountall errors on boot

2011-03-27 Thread Muhammad Shoaib
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cloud-init

My Setup
--
I am using the official Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meekat EBS AMIs
(ami-ccf405a5,ami-cef405a7) on
64bit t1.micro and
32bit m1.small
instances.

Both instances have: cloud-init v 0.5.15-0ubuntu3

Nothing additional besides the defaults set of tools available on these
AMIs was installed.

Problems
---
On every boot i get:
cloud-init start-local running: Mon, 28 Mar 2011 03:33:16 +. up 2.40 seconds
no instance data found in start-local
init: cloud-init-local main process (374) terminated with status 1

cloud-init start running: Mon, 28 Mar 2011 03:33:17 +. up 2.75 seconds
found data source: DataSourceEc2
mountall: Event failed

* Starting AppArmor profiles   [80G 2011-03-28 04:00:52,257 -
DataSourceEc2.py[WARNING]: unable to convert swap to a device
2011-03-28 04:00:52,268 - cc_mounts.py[WARNING]: 'mount -a' failed

Lastly even though the t1.micro instance type has only one drive attached to
it, e.g. /dev/sda1 the /. It appends /dev/sdb to be mounted over /mnt in
fstab as well as swap. According to Amazon's Instance Guide with t1.micro
instance there is neither swap nor /mnt drive.

How to reproduce the errors?
-
Use same AMIs and launch an instance, get system log from aws console of
/var/log.
