[Bug 764096] Re: DNS hostname lookups fail in chroot after natty upgrade

2011-05-04 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

+ SRU justification: the postfix package in natty runs in a chroot by
+ default, but does not know to copy nss modules from the multiarch
+ library paths to set up the chroot. As a result, various sorts of NSS
+ resolution, such as mapping port names to numbers or resolving the
+ hostnames of incoming connections, will fail. This will break postfix
+ in various common configurations.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ 1. install postfix and configure it to use a smart host, specifying only a
hostname (no port) for the smart host.
+ 2. verify that there is no /var/spool/postfix/lib/ directory.
+ 3. send mail and verify that the mail delivery fails because postfix can't
resolve 'smtp' to a port number.
+ 4. upgrade postfix to the SRU version
+ 5. verify that after upgrade, there is a /var/spool/postfix/lib/
directory
+ 6. send mail and verify that it now can be sent to the smarthost successfully.
+
+ Risk of regression: if I've done something wrong and the tar command
+ fails under certain conditions, postfix will fail to start.
+
  Binary package hint: postfix

I haven't yet determined the cause of this, but after upgrading to natty
from maverick, postfix smtpd DNS lookups always fail when running in
chroot (which is the default). This can be seen by lines like
"postfix/smtpd[12287]: connect from unknown" in mail.log, where unknown
should be the hostname. After editing master.cf so that smtpd is not in
a chroot, hostname lookups work normally, as can be seen in mail.log.

There were no changes in my configuration other than upgrading from
maverick to natty. Hostname lookups worked fine in chroot with maverick.

Thanks again for your help. If dev-zero isn't interested, I'll go

[Bug 775993] Re: package apache2.2-common 2.2.17-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-05-04 Thread David Ficociello
So I looked over some history and I remember I had to edit this file in
order to fix this problem

 /var/lib/dpkg/info/apache2.2-common.postinst

Unfortunately I forget what I actually did as I believe this file has
been written over after the upgrade to 11.04.

I'm pretty sure it had to do with this section:

# Note, this line catches new installs as well as upgrades
if dpkg --compare-versions "$2" lt 2.2.15-1~0; then
a2enmod -q reqtimeout
fi

But again I forget what exactly I did. Hopefully someone more
knowledgeable can chime in and add the part that I'm missing.

Good luck

[Bug 777331] Re: ubuntu-vm-builder crashed with VMBuilderUserError in preflight_check()

2011-05-04 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

This appears to be consistent with how vmbuilder was historically
handled - i.e. you can't create a maverick vm using vmbuilder in lucid.

There may be a good reason for it, but I don't know what it is, in
particular since this limitation does not seem to hold for debootstrap.

Marking this Triaged (as the fix should not be complicated) and Medium
priority. The workaround is to use vmbuilder on a natty host.

** Description changed:

  ethtool:
- Installed: 6+20091202-1
- Candidate: 6+20091202-1

System has ethtool setting in /etc/network/interfaces, in this case:
  HARDWARE_DMA_RING_ rx 512

The default setting is 256. You can check the setting with `ethtool -g
  eth0`.

Expected behavior: on startup (actually on any ifup), /etc/network/if-
up.d/ethtool should run, read /etc/network/interfaces and apply ethtool
  settings if they are there.

Observed behavior: on this system, it's clear that /etc/network/if-

[Bug 777356] [NEW] [fixed upstream, regression] Postfix smtp does not skip unknown XFORWARD attributes, causing SMTP syntax errors

2011-05-04 Thread Matthias Andree
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

I've been bitten by a Postfix SMTP/LMTP implementation defect that has
been fixed in one of the upstream patch-level releases 2.7.X.

Basically Postfix sends XFORWARD PORT=unknown ... to amavsid via LMTP.
Amavisd later returns the same attribute to smtpd, which complains
noisily in the log.

