[Bug 764096] Re: DNS hostname lookups fail in chroot after natty upgrade
** Description changed: + SRU justification: the postfix package in natty runs in a chroot by + default, but does not know to copy nss modules from the multiarch + library paths to set up the chroot. As a result, various sorts of NSS + resolution, such as mapping port names to numbers or resolving the + hostnames of incoming connections, will fail. This will break postfix + in various common configurations. + + TEST CASE: + 1. install postfix and configure it to use a smart host, specifying only a hostname (no port) for the smart host. + 2. verify that there is no /var/spool/postfix/lib/ directory. + 3. send mail and verify that the mail delivery fails because postfix can't resolve 'smtp' to a port number. + 4. upgrade postfix to the SRU version + 5. verify that after upgrade, there is a /var/spool/postfix/lib/ directory + 6. send mail and verify that it now can be sent to the smarthost successfully. + + Risk of regression: if I've done something wrong and the tar command + fails under certain conditions, postfix will fail to start. + Binary package hint: postfix I haven't yet determined the cause of this, but after upgrading to natty from maverick, postfix smtpd DNS lookups always fail when running in chroot (which is the default). This can be seen by lines like "postfix/smtpd[12287]: connect from unknown" in mail.log, where unknown should be the hostname. After editing master.cf so that smtpd is not in a chroot, hostname lookups work normally, as can be seen in mail.log. There were no changes in my configuration other than upgrading from maverick to natty. Hostname lookups worked fine in chroot with maverick. Thanks for reporting this bug. This appears to be consistent with how vmbuilder was historically handled - i.e. you can't create a maverick vm using vmbuilder in lucid. You can check the setting with `ethtool -g eth0`. Expected behavior: on startup (actually on any ifup), /etc/network/if- up.d/ethtool should run, read /etc/network/interfaces and apply ethtool settings if they are there. Observed behavior: on this system, it's clear that /etc/network/if- up.d/ethtool is executed before /usr is mounted, therefore the setting does apply as the ethtool binary is on /usr. [Bug 777356] [NEW] [fixed upstream, regression] Postfix smtp does not skip unknown XFORWARD attributes, causing SMTP syntax errors
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: postfix I've been bitten by a Postfix SMTP/LMTP implementation defect that has been fixed in one of the upstream patch-level releases 2.7.X. Basically Postfix sends XFORWARD PORT=unknown ... to amavsid via LMTP. Amavisd later returns the same attribute to smtpd, which complains noisily in the log. @Serge, Sorry, but answer is no. I just learned how dh_make and dpkg-buildpackage works , picked up your's debian folder. I've installed via alienating 6 fedora's packages ( i.e. ignoring dependencies ) /usr/lib64/python2.7/dist-packages/SpiceClientGtk.so and VM's window got opened. Thanks for reporting this bug and coming up with a nice, small test case to reproduce it. I've confirmed that it's an issue for 8.04 LTS and 6.06 LTS and I've pulled a patch from upstream's subversion (http://svn.php.net/viewvc?view=revision&revision=267423) that fixes the test case locally (attached). I've uploaded a test package for 8.04 LTS based on this fix (and the one for bug 774452) to the security-proposed ppa at https://launchpad.net /~ubuntu-security-proposed/+archive/ppa/.
