Re: [Bug 736757] Re: [SRU] PANIC (pid 18442): internal error in winbindd
To all who would like to see this released into lucid-updates, we need to have some verification of bug #558793 as well, since both of them are included in the package currently in -proposed. We just migrated our AD Servers to 2008 this weekend, and had the problems described in #558793 (according to my colleagues who did the migration). Also, one Linux server that was still running the release version of 10.04.02 had intermittent problems authenticating users (but no winbind crashes). @Clint, yes, I know about the problem, if the system-clock is too way off. But that was not the case on my machine - at most a minute or so. And no, while installing and doing the first boots of the new 11.4, there were no connection problems. And yes, unless somebody rewrote the code for the NTP-daemon, which have worked well for so many years, its the setup-interface, that needs a little rework (amongst other modules ?) BTW, what really irks me is, that when I run Windows 7 (have multi-boot with Grub), which I do every fortnight to keep up with the security- and important updates - takes 2 - 5 hours every time - the clock is spot on, right from the GUI shows up (!) regards gerti -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781088 Title: Time is not syncronized with NTP-server -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 785668] Re: bonding inside a bridge does not update ARP correctly when bridged net accessed from within a VM
Following your suggestions, I modified my /etc/network/interfaces added the STP options to my test environment. Following that, I am now able to ping to the remote system using the following bonding modes : * 802.3ad (4) * tlb (5) * alb (6) For unknown reasons, I'm still unable to use balance-rr unlike your setup. But that might not be much of an issue as those modes listed above might be sufficient. I must go check that. And now, the two VMs are able to ping each other. One thing regarding your listed /etc/network/interfaces : I think that there is a typo as 'bond_mode active-rr' is not a support bonding mode. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/785668 Title: bonding inside a bridge does not update ARP correctly when bridged net accessed from within a VM -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 350936] Re: Should shut down domains on system shutdown
This is really a show-stopper and spoils the otherwise solid solution to use Ubuntu and KVM for virtualization. Why did nobody propose yet to shut down the VMs by the qemu-kvm script? I think stop qemu-kvm should try to shutdown all running kvms and kill them after a timeout, independently of libvirt. This would also work for instance, if libvirtd has been stopped before for other reasons and then the system is rebooted. With the monitor (which is accessible after libvirtd has been stopped) you can send a system_powerdown command. At the moment stop qemu-kvm just removes the kvm kernel modules. Maybe this is the explanation, why the kvm processes get killed? (Well, normally not, the modprobe -r should not succeed, as long as the module is in use. I cannot try it at the moment.) [Bug 787061] Re: PHP5 fails to install lucid
Hi Ian, thanks for taking the time to file a bug report! There is no dependency issue above. The post-installation script failed, as indicated here: Setting up libapache2-mod-php5 (5.3.2-1ubuntu4.9) ... dpkg: error processing libapache2-mod-php5 (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 20 So dpkg will not configure the rest of the dependent packages until libapache2-mod-php5 is configured. The post-installation script, if you haven't removed the package from your system, should be at /var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.postinst It most likely had some issue while configuring the module. Error 20 is generally Not a directory, so probably tried to do an 'rmdir' or 'chdir' on a directory that isn't on your system even though it should be. That very well could be a bug if its a directory the script should not expect to automatically be there. You can help us figure out if its a bug, or if your system has problems causing the issue, by running it with sudo sh -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/libapache2-mod-php5.postinst configure 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.9 And pasting the output here. Marking Incomplete pending response from Ian. ** Changed in: php5 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787061 Title: PHP5 fails to install lucid -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 786941] Re: Cannot boot from non-existent NIC
** Description changed: Binary package hint: qemu-kvm The version of qemu-kvm in lucid can't boot from a network card defined by -device-parameters. Its probably the same bug as described in: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=577851 + + SRU Justification: + 1. Impact: users cannot boot from network card which is defined with -device parameters + 2. How bug was addressed: a small patchset from upstream was cherrypicked + 3. Minimal patch: see attached debdiff + 4. TEST CASE: 'qemu-system-x86_64 -device rtl8139,vlan=0,id=net0,mac=52:54:00:82:41:fd,bus=pci.0,addr=0x4 -net user,vlan=0,name=hostnet0 -boot n -vnc :1' + 5. Regression potential: this patch tweaks a fragile blob of boot parameters code which we had already previously twiddled to make -boot once work. If there are regressions, they will likely emerge in the form of different behavior with 'boot' flags. However the patches are small and simple enough that regressions appear unlikely. ** Attachment added: proposed fix for lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/+bug/786941/+attachment/2139902/+files/debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/786941 Title: Cannot boot from non-existent NIC -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)
So I've done some analysis, and I believe the root of the problem is that dbus is stopped too early. network-manager stops whenever dbus stops, because it is needed. We currently stop dbus on runlevel [06] .. that is too early, because it is needed until after umountnfs runs as part of the shutdown. So the solution will be in two parts: 1. we must change netbase so that the 'networking stop' action emits a hook event, which I'll call deconfiguring-networking, just before it deconfigures the network. 2. dbus will be changed to 'stop on deconfiguring-networking', and therefore also need a versioned dependency on the new version of netbase (otherwise it would not stop). I am preparing uploads to oneiric that implement these two fixes. ** Also affects: dbus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: dbus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: dbus (Ubuntu) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: dbus (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Clint Byrum (clint-fewbar) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211631 Title: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown) -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Re: [Bug 781088] Re: Time is not syncronized with NTP-server
Excerpts from gerti's message of Mon May 23 13:22:53 UTC 2011: @Clint, yes, I know about the problem, if the system-clock is too way off. But that was not the case on my machine - at most a minute or so. And no, while installing and doing the first boots of the new 11.4, there were no connection problems. And yes, unless somebody rewrote the code for the NTP-daemon, which have worked well for so many years, its the setup-interface, that needs a little rework (amongst other modules ?) BTW, what really irks me is, that when I run Windows 7 (have multi-boot with Grub), which I do every fortnight to keep up with the security- and important updates - takes 2 - 5 hours every time - the clock is spot on, right from the GUI shows up (!) I understand the frustration gerti, and I'm sorry that you're having problems. I still don't understand the steps to take to not get the right time. I have a fresh VM install of 11.04 that was already configured to query NTP from the network, and it did so flawlessly without changing anything. It also works fine if I just install ntp on a server, so I really don't think there's a problem with the ntp package, but maybe I have missed a step or detail that causes you issues? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781088 Title: Time is not syncronized with NTP-server -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)
On a functional level perhaps it is worth considering whether Network Manager, on stopping, should simply leave the interfaces as currently configured instead of taking them down. I can make the argument that Network Manager is a tool to make it easy for the user to control network interfaces, but Network Manager is not the owner of those interfaces, the system and user are.