Please upgrade the Postfix package to 2.7.3 to collect all bug fixes.
If that runs counter to your policy and you rather want each bug
reported separately to justify wasting developer time, you can extract
the fix from postfix-2.7-patch01.gz, available from all Postfix download
mirrors, for instance, http://www.artfiles.org/postfix.org/postfix-
release/official/postfix-2.7-patch01.gz

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

vmbuilder must be run as root. You ran it as non-root user, which was
the reason for the error. You will also need to use ubuntu' in place of
natty for the second argument, and specify natty for the suite instead.
Something like the following should work:

sudo vmbuilder kvm ubuntu --suite=natty -addpkg=openssh-server
--addpkg=nano

[Bug 723871] Re: qemu-kvm-0.14.0 Aborts with -vga qxl

2011-05-04 Thread Boris Derzhavets
@Serge,
Sorry, but answer is no. I just learned how dh_make and dpkg-buildpackage
works , picked up your's debian folder.
Updated debian/patches/series and changelog . built new debian package ( based
on new qemu-kvm-spice-0.14.0+noroms_0ubuntu4qxl3.orig.tar.gz) due to three
recent commits to upstream branch spice.v35 were done
by Gerd Hoffmann and seemed to solve the issue.
My major concern is port to Ubuntu spice-gtk 0.6 ( with python bindings) . It
requires GLIBC 2.14 (gtk2-devel >= 2.14).
I've installed via alienating 6 fedora's packages ( i.e. ignoring dependencies
) /usr/lib64/python2.7/dist-packages/SpiceClientGtk.so and VM's window got
opened. Fixing complains one by one i got stuck when libc.so.6 was reported too
old ( GLIBC 2.13) . You are going to switch to 2.14 only on 11.10 as far as i
know. So , i should wait for alpha.

[Bug 777261] [NEW] Sync librdmacm 1.0.14.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-05-04 Thread Roland Dreier
Public bug reported:

Please sync librdmacm 1.0.14.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

The change in 1.0.10-1ubuntu1 vs. Debian is to add a patch to link
with libpthread to fix a FTBFS. The current 1.0.14.1-1 Debian package
also has a patch (slightly different but essentially equivalent)
that does the same thing, so there is no need for the Ubuntu patch.

Changelog entries since current oneiric version 1.0.10-1ubuntu1:

librdmacm (1.0.14.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- Fix problem with some versions of cxgb3 driver
  * Update to Standards-Version: 3.9.2 (no changes needed).
  * Set DM-Upload-Allowed to yes.
  * Still linking directly with libpthread. (Closes: #618071)

 -- Roland Dreier Wed, 20 Apr 2011 10:27:55
-0700

librdmacm (1.0.14-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * Switch to dpkg-source 3.0 (quilt) format.
  * Update to Standards-Version: 3.9.1 (no changes needed).
  * New upstream release.
- Add IPv6 support
- Add new higher-level, simpler API
- Add new client/server examples
  * Link directly with libpthread. (Closes: #555380)

[Bug 776642] Re: segfaults from 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.15

2011-05-04 Thread /usr/local/dick
I just went back the the previous version.

Since I remove packages from /var/cache/apt after update, I had to dig them up
online, from:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security/+archive/ppa/+buildjob/2165886

I downloaded these and installed them manually with dpkg:

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security/+archive/ppa/+buildjob/2165886/+files/php5-common_5.2.4-2ubuntu5.14_i386.deb
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security/+archive/ppa/+buildjob/2165886/+files/libapache2-mod-php5_5.2.4-2ubuntu5.14_i386.deb

At the moment apt has dependency problem because I did not download everything
(php modules etc).
But I just postpone updating until the definitive fix is out.

I know that this is not the best way, but I did not know what exactly
would happen if I install the proposed packages now, and then later want
to remove them again...

up.d/ethtool for logging information. It consists of echoing the time
and checking mount a few times during the script. Then the results.

[Bug 777193] [NEW] ethtool settings may not apply on boot with separate /usr

2011-05-04 Thread Mark Russell
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ethtool

Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04

ethtool:
  Installed: 6+20091202-1
  Candidate: 6+20091202-1

System has ethtool setting in /etc/network/interfaces, in this case:
HARDWARE_DMA_RING_ rx 512

The default setting is 256. You can check the setting with `ethtool -g
eth0`.

Expected behavior: on startup (actually on any ifup), /etc/network/if-
up.d/ethtool should run, read /etc/network/interfaces and apply ethtool
settings if they are there.

