People should be aware that cache=writeback should only be used if you do not care about the very real possibility of guest disk corruption should the guest or host fail unexpectedly. I do not know what timeing source they use though. It sounds like this bug should be deemed low priority, especially since there is a good workaround. What I usually do is revert by using 'dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-image-YYY*' where linux-image-YYY is the version you are using right now. I finally found a driver for win7 64bit which is working with the ac97 sound card: http://www.64bitdrivers.com/driver.php?id=1375 If you download the driver sk35558.exe and edit the inf file for the PCI IDs used by kvm it will install with a warning about unsigned code. I can't reproduce this on my natty host which also has cups and the system-config-printer-gnome running. I don't have high hopes that they are in fact the culprit, but still it seems worth checking. Could you try removing system-config-printer-* packages and stop cups, sudo stop cups sudo apt-get remove system-config-printer-gnome system \ system-config-printer-common \ system-config-printer-udev Log out and back in, and see if after that kvm is able to use the printer. So turns out the pushd popd was to make novarc work on a mac/bsd. I'm running a setup with multiple Apache instances (see
/usr/share/doc/apache2/README.multiple-instances). The extra instances
aren't started on boot because the Apache startup script
/etc/init.d/apache2 contains the following test in line 20:
elif [ ${0##*/apache2-} != $0 ]
But the script name is something like /etc/rc2.d/S01apache2-xxx (note
the S01 before apache2-xxx).

I'm also having trouble upgrading samba. I'm getting the following output: Setting up samba (2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.2) ... start: Job failed to start invoke-rc.d: initscript nmbd, action start failed. dpkg: error processing samba (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: samba E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) The funny thing is that samba is currently working! This isn't actually a multiarch problem. Following the directions from
the referenced site results in installation of an i386 'libaio' package
which doesn't even match the official {libaio1,libaio-dev} packages in
the Ubuntu archive, let alone supporting multiarch.
So this is an ordinary package conflict between an official package and
an unsupported unofficial one. I don't think there's any bug here.
If this is a library that's important to have cross-installable as a
32-bit lib on a 64-bit system, we can certainly make *converting* it to
multiarch a priority; but it's not a bug per se that it isn't yet
converted.
