[Blueprint server-o-ensemble] Get Ensemble into Ubuntu

2011-06-12 Thread Clint Byrum
Blueprint changed by Clint Byrum:

Whiteboard changed:
+ Status: ensemble and txzookeeper are in Oneiric NEW queue. txaws --
+ waiting for response from developers on a release, or will package a bzr
+ snapshot.
+
  Work Items:
  [clint-fewbar] Prepare txzookeeper packaging for upload to Ubuntu: DONE
  [clint-fewbar] Get txzookeeper sponsored into Debian: INPROGRESS
  [clint-fewbar] Upload latest zookeeper to Ubuntu: INPROGRESS
  [clint-fewbar] Submit debdiff of latest zookeeper to Debian: TODO
- [txaws-admins] release txaws with fixes needed by ensemble: TODO
- [clint-fewbar] Prepare ensemble package for upload to Ubuntu: INPROGRESS
+ [clint-fewbar] package snapshot or release txaws with fixes needed by
ensemble: BLOCKED
+ [clint-fewbar] Prepare ensemble package for upload to Ubuntu: DONE
  [niemeyer] Ensemble Daily PPA: DONE

  == The road to main for ensemble ==

  1. When do we want that to happen?

  - 11.10 Ensemble in Universe, problem, ensemble is rapidly developing
  how to deal with updates.

  Ensemble can't be "frozen" past a stable release. We need to deploy new
  features for the project to be successful.

  Two possible approaches:

  - Use a PPA (simpler, works well)
  - Do SRUs every month or so (much more heavy weight, apparently unnecessary)

  We'll probably be going with the second option.

  2. What do we need to get done for this to happen?

  Needed dependencies:

  - txzookeeper (not packaged yet)
  - txaws (must be upgraded)
  - zookeeper (needs patches which were already pushed upstream)

  3. Strategies for upgrading?

  4. Etc.

  Sample interaction with Ensemble:

  $ ensemble bootstrap
  # Creates some files in ~/.ensemble/
  $ ensemble bootstrap
  # Creates the first instance of Ensemble on EC2
  $ ensemble deploy wordpress
  $ ensemble deploy mysql
  $ ensemble add-relation wordpress mysql

  This requires AWS credentials in the environment.

  The mysql instance can be reused across services.

  Tasks
  ---

   - [niemeyer] Ensemble Daily PPA.

  Questions

   - Zookeeper Packages
   - python zookeeper
   - txaws package updates
   - ensemble package
   - principia package?

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2011-06-12 Thread Mike Perrin
I have two machines running 11.04 with a wireless connection. I was able
to get a clean shutdown on both by changing the link to
/etc/init.d/umountnfs.sh in /etc/rc0.d and /etc/rc6.d from
S31umountnfs.sh to K15umountnfs.sh. This is a workaround, not a fix, as
it simply starts the cifs/nfs file unmounting script earlier in the
shutdown process.

[Bug 795427] Re: Upgrade Libvirt up to 0.9.1 generates new bug with Virt-Manager

2011-06-12 Thread Marc Deslauriers
When you create the second VM (Natty) while reusing the same disk as the
old F15 installation, what are the settings in the "Boot Option" screen
set to?

Also, the patches Fedora carry have nothing to do with your issue.

The Upstart file I posted on #153 +autofs5 installed(very important)
solves it for me on 10.10. over wifi. Autofs has to be installed, or the
bug will stay. Today i found this is the working combo for me. You might
want to try this with Natty, i was planning in the next few days, too
tired today.

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2011-06-12 Thread Scaine
Your options are :

1. Use a wired connection
2. Avoid Samba/CIFS shares and configure your server for NFS instead
3. Use AutoFS to create your network shares.

In case 3, AutoFS replaces the need to configure anything in /etc/fstab.
Seems to work well enough with most connections, although another bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/autofs/+bug/393012/comments/34) will give
you some issues when you first set it up.

Samba shares and Ubuntu, at least over WIFI, don't make for a very happy
experience, I'm afraid.

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2011-06-12 Thread whochismo
I have had this problem for a long time, in different ubuntu versions,
but this is the first time (Ubuntu 11.04) that I am unable to find a
workaround.

Before, I used to create a script that would umount the network drives
and place it at /etc/network/if-down.d. It used to work for Ubuntu
10.10, but now it doesn't anymore.

I don't think it's going to be solved anytime soon, so, any
solution/workaround?