Observed behavior: on this system, it's clear that /etc/network/if-
up.d/ethtool is executed before /usr is mounted, therefore the setting
does apply as the ethtool binary is on /usr. The setting applies fine
if you do an ifdown and ipup manually after startup.

I will attach logs showing what's happening.

** Affects: ethtool (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Thanks for this work. Would you be interested in pursuing the process
to push these packages (celt051, the spice packages, and qemu-kvm-spice
based on your new package) into the Ubuntu archive? The process is
described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages.

[Bug 777103] Re: Merge groovy (1.7.10-1) from debian unstable

2011-05-04 Thread James Page
As this is one of a number of packages that breaks with ant 1.8.1 (and
the issue should be resolved with 1.8.2) I'll look at an ant upgrade
first then this bug can revert to a re-sync with debian.

[Bug 776936] Re: Running KVM guest causes kernel panic on host

2011-05-04 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for submitting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

In order to give us some more info on your system, could you please run
'apport-collect 776936'?

I wonder whether disable KSM and memballoon might help. Could you
disable memballoon by doing

   virsh edit deluge

and deleting the lines:

Then disable KSM by editing /etc/default/qemu-kvm and changing

  KSM_ENABLED=1
to
  KSM_ENABLED=0

then restarting qemu-kvm:

  restart qemu-kvm

Then see if the problem still reproduces.

Holding off on this merge until I understand in more detail why we need
to maintain the delta; unstable now has the same version of ant as
Ubuntu so should be seeing the same issue but it not at this point in

OK - so ant 1.8.1 which drives the demand for the Ubuntu delta only hit
debian unstable on the 01/05/2011 which is after the last update to

We installed the php5 from the PPA above on a test server, and I can

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Hi guys,

I am very happy to confirm that this worked great.

First it was gave me an indication that the remote server was not
responding (as per

correclt diagnosed a mismatched server identity.

Thanks for getting this fix in.

[Bug 774452] Re: php-pear: pecl install reports Call to undefined method PEAR::raiseErro()

2011-05-04 Thread annunaki2k2
I have a /tmp that will be emptied on reboot. I don't know about anyone else,
but I thought the cache should be a little more persistent. I personally have
change the location:
mkdir /var/cache/pear
pear config-set cache_dir /var/cache/pear

I suggest that's a little more appropriate and should be the default at
installation time.

Comments anyone?

[Bug 774452] Re: php-pear: pecl install reports Call to undefined method PEAR::raiseErro()

2011-05-04 Thread Ebben Feagan
In my testing all that needs to be done is:
* add the letter "r" onto line 165 in REST.php
* create /tmp/pear/cache
I have tested installing several packages after doing these steps and it works.
Release: Natty Narwhal

[Bug 776642] Re: segfaults from 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.15

2011-05-04 Thread /usr/local/dick
Hi

I just ran into this bug. In hindsight a serious issue that started 3 days ago
with one of our web apps seems to also be caused by this.
Just tested Steve's patched packages (5.2.4-2ubuntu5.17~lp776642) on our dev
server and I can confirm they fix the problems for us.
Eagerly awaiting official updates

Thanks!!

[Bug 776642] Re: segfaults from 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.15

2011-05-04 Thread Steve Beattie
Thanks for reporting this bug and coming up with a nice, small test case
to reproduce it. I've confirmed that it's an issue for 8.04 LTS and 6.06
LTS and I've pulled a patch from upstream's subversion
(http://svn.php.net/viewvc?view=revision&revision=267423) that fixes the
test case locally (attached).

I've uploaded a test package for 8.04 LTS based on this fix (and the one
for bug 774452) to the security-proposed ppa at https://launchpad.net
/~ubuntu-security-proposed/+archive/ppa/. I'd appreciate it someone
could confirm that the package fixes it for the more complex situation
code that triggered it initially.

Thanks for your patience and my apologies for introducing this
regression.

[Bug 774452] Re: php-pear: pecl install reports Call to undefined method PEAR::raiseErro()

2011-05-04 Thread Steve Beattie
ndefontenay: what release are you seeing this in? I can't reproduce the
lstat() warnings; however, the Fatal Error due to the PEAR::raiseErro()
typo unfortunately affects all releases.

I'm currently testing the fix for this, and will hopefully be able to
release it soon.

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience.
